Widespread Panic - Halloween show - UNO Lakefront Arena - 1990-something. Group in the row behind us had done some pretty heavy "tailgating" pre show. Dude on the end of the row plopped down in his chair right at the start of Galactic's set and didn't move - thought he was dead or something. About midway through Panic's set, the dude is resurrected, turns around and faces his chair, drops trou, and proceeds to piss all over the chair, turns around, plops back down in the chair and doesn't move the rest of the show. Not sure how far down the Yellow River trickled, but it was funny to see the crowd part like the Red Sea as the warm yellow river trickled down the arena rows.

Agreed...the three best characters in the movie were Al Czervik (Rodney), Carl Spackler (Bill Murray), and Judge Smails (Ted Knight) with best supporting actress nod to Lacey Underall (Cindy Morgan).

I knew that Santino was going to have to go through all this. And Fredo -- well -- Fredo was -- well -- But I never -- I never wanted this for you. I work my whole life, I don't apologize, to take care of my family. And I refused -- to be a fool -- dancing on the string, held by all those -- bigshots. I don't apologize -- that's my life -- but I thought that -- that when it was your time -- that -- that you would be the one to hold the strings. Senator - Corleone. Governor - Corleone, or something... Barzini is dead. So is Phillip Tattaglia. Moe Greene. Stracci. Cuneo. Today I settled all family business so don't tell me that you're innocent. One of my all time favorite movies.......

Forgot about Green Spot...that stuff is pretty good as well. The bordeaux version is a unique uisge beatha Despite what you may think about what appears to be "gimmicky", Sexton is actually getting some pretty good run amongst the whiskey types and although the name of Quiet Man sounds gimmicky, the whiskey itself is distilled in Derry (Northern Ireland), fairly far away from where the Quiet Man was filmed and was recommended to me by the bartender at a bar with over 50 Irish whiskeys (since I mentioned to him I was primarily a single malt scotch drinker). I think they're both legit and worth a pour so you can decide for yourself.

Hadn't seen a topic for Irish Whiskey yet so thought I would start. My latest find....single malt irish whiskey......really good value for the price point ($25). Believed to be associated with the Bushmills distillery and of course a really cool bottle. Another nice find I discovered at the bar at Dromoland Castle in County Clare - really nice finish - likely from the bourbon casks it was aged in. $35 price point that I've seen in places like Spec's and Total Wine Redbreast 12 - Still one of the best Always pick up a bottle of this when I visit Dublin. The Jameson distillery reserve - 12 year aging in bourbon and sherry casks.....nice sipping whiskey and can't buy it in the States. What are y'all drinking

Brief List- Ran into Little Richard in an elevator in Los Angeles at the Hyatt. He started chatting me up and when he found out I was from Houston, got all excited because Houston was one of the places he got his start. He then proceeded to hand me a bunch of religious material for whatever conference he was attending and told me to give all the people in Houston his love. As flamboyant in real life as his on stage persona. Had a meal stolen by Ben Affleck - we were at some restaurant he was a part owner of and he was having a post Golden Globes party there and apparently whatever I ordered was his favorite dish. He was pretty intoxicated and just grabbed it from the kitchen. Our meal was comped and Ben apologized. I do remember seeing him emerge from the upstairs room where the party was happening, each time a bit more intoxicated. Think the last time we saw him, the ladies he was coming down the stairs to meet had to help him back upstairs. Chatted up Luke Wilson at the bar at the Four Seasons in Austin while he was ordering a plethora of tequila shots to take back up to his room. He was filming Idiocracy at the time. Owned a rehearsal studio for a while in NW Houston and before the 2004 Super Bowl we hosted Toby Keith, his band, and another group of All-Stars, which included Steven Tyler & Joe Perry, Sammy Hagar, Chad Smith (Drummer for RHCP), Waymon Tisdale (who was a kick-ass bassist) and DMC from Run DMC. By far, the coolest of the dudes was DMC, who hung with us in one of the back rooms while our band was jammin with some of the roadies from Toby Keith's band. We later hooked him up with some beer as well. Also talked up Chad Smith a bit. Biggest primadonna of the bunch with Toby Keith....he didn't want anything to do with us, but the other dudes were cool (although Sammy came and went quickly, we really didn't see much of him). Paul Wall was also a regular at our studio Been in Arianna Huffington's house in LA back in the late 90's. My wife worked for her in DC briefly and Arianna invited us to her house when we were out in LA. Loved Arianna's mother who was living with her at the time - Yia Yia. She tried to give Arianna's baby grand piano away to me

