  1. And she'll wonder why no one wants to be with her.
  2. They waited a fucking hour to go in after a punk kid and possibly save kid's lives. I formulated my disgust for these cowards immediately after learning that, and nothing that I have seen since has changed my opinion one way or another. I have dealt with small town cops most of my life. I am well aware of their general strengths and weaknesses, including training. They present themselves as heroes, and expect everyone to recognize them as such. These wanted to be heroes, until it was time to do hero shit. When they had the opportunity, the didn't just miss the moment, they refused to rise to it. I have no slack to cut for them.
  3. If the Russkies or their proxies execute American POWs, we should execute a similar number of their spies.
  4. This isn't Hue City or Fallujah, with an opposition that is trained, motivated, and fully prepared. It's a slew of trained police officers, many specifically trained in active shooter situations within the last six months, versus one fucked up kid. I know that my training as a Marine is different from what most of those cops have, but I would be willing to bet that at least one of the cops is a veteran, and trained to use their initiative in the absence of leadership. There is no excuse for any of their behavior. None. Have the identities of all of the cops present been released? The public has a need to know who cannot be trusted.
  5. I saw a mountain lion in Shelby County in 1982. I had seen a couple of possible tracks on our family farm, but they weren't definitive. I was walking down a dirt county road on a full moon night and saw him in the moonlight in a clearing about 30 yards away. We looked at each other then mutually parted ways. It was unbelievably cool, and somewhat frightening. If he had wanted me for dinner, there wasn't a lot I could have done about it.
  6. Paxlovid gives a strange, nasty, metallic taste to the mouth. It makes mint toothpaste and mouthwash taste horrible. Small price to pay, though.
  7. Yesterday afternoon I developed some of the worst chills I've ever had, along with a 100.3 fever. I bundled up and tried to sweat it out, but it didn't go away until we had to go pick up a grocery order at HEB. (Thank you for the contactless curbside, HEB.) I stepped out into the 105 degree heat and felt a world better instantly. So this weather has some use. After we got home I fell asleep in my recliner and woke up an hour later thinking it was all over, I felt so good. Wrong! All day I've had an incessant headache, and the cough has started. My sides and back are sore as hell, but livable. We got Paxlovid this afternoon and started it tonight. Here's hoping it helps.
  8. Well, isn't that just a gotdammed shame? Fuck Russia.
  9. I didn't really understand how stupid the average person is until I worked the front at McDonald's as a teen. "I want a Whopper, onion rings, and a Pepsi." Then they get pissed at you when you tell them "This is McDonald's. Burger King is next door." Or "My Big Mac was 20 cents less two months ago!" No, bitch, it's been this price for at least a year. And you tried that shit with me yesterday. Those are on top of the ones who wait until you ask them what they want to start making their decision, can't find their wallet, want to check the math on their order, etc. ad nauseam.
  10. I didn't get measurable rain, but did get a light sprinkling. We just got back home from picking up prescriptions, and a large, cold drop hit dead in the center of my head, followed by a six-inch sprinkle (drops six inches apart). I guess that I should be frustrated that it wasn't more, but I have decided to be grateful for any good that comes my way, however little. We're one day closer to the next frog strangling, fence lifting, bar ditch filling rain.
  11. If they had any honor they would have each eaten a bullet that day. Their tattoos all say "Dishonor Before Death Or Injury".
  12. I get your impatience, but remember that the Russians are playing to win, too. Maybe badly, but that is still their intention and goal. The Russians are trying to make Ukrainian logistics as difficult for them as the Ukrainians with their HIMARS are for the Russians. Up until now they (the Russkies) have had the weight of fire and longer range to get that done. That seems to be changing, but will still take time and effort to accomplish. In war nothing happens in a safe and predictable manner.
  13. Cross post from the renewables thread: It's time for Sailors and Marines to break taboo and start whistling like crazy. Come on , wind, blow!

  15. My doctor asked if I knew who might have exposed me, and I told him that in the last three weeks we've had two of my coworkers come in, sit in meetings (spaced, but still), get around other coworkers unmasked, then leave an hour or two after starting the work day because they didn't feel good. Both had fevers off and on the previous days, but still had to come in long enough to spread the virus before hauling ass. I didn't have close direct contact with them, but I did have some contact with some who had worked close to them and didn't let me know. As I'm sure you have noted since February 2020, we are surrounded by morons, idiots, and defectives.
  16. A wise move, in my opinion. And I am highly envious of your visit to Santa Fe.
  17. Well, add me to the list of the polluted. Woke up this morning with congestion, headache, scratchy throat, but no fever. Tested anyway and got a weak but clear positive on the home test. Work protocol for both my wife and me demands PCR test, so we got to our PCP and got that started. His orders for us both are to isolate for five days, then wear a mask when around anyone for five more days. He also prescribed Paxlovid for us both. I get to live my hermit dream, but with my wife here with me. And, yes, I feel like run over dog shit, but I've had worse.
  18. We need a mixed emotions emoji. That's both messed up and awesome at the same time.
  19. I might give that a try, but I'm on my own well. Good news: no one else imposing water restrictions on me. Bad news: run the well dry and kiss flushing the toilet and taking showers goodbye. Most likely the trees are on their own.
  20. I'm going to lose some 75 to 200 year old oaks on my place because of this drought. I lost 4 or 5 in 2011-12, 3 more after last year's freeze, and have 6 or 7 that don't look good right now. I still have others that are doing ok, but who knows, if this keeps up. I'm only watering small fruit and nut trees that I am establishing, and where my on-site sewer system sprays the gray water, but where the gray water is being sprayed doesn't look any better than the rest of the yard. Some asshole flicking a cigarette butt onto my yard would be very bad news.
  21. I would give a nickle to read what Doomlet would come up with, especially any that differed from his preferred scatological medium.
  22. Y'all, I know that your lawns and such are important to you, but please conserve water, wherever you live. At my place of employment our water production department is running full capacity, 24/7. If one piece of their equipment fails, the city will have to impose water restrictions, which our council views as the worst possible thing that can happen ever. Like a Russian cruise missile strike catastrophe. Have a heart and help out your water department, please.
  23. This is why I have three tape measures, two claw hammers, and two pipe wrenches. I also buy two extra 1/2 inch and two extra 10 mm sockets and box wrenches when I replace my last one. Those just disappear, even when I haven't used one in a while. I'm convinced that the aliens who visit Earth are just coming to steal my tools. I used to think it was my kids, but they have both been out on their own for ten years and it still happens, so it's either aliens or that damned Sasquatch.
