  1. I imagine that there's plenty of post oak and pecan down. I don't like live oak, either.
  2. I've never been told that I was dropped on my head as a baby, I just always assumed it. I'd hate to think that I have no excuse for being like this.
  3. I bet that all of the barbecue joints will get great deals on wood for a while. The only bright spot I see so far.
  4. He must be taking notes from Paxton.
  5. Reading some of this thread made me think about a guy I used to work with. A little before Ike a crew from his co-op came out to trim trees in his neighborhood, and he refused to let them trim any of the trees on his property. He was bragging at work about how he ran them off. During Ike, the wind knocked down a couple of limbs from one of his trees onto the lines, knocking out power to the whole neighborhood. While the crew was repairing the lines, he was out there bitching at them for not maintaining the lines and the trees that he had told them not to touch. (Witnessed by a friend of mine who lived in that neighborhood.) The next day he was griping at work that the whole neighborhood was pissed at him, and he didn't know why. Maintaining utilities, water, sewer, gas, communications, or electric, is an expensive and time consuming operation. Everyone seems to think that you put the wire in the air or the pipe in the ground, and then never think about it again. It ain't that way. Maintenance is labor intensive, and labor is usually the largest expense in the budget. Rate payers don't want to pay for it, but will sure raise hell when there are problems. As in my illustration above, some actively interfere with maintenance activities. So, yeah, every utility can do better, and being without power in this kind of situation is frustrating, but try walking a mile in their shoes before getting judgmental, please. Now back to, "It's horrible mismanagement and those utilities guys are morons."
  6. I bet the laying on of hands in that church is off the chain.
  7. Looks like we know who lost the cock fight.
  8. Taco Tuesday is usually followed by High Flow Wednesday, so point taken.
  9. I'd have shot back, "Better than hair metal or techno." But there was a lot I liked in '88, too.
  10. It has been looked at, but most plants don't discharge large enough amounts to generate significant amounts of electricity. The demand for water growing like it is, soon many plants will be discharging less as effluent is drawn off for irrigation and other gray water uses, so future availability will be even less.
  11. I had an intern ask who the Beatles were once. Dammit.
  12. And that's when we need the lights. I mean, why even bother if it doesn't work when most needed? s/off
  13. I turned on the news, totally unaware of what had happened, just as they started reporting on it. Some folks in my neighborhood heard it, but I didn't. It upset me terribly that we lost another shuttle like that.
  14. I have trouble believing that those monkeys were taken against their will. You can't tell me that little Pai Mei looking motherfucker can't kick all kinds of ass.
  15. Just my opinion, but I think it's part of the anti-intellectualism amongst MAGAts. My father holds a PhD, and I have/had friends who had no issue with calling him Dr. Meister until they went Trumpy. Suddenly his doctorate was worthless to them, even though many of them were in his classes in college.
  16. This. I was thinking RPG, but we've seen Javelins used that way, too.
  17. I never was cool, so no such epiphany for me.
  18. If Trump wins, there won't be an election in 2028 or any time after that.
  19. I wonder who aggy got to replace Rusty Thompson? That was one ruthless son of a bitch when it came to fixing shit for aggy. If he was still alive, I doubt that this would even have made the papers.
  20. Probably not. You never want to give the enemy the initiative so that you have to react to him. You always want to dictate the where, when and how. Inducing offensives may give some tactical advantages in some areas, but it risks allowing Russia to take the initiative somewhere.
  21. I have worked with at least three people who wouldn't see the problem here, including one who did something very close to this. Never underestimate stupidity.
  22. Cue Pee Wee Herman: "I meant to do that."
  23. James Longstreet lives!
  24. I have no experience with foreign sewer systems, but I think that it does mean don't flush any paper at all. Think lowest common intelligence denominator: "He flushed that thin paper. Why can't I flush this thicker paper? It's all paper, right?" I've started seeing similar signs in public restrooms here in Texas. Basically, it's either allow people to flush whatever they want, whether it's TP, paper towels, wipes, or underwear, or just ban it all. TL,DR: Morons fuck up everything for the rest of us.
