He went from having the best year in his career with the Rockies to having his worst with the Angels. Do you really want to add a salvage operation to the team with 35 games left?  I don't think he's worth it, there's something wrong with him mentally or maybe he has a bad attitude since the trade. Either way, that is a phenomenal drop off over the course of a month, and the Astros don't really need him. If he were a gold glove first baseman I would say it's worth a shot, but we really don't need another outfielder.

This conversation went too far. It only started because I said he’s better than Julks. Because it’s an off day, I went looking at our 40 man roster and there are several folks who could easily be DFA’d in that group. I would not replace anyone on our 26 man roster today with Grichuk.

He was hitting .168 for the Angels since the trade, which is worse than Maldonado, so no thanks. There's a good reason he cleared waivers.

He has .774 OPS for the year combined with Colorado. Compared to most of the trash at the bottom of our 40 man - that looks like Lou Gehrig.

Grichuk could still be released by the Angels and become a free agent. Would the Astros have any interest in signing him to a deal for injury insurance with Brantley or to replace Jake Meyers?

He would be insurance for Brantley but I wouldn’t want to give up on Meyers to do it. It doesn’t look like there’s room on the 26 man roster.

Diaz is now a once or twice a week player with Abreu and Brantley back. That’s just the way it is in the regular season.
if we can make the postseason I’d hope that the FO sets the lineups again and we can see Diaz catching every game but Framber, and playing DH or 1B when Framber pitches, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

You’re assuming JV loses his personal catcher in the playoffs. I guess between the 2 of them it likely makes more sense to let Framber keep Linus’ security blanket as compared to JV.

Waiting for a mea culpa from those that were so certain that Brantley would never play again. Probably won’t happen, particularly from the two who were most vocal, as those two are very quick with the “I told you so” but extremely slow admitting when they are wrong.

It was one game and he didn’t even get a hit. Let’s not start patting ourselves on the back just yet.

Everybody started going back through last year's game cam pics, and we found him on another guy's game cam about three-quarters of a mile away.

The spring rains sure were good to him. Looks 3 1/2 last year, gonna say 4 1/2 this year. We are supposed to shoot 5 1/2 and up. I'm just not sure we are going to get the same kind of spring rains in 2024 to make him any bigger. My vote is to let him get shot this year with no repercussions.

He made a nice leap this year. Great looking deer!

  7. He’s clearly a moron. Winning brings in fans and results in increased revenues. It additionally provides opportunities to raise prices on everything with limited bitching.

    That’s a stunning buck.

He’s an incredible deer. In one sit, he was 20 yards from me in my bow blind. It was really cool to see him up close and personal. I think he injured one side of his antlers in velvet the prior season which is why I didn’t have at least one year of history before 2022.

I should also mention that I’m trying to get the trophy deer on my place to 7 years old. So, if he was 5 last year, I’m hoping for another couple of years of growth. I’m working toward a 200 inch deer one day. We’ve come close but haven’t broken that barrier yet.

Well the government (in some states) HAS found a solution—they are stopping their support and attacking education culturally, none of which makes sense. This, combined with buildings that need updating, updating campus infrastructure to be usable in the year 2023, lawsuits against a college/university, and enrollment increases/decreases, is what makes tuition rise. I know this board (and others) like to blame administrative bloat, but the salaries of administrators pales in comparison to how much the other stuff costs.

There isn’t a lack of a disclosure about how much higher ed cost. Colleges and universities have actually done a better job over the last 10 years in breaking down tuition bills and removing some junk fees that were auto generated to every student’s bill. The problem is FAFSA, and even they have made it a bit easier to fill out the form. They are still the issue, imo.

Another problem is the interest rates with the loans. Loans themselves are fine, but the interest should be a set at 0 (or 1 or 2 if they just have to make money). You shouldn’t pay your loans on time for 10 years and then see the balance go up. That’s a problem. From my experience in higher ed, students are well aware they have to pay them back. They all believe they will be able to get a job that will help them do that. Another problem is the lack of jobs in nearly all sectors for recent grads thanks to older adults staying in their jobs longer and just things in the country being generally more expensive, especially housing.

I’d also argue a good chunk of students take out loans to pay for school thinking they will hit it big via the influencer route and be able to pay it back sooner. I’ve seen that come up A LOT over the last 5 years.

A couple of thoughts on this:

    1. completely agree that the approach being taken by Red states in higher Ed makes no sense. Investing in higher ed brings others to invest in your state as companies want to hire educated employees, etc.

    2. On disclosure - maybe the issue isn’t disclosing the costs but the student’s expected earnings after graduating with your anticipated degree? I keep seeing anecdotes about kids getting private university degrees with significant debts in careers which can’t generate the income needed to ever repay it. The costs and the benefits ultimately need to be understood.

    3. On costs, I agree that certainly inflation should be expected but why should higher Ed costs inflate more significantly than other costs in our economy. I don’t think there is one item like admin costs as it’s a multitude of items that have created the inflation.

    4. The parent of any child who believes they are repaying their student loans with influencer money has failed. I had the benefit of parents who stressed the importance of taking costs into account in my college choice. That ultimately lead me to a great education at UT for a great price.

    5. With respect to interest, that’s an interesting thought as if the loans are Gov’t loans, the US doesn’t need to make a profit there. It could view that as an investment in our future economy.

  10. It has to be his mechanics. His fastball doesn’t have that deceptive lack of drop anymore.

Its the same with Framber. We’ve been talking about Framber not throwing his sinker too hard since the opener as it eliminates the late movement on the pitch. He’s still throwing it too hard.

I don’t know why we have coaches because I don’t think they do anything. They’ve had all year to prep Diaz for where to cutoff throws from the outfield at 1B, but he still doesn’t know.
