  1. I just made a political donation for the first time in my life. I'm in, Coach!
  2. Y'all can have Damn Patrick in a straight up trade. Hell, I'll through in $100. Whadda you say?
  3. They have the dickhead part right, I'll give them that.
  4. That's where relative strengths enters the picture. Both sides here are worn down, but Russia has more meat to use for defense, and it is much easier to defend than attack. Ukraine may have some fresh troops with fresh equipment hidden away for a surprise attack, but that seems unlikely with the prevalence of drones on the battlefield. I want Ukraine to recreate the Kharkiv breakout and run Russia smooth out of their country, but that seems like wishful thinking right now.
  5. I'd go back to the mid 80s and spend a day with my mom before her cancer diagnosis, just hanging out. And I'd tell my dad that "one of these days" never comes, so he'd better take her to the mountains and those other trips they had planned right damn then.
  6. Without knowing relative strengths, Russian improvements to their poaitions, and commanders' intentions on both sides, it's hard to say. It looks like a good opportunity to attack at the shoulders of the salient to try to envelope the Russian troops in the salient, but that doesn't always work out, as the Germans found out just a few miles from there in 1943.
  7. Watching that I couldn't help but remember how many sorties and lost planes it took to drop a bridge like that in Vietnam. Now it's lob a few glide bombs at it and it's gone. Amazing change.
  8. Marine Reserve, before I was married. I never deployed. When I tried to reenlist for Desert Storm, they politely told me that they didn't need washed up has beens with dad bods.
  9. I thought that the Army was the First Infantry Division and a million replacements. My son considered the Marine Corps coming out of high school. When the recruiter asked why he decided not to enlist, my son answered that he could get the same or better computer training as a civilian without "the needs of the Corps" sending him to be shot at in Iraq or Afghanistan. I somehow raised a kid smarter than me. I can't tell you how that happened.
  10. I've got some fireworks saved back for that joyful occasion. I don't care if there's a burn ban on, I'm fixing a couple of nice ribeyes with baked potatoes, mushrooms, and asparagus, getting a bottle of the best champagne my poor ass can afford, feasting, then setting the fireworks off. If any of my neighbors don't like it, they can go shit in a hat.
  11. That is correct. An E-4 is a corporal, whether they are infantry, admin., cooks, or aircraft technicians. It's part of the Corps' "Every Marine is a rifleman." ethos. The ranks for E-8 and above split for command (First Sergeant, Sergeant Major) and technical (Master Sergeant, Master Gunnery Sergeant).
  12. Does anyone have a recipe for jerk chicken tikka marsala hot dish? Let's cover all the bases here.
  13. Mocking them makes them "others", and white people can never be "others". Unless, of course, they are not straight, republican males. Then it's bombs away.
  14. NCOs are the backbone of the Corps. JD Vance is the coccyx.
  15. If I was a Russian who surrendered inside Russia, I would very fervently pray that I would not be exchanged. I would imagine that the best possible outcome would be to be sent back into one of the meat waves, where there is at least a slim chance of survival. More likely a bullet to the G-2 unit right after the happy homecoming pictures are taken.
  16. Of course they'll trot those out for Notre Dame, because black uniforms on August 31 is perfectly on brand for aggy.
  17. My wife had a biopsies done on a couple of spots on her neck and shoulder last week. She got the results back today letting her know that there were no problems with either. It got me to thinking that Arnold Schwarzenegger could make some extra coin by selling a recording that dermatologists could use in such cases: "Congratulations! It's not a toomah!"
  18. I may get one of these for my oldest younger brother. He doesn't seem to know that he's alive unless he's bruised, broken, or bleeding (usually all three at once) somewhere.
  19. How are you doing today? Head injuries with loss of consciousness are not to be messed with. If you haven't seen a doctor, you need to do so today. I had a coworker who took a fall (at home) and knocked the hell out of his head. He lost consciousness for about the same amount of time as you, then went about his business. Three days later he was in the hospital getting about a pint of fluid drained from his skull. It damn near killed him, and he still has some tics and twitches, about 20 years later. Don't screw around with your noggin, dude.
  20. Trump wasn't going to pardon them. If he got elected, they are no longer useful to him. Maybe if they rustled up a bunch of money one or two could buy a pardon, but that's the only way.
