  1. Fuck! We need to slow down Jones-Perry.
  2. Dammit...we're getting blocked off the court at the end of this set.
  3. We need more consistent hitting from the middles to open up the outsides.
  4. All the Texas players just need to go up and bang the ball...stop this tipping shit.
  5. BYU runs a fast offense but our block needs to pick it up... Damn...Yaazie gets shuts down.
  6. Micaya needs to stop setting the ball to the other side!
  7. Team needs to pull it together or it's going to be a short night...
  8. Melani just turned 16 in September (and hopefully still growing) so I'm assuming she's going to be part of the 2020 class with: S - 6'1 Naomi Cabello OH - 6'2 Madison Williams L/DS - Nalani Iosia, Reilly Heinrich Even for her current thin frame, she puts a lot of heat on the ball, sees the court well, can abuse the block, is already a passing 6-rotation OH, and has a consistent jump serve. I think she can do well in the L2 position. Where she will get exposed is in her blocking, similarly as Amy Neal did. It will be interesting to see if she can transition form international to NCAA volleyball. Our team's history with smaller international OHs has kinda been a miss IMO (Pilar Victoria and Dariam Acevedo).
  9. Fisbeck is a tuuuurrrrriiiibbbbleee setter No wonder they lost so many matches on the European trip....
  10. I don't think Micaya has ever served that long in her career...9 times in a row.
  11. Ugh...I hope not. We need her at her best.
  12. I like that TX state is making lots of changes in their line-up, trying to give Texas different looks, but Texas is making the adjustment.
  13. Blair had another knee surgery and is still on the team. But Katarina has been taken off the roster on the Texas website.
  14. Butler serves into the net on match point....maybe freshman jitters (along with Jhenna)? I'd like to see them both pick up their play tomorrow.
  15. This is probably the worst I've seen Jhenna set with the limited amount of games she has played....hopefully it's just first tourney jitters.
  16. SFA slowing chipping away with Jhenna struggling with her location and Shook now setting.
  17. Put me in the camp that was initially excited to have a bigger setter that could block. But that really doesn't matter if she can't put the ball where the hitters need it. I think that was most apparent when Shook entered in the last set against WV...the hitters were once again adjusting to her sets and either tipping/making errors. Shook came in with the pedigree (coming out of SPVB which is notorious for developing setters) and accolades to be a game-changing setter, but has regressed since she's been here. In all honesty, she probably needs a setter coach on staff who can constantly provide feedback with her setting technique and decision making skills....similar to what she received at the club level. But Tonya and Erik aren't going anywhere and teams are only allotted 2 Assistant coaches. I thought Jhenna's sets to Johnson were on-point last match, and continues to improve with Butler (the set heights are there, now it's just the timing). She and Yaazie have a really good connection at the right pin, something that the team lacked last year that should have been a strength (with a returning 1st Team All-American in Nwanebu). I think the tips from White are now deliberate instead of necessity, and she is swinging more freely like she did her Freshman season. And hopefully winning those accolades will elevate Logan's game for the tourney, that she will be playing to prove that she deserves those awards.
  18. Sad to see Katarina go...but that does open up a scholarship to pick up another hitter or another setter. But if Shook decides to transfer, that would open up her scholarship as well. I'm not too worried about it. Elliott and his staff made a lot of changes in this past off-season that have made this team successful this season. So I'm sure he is already planning ahead.
  19. I was hoping for the 4 seed but didn't think we would get it with the number of losses we had. Honestly, I'd rather be going to Provo than to the other seeds' home courts anyways. The team looks more confident and loose with Jhenna setting. And the hitters are smashing down balls now knowing they are going to be set a hittable ball every time they take off for their approach. Back row play and serving have even improved. Teams are going to go after Jhenna's block, so the back row defense is just going to have to make adjustments...but I like our chances to make a deep run.
  20. In Texas' system, that right back position has to pass the ball on serve-receive, serve, play back row defense, and will be the secondary setter on the floor. Shook only does 2 of those skills well (setting and back row defense) and the setting can be debatable. When Shook was the starting setter, the only reason Claire beat out Jhenna for that spot was because Jhenna's passing on serve-receive was holding her back, but Jhenna does every other skill better....(still confused why Jerritt kept Claire back there the whole season when he could have been developing Jhenna, but that point is moot at the moment.)
  21. Hopefully, today was just an off-day for Logan....we are going to need her to be at her best in the tourney.
  22. Yep, we are gonna be either #4 or #5 IMO
  23. You can tell the setting difference with Shook in...players want to rip the ball but location is not where it needs to be.
  24. For real, too much turkey or something....she needs to pick up her play.
  25. Brionne and Asjia should be a good tandem in the middle next year with Molly backing them up. I'd like to see Katarina's arm swing get stronger in the off-season and see what she can do with better/consistent setting on the RS. I think Elliott will give her every opportunity to earn her spot, but she will be challenged with Skylar coming in. Skylar naturally hits better on the left, so there may be a lot of adjustments she may need to make to be effective on the right pin. It'd be nice to have Molly and Skylar come in during the spring time to get a head-start with their collegiate careers, but I don't think either with be early enrollees. Setting will be interesting next season. Will Ashley jump ship or will she stay and fight for her spot back? If Jhenna does become the only other setter on the roster, does Elliott find her a back-up or will he recruit someone who can actually challenge her for the starting role? It'd be nice if Jerritt could pick up a transfer setter with Jhenna's setting skills but who can actually be a blocking presence in the front row.
