  1. I called the plumbers for my elderly mom's house. They were some low number of Kevin Bacons from her late dad's electrical company. Charged her 80 bucks for about an hour's work. My mom, who thinks in 1950 dollars, was indignant.
  2. The key in life is to be in a band, not in the band.
  3. False. She only hates the bad ones. Those Black people.
  4. Back during the Great Canadian Trucker Strike I had a friend up there ask me to switch to Telegram so he could really tell me about it. I passed. Probably barely missed getting wrapped up in human trafficking, y'know, like one is prone to do.
  5. The French probably already knew who they were, and just waited for a little bit more confirmation before jumping on them all at the same time.
  6. Please tell me that the drone swarms blast out the Wicked Witch Flying Monkeys theme music.
  7. I worked about 3 years at a private college way back when, turned out I squeaked into a pension. I'm talkin a cool $105 a month. They were trying to get me to take about 20K as a lump sum, but that woulda been a 6% haircut. I decided to go for the longevity crap shoot, plus when I croak, my son gets about $50 a month as long as he lives. Swing for the fences, yo. Thing is, small private colleges with real pensions are an endangered species. Also, worked for about a year in Mexico and had a CURP (like a spicy SSN) and paid into it all official-like. I wonder if a have a free 80 pesos a month waiting for me down there.
  8. I'm 10% buying it as a savings, and 90% because it's shiny and heavy. You could stun an ox with a well-thrown Panamanian 20 Balboas coin.
  9. Good for them. Most students don't realize they'll be in a Year of Struggle until after midterms.
  10. I don't recognize the United States or its so-called flags because according to the Treaty of Tordesillas, this half of the globe is still subject to the Kingdom of Castilla. And no, I do not have to present a "drivers' license" to anyone not wearing the livery of the Viceroy. I do not treat with rogues, bandits, nor charlatans, Sirrah. Engage in mass psychosis as thou wilt, I will not join you in your fantastical caperings.
  11. I wonder if the purpose of the drones on Moscow was to make the Russians blow up expensive air defense missiles and scare everybody? And if a drone hits a ground target, gravy.
  12. For Poland's sake I hope you meant "emulate?"
  13. In some Russian soldier's memoir that I read decades ago, he said that whoever knocked out the blocking detachments could roll over Russia. I always wonder why the more numerous troops on the front lines didn't rise up against the blocking detachments themselves, but I guess that answers why they work.
  14. Aw hell. Still got this tenuous connection: Mama Canecutter taught Admiral Nimitz's grandson in elementary school. That would have gotten me a free water refill I bet.
  15. Find somebody who has 7,777 Dos Peso coins, low-ball em $800,000, which they take because the water bill is due and they also want to get a new tattoo.
  16. They definitely checked pockets and pouches. But I always wondered why they never checked trouser legs where we'd tuck em into our boots.
  17. Woman says she read that Speed Queen will eat your clothes. Any experience with that?
  18. After a mere 29 years, our toploader washer has burnt out, seized up, thrashed on the ground, died. My job in the family is to research new ones, but fuck that, I figured I'd hang out on Surly instead. We are looking for sturdy, simple, reliable, if such exists in this world of child-labor. 2 people, so bulk washing marathons are unlikely. I personally like the idea of a bucket and a stick, but that would have me sleeping under the deck.
