  1. My heart doesn’t need this kind of excitement - Hector!
  2. I need to follow the Tigers more closely. Watching the Braves on WTBS in the 80s finally came in handy.
  3. Why was the infield in there? It’s only the 3rd inning. That made the inning a lot more difficult then it had to be.
  4. It’s more like a hotel at Captain Teebe’s!
  5. It’s amazing how truly dysfunctional the Republican Party is in Texas when trying to actually govern as compared to hurting people they don’t like. Everyone wants some version of property tax reform including homeowners, businesses, renters, etc. Everyone agrees that reform is needed and Texas has a massive surplus to spend. If Abbott, Phelan and Patrick weren’t crazy, they would get in a room and meet in the middle giving everyone a taste of what they want and no one would get everything. It’s actually not complicated but the individual personalities have created an atmosphere where the various factions within the Texas Republican Party can’t negotiate with each other anymore.
  6. They granted cert in Moore v. United States which is a tax case over a $14,000 liability (which means the plaintiffs aren’t funding this). The Court’s handlers want to preempt a wealth tax through a 16th Amendment argument. In the international tax area, the US has been taxing certain unrealized income since JFK was President. Clearly Harlan Crow and others think this group of justices can deliver a victory.
  7. How does he make this defense in Court without taking the stand? The prosecution is going to have the witnesses, the recording and the documents which were actually recovered. He can make this argument with no consequences in the court of public opinion; however, it will subject him to cross examination in this case. That opens him up to a ton of questions his counsel won’t want him to answer.
  8. I didn’t realize Joe Morgan posted on Surly.
  9. I’ve always understood that eminent domain required the state to pay fair market value for the acquired property. In this case, there is a willing buyer/seller who agreed in writing on the value. The litigation related to the value of the property seems to be fairly straightforward. Also, I’m surprised that the Commissioners on that list took this approach as it won’t be popular at their clubs.
  10. Additionally our State Leadership is against considering any types of energy efficiency measures as well. The cheapest upgrades to grid security would come by adopting/encouraging energy efficient upgrades to existing buildings. Why consider that when you can give billions to natural gas power plants?
  11. What’s really depressing is that the average voter is more like Helo instead of Sydney.
  12. Perry is a moron but his big donors weren’t nuts.
  13. Wilks and Dunn need to be sent on a hunting trip with Dick Cheney.
  14. If you’re worth more than $2 million, you pay tax on your unrealized gains on the way out.
  15. Not only that - but neither of his calls achieved his goals for the call. The Ukraine call didn’t result in Ukraine announcing an investigation into Biden, and the Georgia call didn’t result in finding an additional 11,000 votes. Trump is the ultimate loser who has no idea what actual success looks like.
  16. It’s pretty obvious that she will do anything to be First Lady. Hell she had sex at least 3 times with a man who eats pudding with his fingers and wipes his snot on strangers.
  17. Oracle technically moved their HQ to Austin but they didn’t make any employees move. I’m curious how many actual HQ employees sit in Austin.
  18. To avoid debate, the rules of the Senate require unanimous consent. Accordingly, 1 Senator can not provide consent and then the bill has to go through the normal process allowing amendments and time to debate.
  19. McCarthy will need D votes to pass a budget this fall as well. When he starts making additional requests this Fall, Biden should tell him to go fuck himself. The Rs in the House are simply incapable of governing. They should be permanently sent to the kids table in any negotiation going forward.
  20. If I could only have 1 sandwich for the rest of my life, it would be the Italian from Delaware Subs. Perfection.
  21. I don’t think this is correct. They tried to temporarily replace her and needed 10 R votes to overcome the filibuster. Per HRC’s comments last week, if she was replaced, they would need 10 R votes to sit her replacement on Judiciary. At this point, their only option is to wheel her corpse out and tell it how to vote. If Schumer was smart, this would have been addressed when she decided to run again in 2018. He should have told her and her staff that it’s OK if she runs, but she will be the ranking member on the Dog Catching and Flower Arranging Committees. Unfortunately Schumer is a moron without the spine to do what’s necessary.
  22. Are we sure they had the votes? Would Manchin and Sinema gone along? Was this subject to the 60 vote threshold in the Senate?
