  1. Johnny's is very, very good. But for similar (soul, not Greek fusion) food, I think Eagle's in North Birmingham is the best. And Savage's is a great call. They make them year-round now, but they used to only make iced sugar cookies for Halloween and Easter (pumpkins and rabbits respectively) when I was a kid and they are still my favorite cookie. Demitri's has good breakfast (as does Big Bad Breakfast). But yeah that whole part of town is really hopping.
  2. And you can kill two birds with one stone at Helen: they have a smoked beef rib with white barbecue sauce on it. You can eat there and triumphantly report to your friends in Texas that BOTH Alabama beef ribs AND white barbecue sauce are not good (though in Helen's case it is oustanding).
  3. Chez Fon Fon is a good recommendation. The observation that Birmingham barbecue generally sucks is accurate. But again, and I cannot stress this enough, Archibald's in Northport is excellent. The hot dog game in Birmingham has also declined pretty dramatically. The hotdogiers of old Birmingham have transitioned to places like Niki's West and Johnny's in Homewood (both good). If you want good dinner at night, Birmingham is a good choice. Chez Fon Fon, Bottega, Highlands, Hot and Hot, Ovenbird, Helen, Automatic are all excellent, if a little pricey.
  4. Birmingham Civil Rights museum is very good. The Barber Motorcycle Museum is amazing and world class. As for food, Archibald's in Northport is a billion times better than Rodney Scott's. If you got to Saw's, their best dish is the pork and greens. If you want soul food, order pick up at Eagle's in North Birmingham. The beef tips and ox tails are particularly good.
  5. Awesome. Now write it for transgenderism and we will have a party going on in here
  6. Mother Anna's was my favorite pre-Dig. Once the location improved by removing the overpass, the food quality went down. But lobster ravioli in 2000? Yes please.
  7. that will be an awesome show As for a decent place to get a bite, if it's just me I would go to North End and hit up Daily Catch, Neptune, Giacomo's. If you want lunch to soak up beer, go to Galleria Umberto and make sure to eat arancini and panzerotti and not just pizza. That place is an institution.
  8. If they're having the parade in Southie, it's worth going to check out. If you just want to booze it up, you can go pretty much anywhere.
  9. Interesting. I think he's funny.
  10. Here's my take for what it's worth. The books are all excellent but they are little more than an allegory of a knight errant righting wrongs. Lee Childs has admitted that if you look at the books logically they fall apart because no person could end up randomly walking into these sort of situations routinely. Reacher is smart, and interesting, but the real draw of the books is little more than Hulk Smash plus some fucking. That's a formula for sustained success. As for the actor they chose, I thought he was too wooden in the first few episodes but by the end really embodied the Reacher character. He was physically capable of pulling it off, but more importantly to me, he was able to act in a way that brought Reacher to life. One hangup I've always had is how a person who is basically a psychopath of the highest order can interact with normal people without coming across like a total sociopath as well. And this guy pulled it off. Funny, charming, arrogant, kind. Good show.
  11. This show was good. End of thread.
  12. About to post this. How is this possible? Also Solo is the unadulterated garbage.
  13. It all depends on how old it is. I have a maybe 25-30 year old 870 Express same description as yours. It is an excellent firearm. Sturdy, reliable and well made. At SHOT Show a few years ago I looked at the 870 line they had and they were all crap. They made Mossberg look like Krieghoff. Plastic safeties, thin stamped metal receivers. Just crap. Really too bad. Don't even get me started on the 11-87. What an abortion.
  14. The older 870s were excellent. The ones made for the past 15-20 years were trash.
  15. I am rewatching Season 1 as I watch Season 2 and this show just gets better and better. I missed tons of stuff the first time around.
  16. Got a recipe or special tips? That looks incredible.
  17. All I can say is that I stayed at the Fontainebleu and went to Joe's Stone Crab about ten years ago and both were awesome.
  18. "makes your tongue burn" is not the same thing as "melts in your mouth"
  19. 100% the right response to that bullshit