MidTex - I'll throw in some things. Dublin Pubs - Try to hit O'Connors while in Dublin - best place in town to see an impromptu trad session - it is out of the Temple Bar area - around the corner from the Merrion Hotel. Also, try to find Dawson's.....the smallest pub in Ireland....it is in the "basement" of a building. Probably less than 20 people can fit in the place. Worth it to say you've had a Guinness (or Irish beer of your choice) there. If you are looking for a Dublin pub crawl experience, try the literary pub crawl. It is entertaining and you''ll learn a lot about Irish lit while getting lit. Second the National Museum Galway - Pub crawling in Galway is loads of fun, especially because it is so compact and a college town to boot (National Ireland University-Galway). Several of the pubs are great to hear trad. Might consider taking a day trip either into the Burren (perhaps wander over to the Cliffs of Moher) or into the Connemara (nice drive out to Kylemore Abbey and/or through Cong)

Glad you liked it. Ireland is one of my favorite places in the world...hope the Mom's enjoy it as much as my dad did.

Most everyone else has covered the good things to do on Kauai, but I might recommend a gift for your bride - a Niihau shell necklace. These aren't your tourist trap shell necklace type things - these are handmade shell necklaces with tiny "pearl quality" shells. They can run from several hundred to several thousand, but it is an extremely unique gift and Kauai is the best place to find them. We bought one when we honeymooned in Kauai and we actually have it displayed at our house -it gets worn occasionally. It should hold its value quite well. Some more info: http://www.niihauheritage.org/niihau_shells.htm

This one is actually pretty close to me.....haven't been to the actual location, but I have had a couple of their IPA's at Craft Beer Cellar in downtown Houston - Obvious Equation and Yesterday's News - both New England IPA's

Missed this earlier as well but that drive from Kapalua to Kahului (Kahekili Highway) is definitely an okole squeezer (good Hawaiian term to know by the way)......You have to know who has the right of way on the one lane sections (the person going uphill has to yield). We've seen confrontations between tourists and locals because tourists generally don't know this rule. Still, it is quite adventurous and I do recommend anyone going to Maui do this at least once. Going from Kapalua to Kahului is the way to do it.......going the other way will be more difficult.

Have been fortunate to have spent several years making annual trips to Ireland for work and then took my dad there last Spring. That's a pretty good southern route given your timetable. Perhaps on 2nd night instead of going all the way to Galway, stop in Co. Clare and stay at Dromoland Castle. The moms will probably like that. There are lots of activities at the Castle and the guy that does the carriage ride on site is definitely an interesting Irish storyteller. You can hit out to the cliffs the next morning...probably actually closer from Dromoland than Galway. Galway is a fun town as you probably know...one of my favorite spots. O' Connors pub around the corner from the Merrion Hotel in Dublin usually has pop up trad sessions on any given night. May actually have better luck in Galway with trad music sessions though.

Given that I also see Blantons and Balcones Baby Blue, what time are you hosting all of us for the tasting.......

Big Green Egg & Other Ceramic Grills All Encompassing Thread
PencilPusher replied to Mac8111's topic in Food and Travel
Think someone already mentioned it, but I buy a non-smoked spiral sliced ham (don't buy the hickory ones). Slather the ham in mustard and put your favorite rub on it (for hams, anything that works well with pork shoulders work well here) and smoke it at around 225 until the internal temperature gets to 140 (as was mentioned above). Since it is pre-cooked, you are just trying to get the flavor of the smoke and some nice crusting with the rub. Wood choice is personal preference. The Easter ham was smoked with pecan wood chips. -
General Applewhite also mentioned the comedy/magic show thing - Warren & Annabelle's. Unfortunately not for kids but highly recommend for adults. Warren isn't performing as much anymore I don't think (at least he wasn't when we were in Maui 2 summers ago - they had different comedy acts), but remember catching him when his theatre was relatively new and it was always a fantastic show.

