  1. Chas slept their scoreboard.
  2. One other benefit of the 529 account - Beginning in 2024, up to $35k in a 529 can be converted into a Roth IRA for the beneficiary which reduces some of the Rick that the $ aren’t ultimately used for college.
  3. Yes - Tax Basis will be split between the old shares and the new shares based on the relative values on the day of the spin-off.
  4. I would make that trade every time. The Big Unit made the Astros the best team in baseball that year who unfortunately ran into Kevin Brown. If a team is in its window to win and the trade significantly improves your opportunity to win it all, then do it. Its the same reason I would be aggressive in trying to rent Shohei for the rest of this year. Flags Fly Forever!
  5. In the 1930s?
  6. 10% of the players have to be Astros fans as Josh Fields is coming in hot at 9% today. I have to admit that using that answer made me smile.
  7. No - The Senate should change the rules that allows one moron Senator from a piss-any state without a pot to piss in from shutting down promotions important to military readiness. The Senate’s entire rule book needs a reset.
  8. I think I’ve been able to use Clemens and Steve Carlton in about 25% of the grids.
  9. My heart doesn’t need this kind of excitement - Hector!
  10. I need to follow the Tigers more closely. Watching the Braves on WTBS in the 80s finally came in handy.
  11. Why was the infield in there? It’s only the 3rd inning. That made the inning a lot more difficult then it had to be.
  12. It’s more like a hotel at Captain Teebe’s!
  13. WTF? Madris?
  14. It’s amazing how truly dysfunctional the Republican Party is in Texas when trying to actually govern as compared to hurting people they don’t like. Everyone wants some version of property tax reform including homeowners, businesses, renters, etc. Everyone agrees that reform is needed and Texas has a massive surplus to spend. If Abbott, Phelan and Patrick weren’t crazy, they would get in a room and meet in the middle giving everyone a taste of what they want and no one would get everything. It’s actually not complicated but the individual personalities have created an atmosphere where the various factions within the Texas Republican Party can’t negotiate with each other anymore.
  15. They granted cert in Moore v. United States which is a tax case over a $14,000 liability (which means the plaintiffs aren’t funding this). The Court’s handlers want to preempt a wealth tax through a 16th Amendment argument. In the international tax area, the US has been taxing certain unrealized income since JFK was President. Clearly Harlan Crow and others think this group of justices can deliver a victory.
  16. How does he make this defense in Court without taking the stand? The prosecution is going to have the witnesses, the recording and the documents which were actually recovered. He can make this argument with no consequences in the court of public opinion; however, it will subject him to cross examination in this case. That opens him up to a ton of questions his counsel won’t want him to answer.
  17. I didn’t realize Joe Morgan posted on Surly.
  18. I’ve always understood that eminent domain required the state to pay fair market value for the acquired property. In this case, there is a willing buyer/seller who agreed in writing on the value. The litigation related to the value of the property seems to be fairly straightforward. Also, I’m surprised that the Commissioners on that list took this approach as it won’t be popular at their clubs.
  19. Additionally our State Leadership is against considering any types of energy efficiency measures as well. The cheapest upgrades to grid security would come by adopting/encouraging energy efficient upgrades to existing buildings. Why consider that when you can give billions to natural gas power plants?
  20. What’s really depressing is that the average voter is more like Helo instead of Sydney.
  21. Was the original post satire and I missed it?
  22. Perry is a moron but his big donors weren’t nuts.
  23. Wilks and Dunn need to be sent on a hunting trip with Dick Cheney.
  24. If you’re worth more than $2 million, you pay tax on your unrealized gains on the way out.
