  1. That article is from 1974; a lot has changed since then. TCU opposed Tech joining the SWC in 1958 because they considered everything west of DFW their territory. And with no Dallas Cowboys until 1960, I think he's generally right that it was common for people in west Texas with no real ties to any colleges to be TCU fans.
  2. This. Say what you want about Sark's ability to close but after years of UT coaches (and months for the current staff) having to counter the SEC pitch, the move only affirms what the SEC coaches have been selling to our recruits. Until the timeline moves up from 2025, the announcement might actually make recruiting harder.
  3. In for $10. PayPal worked, CC didn't. Weird how one works for some but not others. Where it's coming from doesn't matter though - it's where it's going. Great work!
  4. I don't see it that way. The $9.95ers are merely a vehicle in the transaction. Someone already suggested it, but we (Surly) should be doing the same. Perhaps you meant bootlegging?
  5. Yes, Arkansas correctly saw that the SWC wasn't viable because of its small TV footprint and the strong presence of the NFL in Texas. UT saw it too, and UT officials even told Arkansas officials they needed to go first to provide cover for UT to make a move since politically UT couldn't be the school to blow up the conference. The SEC's courtship of UT has been going on for over 30 years.
  6. All anyone claiming Texas killed the SWC needs to know is Arkansas wanted Texas to join them in the move to the SEC in 1990, and so did the SEC. Anyone claiming Arkansas was trying to get away from evil UT doesn't know what they're talking about.
  7. Probably because they aggy'd up their initial meeting announcement/agenda by putting the wrong date on it. Agendas need to be posted 72 hours in advance, so this could just be the same meeting they intended to hold tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if there's an announcement that the meeting tomorrow has been "postponed".
  8. Yup - aggy was simply bait and the SEC just landed the whale it has been chasing since 1990.
  9. I thought is was one of those Fox Photo drive thru booths? Eh, I'm probably just mixing up Mike Adams with the Libyans in Back to the Future. No Satya.
  10. Because it's only income once you sell the options and can actually spend the money. Before then it's value could still go to zero. As discussed above, there are ways to take out loans using your options (or any investment) as collateral. But now we're getting back into a discussion about a wealth tax. The two concepts (income tax vs wealth tax) continue to get conflated in articles like the one linked in the OP. Stock options simply aren't income.
  11. Agree on most points but there should be more brackets, particularly at the top end; no need to limit to 5. It's absolutely aggravating that ~$500K is currently the top bracket, and that Biden's plan does nothing to change this. While $500K is a lot of money, many of these earners aren't "wealthy" in that they aren't sitting on a pile of savings. Many are first time college graduates who have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, small business owners, etc. Why not add more brackets to capture more from those making $1M, $5M, $10M, and so on. Corporate taxes are different (not sure if you were suggesting rates match personal income rates or simply saying to close the loopholes - I read it as corporate income tax rates should match personal income tax rates). Prior to Trump's plan, the US was taxing corporations at a much higher rate than most of our peers (35% vs ~22% average for EU countries). The reduction implemented by Trump was bigger than necessary and the pendulum swung too far, but its in the best interest of our country to keep this tax rate within striking distance of our peers to encourage companies to keep their corporate income tax dollars at home. I think matching corporate tax rates to personal income tax rates would result in more companies following Apple's example by stashing profits in places like Ireland and Jersey (the island, not the state). Agree capital gains should be treated as income. My guess is Biden only proposed increasing cap gains tax on those making over $1M, and didn't propose cap gains tax rates match income tax rates because that would be frowned upon by his biggest, wealthiest donors (same for most politicians on both sides of the aisle). I see no logical reason why ones cap gains tax rate wouldn't matching ones income tax bracket, as cap gains ARE income.
  12. Per your own link to the CDC, it looks like Alabama is actually the lowest at 26.5 per 100,000. Let's all do what they're doing! I kid, I kid. Just pointing out there are a lot of variables in play.
  13. I get that you'd prefer to be out of there sooner rather than later, but isn't this what we should all want from jurors? Deliberately evaluating all evidence seems like a good thing to me, especially if it leads to a just verdict.

    Longhorn Network

Is LHN in HD on Dish full-time now? Or do they just show the one football game a year in HD and the rest of the time it's in SD like it used to be? Their website indicates it's in HD full-time but my guess is they are lying. Also, I'm pretty sure AT&T/Directv has the worst website of any major company in the United States.
  15. On the news this morning they reported this is exactly what he did. Put on his hazards and drove for less than two minutes until he found a well lit area to pull over.
  16. This is a really shitty take. He's getting conflicting commands telling him to first put his hands outside of the car and to then get out of the car, all while the guy has two guns pointed at him for no reason. You're asking him to process conflicting commands and come up with a solution on how to accomplish both at the same time, while all he can probably think about is not getting shot. It's unrealistic to assume someone is going to be thinking clearly enough at that point to think about opening the car door from the outside, particularly since he was still abiding by the law by having his seatbelt on. Putting your hands back inside the car to open the door or undo your seatbelt at that point is a pretty good way to get shot by an overzealous cop. He was in a catch 22.
  17. Are we sure he was just recently suspended? With practices just now starting there was no reason for this to come out earlier. Perhaps he was already suspended when he got arrested, hence the fact that CSPD was willing to arrest him.
  18. Good concept, poor execution. With better writing and character development the plot could have been expanded into a good series. Surlywood types should make this happen.
  19. Right, but the morning lineup today features back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to back re-airs of this week's installment of "Game Plan with Vic Shaefer". They don't even need to bother the football coaches to produce content; simply having RTF students piece together highlights for each signee would make for better programming. Let's face it, ESPN has given up. Wish someone who knows how to tweet (which makes me ineligible) would ask Del Conte about this.
  20. Or so you want everyone to believe. My guess is you're the proud owner of a Chameleon XLE... https://streamable.com/m7omz
  21. I believe Onboard was referring to one of the 2012 Presidential debates, which would have taken place in 2011. ISIS didn't get much publicity and didn't issue its caliphate until 2014, at which time Obama referred to "ISIL" as a "JV team". I don't consider 2011 recent though so maybe he was referring to a different event. If this discussion is about Romney's comment about Russia during the debate, he was broadly mocked by the left and the media for his comment. Something Madeleine Albright personally and publicly apologized to him for years later.
  22. Regarding my politics, all you should infer is I think the violent protesters at the Capitol and in Portland are idiots and both should be prosecuted. I realize we probably don't see eye to eye on that, but do you really think there's no correlation between the inauguration yesterday and the democratic offices in Portland getting trashed after protests that same day? And you're calling me stupid? Nice! I think we're done here.
  23. You jumped to a lot of conclusions there. I didn't say anything about Trump. I simply said I didn't expect Democratic offices in Portland to get trashed the day of the inauguration, but that in hindsight I'm not really surprised. Did you predict the Democratic offices in Portland would get trashed yesterday? If so, please start a newsletter with your future predictions and I'll be your first subscriber. $9.95/month sound fair?
  24. NBC's article offers some more detail: Some members of the crowd met in southeast Portland before heading to the Democratic Party offices dressed in black and carrying banners reading, "We don't want Biden, we want revenge! For police murders, imperialist wars and fascist massacres," and "We are ungovernable," according to a photo published by The Oregonian. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/oregon-s-democratic-party-offices-vandalized-amid-post-inauguration-protests-n1255118 Not what I was expecting after the inauguration, but in hindsight not really surprising either. The circle of politics is real, and the extreme far left and the extreme far right have more in common than they realize or care to admit.
  25. The point is we offered to play them, but they said their schedule was full when it clearly wasn’t.
