  1. For official visits the school can fly them out and put them up in a hotel room with cookie cakes.
  2. I'm no tax lawyer/accountant but if I remember right from my days at UT, scholarship money came in the form of a check each semester and to the extent that I didn't spend the money on tuition or books (possibly some other categories?) it was taxable. And of course the money I made at my job was taxed as well. So I assume it would work the same way for athletes. I don't know but I kind of doubt the schools are writing the football players a check, that sounds like asking for trouble. I'm guessing they just say you don't owe us any tuition money and here are your free books and here is your dorm room and the cafeteria is over there.
  3. As far as the hangers on not getting paid... good? Or if they're able to manipulate the kid enough to profit off them as it is, they can probably manipulate the kid into sharing the wealth with them when they're getting paid above board. I imagine Oregon be delighted to have Nike as their patron, how many kids would be attracted to Oregon because it comes with a Nike endorsement deal attached? Same with Maryland and Under Armor. I guess it could create some friction if Nike is trying to make deals with USC but USC is annoyed at Nike luring recruits away to Oregon? But I doubt either side would get so mad about it they would decline to make money doing business with each other.
  4. Why would the scholarship benefits become taxable? Pretty sure lots of non-athlete students have income from other sources, and that doesn't make their scholarships taxable income. Why would the question be whether they can earn more than what they get now? Are they going to stop getting what they get now? And why would that be the case? If the school can afford to hand out scholarships now, they can afford to hand out scholarships whether or not the athletes have income from third parties. It's irrelevant.
  5. They don't need street agents, per the law they're allowed to have professional agents for this. And there's no need for the USC booster to do this winking nonsense, they can just make it known that they offer to to buy non-exclusive image rights from every USC player who makes it on the roster and say have your agent call me when you get to campus. If you become a star, maybe they even exercise those image rights and put you on a billboard or a TV spot, if not you get paid anyway. Might as well just make it above board. And it doesn't cost the schools or the NCAA anything - all the compensation comes from third parties. The schools get to keep all the money they're making already.
  6. Also at least as of 2013 they had "assigned seats" in the student section but each "seat" was literally like 9 inches of bleacher so you got real acquainted with the people crushed against you during the game if anything close to the max capacity turned out. That JFF v. Bama 2 game was ludicrous.
  7. at first I was like whoah they're gonna build a huge fuckin screen and then I realized the actual field image was the same size as now and they're just putting in extra ad space because lol of course they are
  8. Oh please, Charlie Strong was the belle of the ball as far as hot up-and-coming coaches in 2013. He'd turned down Tennessee. Florida fans were mad as hell that we got him before they could. And if Tom Herman didn't or doesn't work out, there will be plenty to point to as far as him not having actually accomplished all that much before he got here, or reasons why it doesn't count.
  9. No but see we made an offer and he expressed interest during the same time he was playing hardball negotiating with Bama and they ended up paying off his house and all kinds of other crazy shit, obviously that means it was a done deal and 100% going to happen except that we inexplicably let Mack Brown sabotage it despite him having no actual power to do that?
  10. It will be a long time before I assume a win over Okie Lite or KSU, regardless of how I think they’d do against a different team.
  11. At this moment I am more scared of Kansas than WVU
  12. Every Kansas fan in attendance should get to go join the locker room celebration imo
  13. Based on Diaz, Robinson, Bedford, and Orlando I think we just need to hire a new DC every year because somehow our defense is always awesome with a first-year coordinator. After that things seem to get dicey.
  14. Y'all still holding a grudge against Mack need to chill out. He was a net positive for this program, by a huge margin, beyond any doubt. Things went off the rails at the end there and pushing him out was the right and necessary thing to do, but he can't hurt you anymore. It's not like this is Art Briles or Joe Paterno we're talking about, his failings were fielding a mediocre football team and being thin-skinned/egotistical. As far as bad guys among college football coaches, he doesn't even register. How you gonna root against an old man taking one more shot at redemption?
  15. That scholarship line is so bogus, it goes up because the cost of tuition goes up, but it's not like these guys were going to be paying full fare and the school gave that money away. The dorms already exist, they're holding the classes already, in most cases the actual cost of sticking a football player in there is going to be negligible. It's absurd to suggest that the actual cost to the university of having 85 extra students is anywhere close to what they're paying for Tom Herman and his assistants.
  16. These are fantastic. The service academies are pretty reliable when it comes to having some of the best uniforms of any given season. And those Navy dress whites uniforms from a few years back are still some of the greatest ever. Don't know why they haven't brought those back at some point. Also imo we should keep the TEXAS but yes the collar longhorn should go. I still would not hate a matte white helmet at some point.
  17. “We won’t miss our most productive receiver with a habit of making clutch plays that were basically the difference between a win and a loss in several close games” is a homer-ass take. We do have good WR depth on paper but come on, if he was coming back nobody would be saying “ho hum, who needs him.” Not saying we won’t be ok or even quite good at WR but we’d be in a better position with him, pretty much by definition. Especially with Sam who, for all his strengths, doesn’t tend to hit receivers in stride downfield. Having another tall physical guy (along with CJ) who could stop and beat the DBs for those jumpballs complemented Sam much better than a track star type WR. Same deal with him producing YAC a lot of times even when he caught the ball with a defender already attached to him.
  18. Man it all just makes me sad that he's not back. We damn sure could have used him, and even if he never bled burnt orange his attitude clearly didn't stop him from showing out last year. IDGAF if he viewed his time at Texas as a springboard to the career he was hoping to have, that's what college is for. But now it doesn't look like he's got the career he was wanting and we don't have our top receiver and it seems like a big lose-lose.
  19. For $3 mil, yeah, I'd find something else to do for 12 days of the year. I'd miss it like hell, don't get me wrong, but maybe I'd just spend most of football season drinking on beaches in Fiji and skiing in Switzerland and shit.
  20. Hasn’t “Q” gone dormant a couple of times only to have a new account start posting claiming to be Q? My guess would be it’s been multiple people/groups of people.
  21. Are you kidding, they’re running around saying this 100% proves Q was right all along and going on about how this proves that every politician and actor is involved in the Luciferian ritual pedo cabal. As opposed to, you know, some gross old dudes wanted to bang teenage girls, as has been the case since the dawn of time, and there were people who would arrange sort of thing for the rich and powerful. As has been the case since the dawn of time.
  22. We tend to punish politicians for getting specific about what they want to do. You get specific you’re bound to step on someone’s toes. You just talk about how you believe in America and shit, everyone can just imagine you’ll do whatever they have in mind.
  23. So I assume you’re in favor of robust paid leave policies and subsidized childcare and affordable healthcare for pregnancy and birth and kids? You know, the kinds of things that would make having a child realistic for middle class people who want to be smart and responsible as opposed to just having kids whenever and further trapping themselves and their offspring in a cycle of poverty?
