2023 NFL DRAFT
Levis has the prototype size which is a hit and miss metric (Josh Allen had shitty stats at Wyoming), and put up good stats with his previous OC and a better OL. The combo of new coaches and underclass men OL really hurt his performance in 2022. What would he look like on Alabama or Ohio State’s offense? What would Bryce Young or CJ Stroud look like on Kentucky’s offense?

Cleve Bryant has died
He got paid and got laid while working for the Texas Longhorns football program. If that’s not L-I-V-I-N, I don’t know what is.

2023 Houston Texans Offseason - A Huge #2
What would be sweet as shit is if in the lead up to the draft all the buzz is on the DL talent and teams cool on this QB class. Already a lot of smoke that Chicago may keep #1 and get the best player on the board. Maybe another team wants the other top prospect and moves up…or wants their choice of QB while Houston could be indifferent or favor Levis over Young/Stroud. This team needs as much 1st-3rd round talent as it can get. If they take a QB at #2 who flops, it will set the franchise back another two or three seasons. I wouldn’t risk it with any of these QBs.

2023 Houston Texans Offseason - A Huge #2
There’s a lot of professional mock drafts coming out, based on early feedback from NFL sources, that have Stroud over Young as first QB taken and/or a non-QB taken at #1. I hope this is real and keeps up because: 1. Texans may end up with all QBs on the board at #2; 2. Texans may not feel pressure to take QB2 over a top rated defensive player at #2 if someone trades up to #1; 3. Texans could get some nice trade down offers from a team seeking QB1, QB2, or top rated player (Carter or Anderson) depending on how it plays out.

Show me your old Tacos (4Runner, FJ, Landcruiser, bronco etc)
We have been on the Bronco waiting list for 18 months and still haven’t put the order into the banks yet, and Ford discontinued the color my wife wanted (school bus yellow ‘cyber orange’) so we were SOL. Then bless this old lady’s soul who ordered a cyber orange, hard top, Outer Banks with the big engine and leather seats from a small town dealership, then backed out as soon as she tried to drive it. We jumped on that shit last week and somehow only paid $2k over sticker (the dealers in Houston are still asking for $15-20k over sticker if they get any in stock).

2023 Houston Texans Offseason - A Huge #2
I originally hated picking Stroud because he was never overly impressive by throwing to mostly wide open future NFL WRs and going to his first read. When he got to the playoffs against Georgia, he had one of the best games of his career, hit second and third reads, and ran when he needed to. So who knows with this group of QBs? If you believe analytics in sports, there are damning stats against sub 6’ QBs not named Brees or Russell Wilson. I think it’s too much risk to take any of the QBs at #2 because of how many holes the Texans need to fill across the roster. They need to get guys as close to sure bets as possible. Unfortunately none of the top 3 will probably be there at #12. There are plenty who think Levis will be the best pro of the group. He sucked in two UK games I watched, but someone’s counter was “how well do you think Young or Stroud would look on this 2022 UK team with their dogshit OL?” Fair point.

Every time someone mentions how smart Kyle Shanahan is, all I can think of is during his sophomore year when he impaled the bottom of his thigh trying unsuccessfully to hurdle over a picket fence.

I hate the concept of demanding draft picks for retired coaches. Nobody can answer my question of: “If the coach is still under an enforceable contract and the old team won’t let the coach go to a new team, wouldn’t that mean the old team has to pay him if he unretires and shows up to work on Monday just to force his release?” Regardless, he is likely looking to pad his retirement (asking $20m/yr) more than following his competitive fire. He’s older, won’t have Drew Brees, and no Super Bowl winning coach has ever won one with another team. Paying the Saints a first round pick and more for that opportunity? GTFO

Alec Baldwin Shoots and Kills Cinematographer, Wounds Director
What the fuck was he doing pointing the gun at the cinematographer even if he thought it was empty or had blanks? To be an asshole and try to scare the shit out of her assuming it was blanks? If he was just “practicing”, he didn’t have to point it at someone an pull the trigger. Dude is a retard who killed someone and should go to jail.

Federal Trade Commission Proposes Ban On "Non-Competes"
One of my former employers has an overly broad non-compete that they force every employee to sign on your first day of work with no mention of it during interviews or the job offer. Most sign it because they don’t understand or (as in my case), there weren’t many biotech jobs in Texas (Austin specifically). When I was terminated without cause (a whole other dramatic bullshit story) a week before my wife gave birth to our first child, the CEO and the president made all kinds of wild threats at me about going to a competitor or even within the general orthopedics and spine device field. I think none quote was “it doesn’t matter if we win in court, we will bankrupt you. If you have $200,000 in your bank, I’m willing to spend $200,001 on lawyers!” I was in product development and lab science, not sales. A non-disclosure of confidential information should have sufficed, not something baring me from employment in my field in the 27 states where the company had sales. I hired an employment attorney who informed me that the NC was overly broad and unenforceable, but recommended I take their severance offer (cash and shorted NC time) even if if my acceptance made it enforceable, because these assholes were batshit crazy. I wish a national ban on NCs would have been in place at the time.

Since Sengun slipped out of the top 10 in the draft and OKC stupidly gave up the pick for some future Washington Bullets bullshit.

2022-23 Houston Rockets Thread - One More Season of Suckage
A veteran offered a max contract? Especially if they replace Silas with a respected coach and extra especially if they add Wamby or Scoot and dump KPJ. Someone else needs to handle the ball. It’s no surprise that the Rockets are statistically better when KPJ isn’t on the floor. This team could jump up pretty quick as (or if) Green learns to be a professional and Smith keeps adjusting to the NBA. Sengun probably is the best asset even if non-Rocket fans see Green as the only potential franchise player. Some grizzled veterans filling out the ‘23-24 roster are sorely needed, almost as much as a new coach to light a fire under their asses.

2023 Houston Texans Offseason - A Huge #2
Adding Trubisky, Baker, Darnold, Rosen to Trey Lance and Zach Wilson…a few more busts top 10 pick QBs in the past 5 drafts. Burrow, Herbert, Allen, Lawrence, maybe Kyler are hits. Tua, Mac Jones, Daniel Jones are whatever. Dwayne Haskins, Jordan Love, Justin Fields, and Kenny Pickett if you expand to all first rounders. It’s a crapshoot with more misses than hits. Burrow and Lawrence were “no shit” choices. This draft is more like the Baker/Darnold/Allen with no obvious choice at #1 and a good chance only one or none end up being good. Way early mock drafters keep assuming Houston, Seattle, Indy, Atlanta, and Detroit all want a top 10 QB. As often as we see slides in the draft and smokescreens from teams, it’s possible that Stroud or Levis could be there at #12.

Sean Payton related Trivia: no Super Bowl winning head coach that moved to another team ever won another Super Bowl.

2023 Houston Texans Offseason - A Huge #2
No shit. Sean Payton isn’t doing a one year turnaround on this shitbox team and there’s no Drew Brees coming in as a non-franchise tagged free agent QB to help him. Get young, energetic, and innovative coaches and keep building depth through 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks. Last year’s draft still has potential to be very good if we see Stingley play more man, aggy guard starts playing with the “asskicker attitude” he was billed for, and Metchie gets a clean bill of health (supposedly should be back for OTAs). Add in Pitre and Pierce and that’s 5 starters. We have #2 (could likely trade down if they don’t like a QB and pick up other high picks), #12, #33, #65, and #73. If Caserio hits on 3 or 4 of those, they’ve turned over half their starters in two drafts with a young talent base to build around. Trading a first round pick for Sean Payton would be a disaster.
