  1. I mean, misdemeanor prosecutors in shitty Texas counties make about 90k, plus they match 7% for retirement at a factor of 2.2x. It’s not a ton, but it’s not 1/4 of what an AVERAGE criminal defense attorney pulls. Also, some of the very best skilled trial attorneys I’ve ever seen work for the state.
  2. Wait. The Onstar data was not know about by the defense until after the trial started? Regarding the video on Paul’s phone, is it the same one referenced in the Netflix series, or a different one? The Netflix doc mentioned a video on Paul’s phone that had Alex’s voice on it.
  3. Zero sugar Dr. Pepper used to be Pepsi Max? The fuck? Pepsi Max was rebranded as Pepsi Zero Sugar, my dude.
  4. This. Also, an option that they don’t even want to consider is: Take pen. Record kid’s identifying/contact/residence info. If it comes back as D9, go get your warrant and proceed. There’s no reason to just pop the felony booking with no lab test.
  5. Also, doesn’t voting take place at elementary/middle/high schools? This bill doesn’t address those children. Hmmmm…
  6. About tree fiddy.
  7. Correct. I would also point out that the Texas state statutes relevant to this issue MAY not be affected for several reasons. The UCW statute is most analogous, EXCEPT the underlying PO in Texas requires a finding that family violence has actually occurred (FV includes threats of violence). That requirement is not in the federal statute. This distinction might make a difference since a lot of this opinion focuses on “law abiding citizen”, which a person subject to a Texas PO is arguably not. Also, there is a Texas criminal law for “violation of a protective order”. Since virtually all Texas protective orders include a prohibition against firearm possession, someone could be prosecuted under that statute.
  8. Why would this be in a thread about SCOTUS decisions, since this is not one?
  9. Cool. Cite examples of statements made that rise to the standard of defamation/libel.
  10. A good friend of mine has a son on the spectrum. She is a VETERAN prosecutor. Her and her son travel are traveling all over the state giving training to LEO’s on how to recognize/deal with individuals with ASD. Their talks are enlightening and she has gotten feedback already from officers who have applied the content to encounters that otherwise might have ended poorly. When he gets his drivers license, please make sure that he gets the special designation indication on the license itself. Also, if you want, send me a PM, let me know what county they are in and I’ll see if there’s any outreach/training for LEO’s happening yet there. I can also put you in touch with my friend, because she has great info for parents/families of ASD people specifically related to encounters with law enforcement.
  11. Sex trafficking, by definition, merely means that a person compels another into sex work by force, threat, coercion, etc. the import/export/transport isn’t necessary. I never knew that until I had to do some training when we were considering fostering kids. I only point it out because that’s why some of the numbers seem crazy high when stats are published.
  12. For the record, since ROFLBOX brought it up, he did a total re-roof for me last year and we had no issues and a bit of free labor/materials thrown in for some stuff that needed to be done but wasn’t really a part of the re-roof job.
  13. All I meant was that it seemed like you were really hung up on the fact that he has pled NG at this point, when in reality, it is the rule and not the exception. It does not mean that his team has anything resembling a plausible defense in mind at this point. I wasn’t literally commanding you to do anything. It’s a message board. We are assholes.
  14. The post you are replying to is speaking to mental competency, not an insanity defense, which are two totally separate different things with different meanings.
  15. Stop all of the speculation based on him pleading not guilty at this point. What do you expect them to do? Just say “awwww….looks like you got me! Send me to prison for life! No use in trying at all !” Even those who eventually plead guilty to some sort of deal often begin with a plea of not guilty.
  16. Correct. And there is zero chance that this will be deemed a “search” under the 4A, Any more than me standing in my yard looking at the house across the street.
  17. If you assess the patient to be without pulse or breath, you do not take steps to stabilize head/neck. That person is dead and first priority is that “part”. Edit to add: I’m not a doctor, but I did get certified recently.
  18. Not that money matters to us, but our next hire will not be coming here for $4M/year. That’s not this works at all.
  19. During a post-game interview earlier this season, X was discussing how many thousand balls he caught from a juggs machine every week. It just doesn’t seem to make a difference.
  20. This. If you re-watch some of those games, Colin was worth about 10 points added to Ehlinger’s completion percentage resulting from amazing efforts on throws that were not really that good at all.
  21. ROFLBOX has a friend that’s a kickass handyman, named Marshall. Marshall is also a Fucking legit dog whisperer. Amazing with training. if you are lurking this thread, I hope you have tried to get Marshall involved. He’s the perfect answer, IMO.
  22. Matt Pittman is wrong. I think saw that recipe and he mentioned Serious Eats. SE suggests baking powder, not cornstarch. FYI, I’ve been to mining with wings and I’ve landed on 6-7 minutes par boil, then skin side down for about 45 minutes at 225. Then I flip them, crank the heat up to 375, let them go 20-30, flip again to finish them. No overnight drying, baking powder or anything else. I don’t even dry them after boiling. The par boil idea came from madscientistbbq.
  23. I picked up a rack last weekend, not sure how to proceed. I have smoked pork belly "burnt ends" before, where I cubes, smoke, sauce and then caramelize. For this task, I referred to Leroy and Lewis' video (Bacon Ribs) where they smoke the rack, in-tact, pit temp 250, until the internal temp gets to around 150-160 degrees. They then cool them overnight, cut into separate ribs, season with rub, then back on the pit to finish. The coat them in maple syrup after cooking. The main difference is that they first cure them for a week, using the same method you would for making slab bacon. I was planning to not do that. Does anyone else have a different method that works well? Is the double smoke really necessary? Can I get comparable results by just resting them an hour or so before slicing them up and putting them back on the cooker?