Maui is great....can give lots of recommendations in Lahaina/Kaanapali area since that is generally where we stay. For your kids, a great breakfast option is Slappy Cakes - make your own pancakes. My daughters (aged 10 and 12 at the time) loved that place. It wasn't outrageously priced. Mama's Fish House is the best place on the island to splurge....we usually save that for the dinner right before leaving (since it is close to Kahului airport). Lahaina Grill is also a good splurge spot. My wife also still loves Longhi's in Lahaina - she is partial to it because that is where she had our pre-wedding brunch for all the ladies on the trip. Lelani's was mentioned above....good place in Kaanapali There are lots of good poke, pho, and other Asian spots all over the island - I'd yelp around for those....those tend to be a little more budget friendly as well. Food trucks are also starting to get popular there, especially in and around Lahaina and Kihei. Check Yelp or some other source to see what the latest are. Haleakala is great...we've skipped the early morning sunrise thing and done sunset instead. Much less traffic and you get the same effect. Can also catch the Brocken Spectre on the way up in the late afternoon. One of only a few places in the world to do that. If you are that at the right time, the moonrise happening at sunset is also cool. Obviously has to be full moon to see that. If you do road to Hana, take the road all the way around....the backside of Haleakala can look really spectacular in the late afternoon sun. Some one lane sections can be a bit harrowing, but much improved over say 20 years ago. You'll also drive by the Maui winery as you have to pass through Upcountry to get back to the main parts of the island. If you like wine, it is worth a stop if nothing else but to rest your legs for a bit. The wines have actually gotten better over the past decade or so, but don't expect Napa/Sonoma levels of winemaking. We also like to ferry over to Lanai and rent a jeep to bang around a bunch of trails. The Munro Trail that goes across the top of the island you'll be told you can't drive on, but that is because if you get stuck in the mud up there, it's expensive to get you out. There are other drives as well. Our kids liked it because Dad drove a bit faster on some of the bumpy trails and it was better than a roller coaster ride. Also, usually few other people out there so you can truly get away from it all. Several already mentioned snorkeling. We've done both Molokini and Lanai excursions...Molokini trips are shorter and you will see fish (and turtles) but Lanai are a bit more adventurous and will take up a bit more of your day. If you want to do a luau...Old Lahaina Luau is the way to go. Best food and probably the most authentic. However, if your kids have to see the fire dancers (which are not Hawaiian), there are other luaus that provide that. The Hyatt's Drums of the Pacific I know has fire dancers, though the food is below that of Old Lahaina Luau. Book now though, Old Lahaina sells out quickly, especially in the summer.

I was at this game sitting at the very front of the student section. As Beta said, we had this game......was pissed when Strollin Nolan strolled right back into the building after what we thought was an ejection. Kinda liked the silver jerseys though........

I'll let y'all have fun with this one.......This is clearly the "burning" issue of the day in suburbia....Won't someone think of the children! Fiber Optic Install Crew- Worker urinating on the side of a house This morning around 9:30 I witnessed one of the workers with the fiber optic installation crew urinating on the side of house on Lane. I turned around and drove back to the location where his truck was parked to get his license plate no. but he drove off in his white dually truck. I called the club house to let them know and suggested they have our neighborhood patrol talk to the company foreman overseeing the project. I just wanted to make everyone aware as this person is walking through our yards and no telling what else he is capable of. I...I'm speechless. So, are you saying because he had to go and he probably felt he was out of view and no one could see him, that peeing on the side of a house means he's capable of...what...breaking into the house or stealing your lawn chairs? That is a BIG step to take. Wow. And, so far as I know, urine doesn't cause any damage to a house and, heck, his was probably a fraction of the urine the house has seen from dogs, cats, rats, and any number of other animals running around. While I agree that it's a little uncouth, it's clear you haven't ever worked a long outside job where there's no access to proper facilities and thus you do what you have to do. I will bet you 95% of men you ask have done the same thing many, many times. Heck, it's the primary reason construction workers are 99.9% men - because that's exactly what they do. It's a capability that women don't have. Now, if you said he was taking a crap, I'd be right there with you, but taking a pee, at least to me, doesn't warrant a rant on ND. Just my 2¢. We should send him to Doug’s house next time he has to take a leak. Thank 7 Thanks This is clearly going to be an issue that women just aren't going to understand. As I said, that's why y'all aren't (generally) in construction or outdoor jobs that require lengthy times away from bathrooms. The only thing I'm surprised about, so far, is the number of women that don't already know this from their boyfriends/husbands. As your significant others about this and see what they say. Thank 2 Thanks I wonder if all of the kids and their parents walking home from FCE would understand as he was clearly visible on the path home. Thank 1 Thank Well, I could answer that by saying that, at least so far, you're the only one who complained...if anyone else even saw him. Everybody else that may have saw him probably just went "Sigh...men" and went along their way without giving it a second thought. Thank 3 Thanks there is a mute option on this site - thank goodness Thank Doug - your sexist comments aside, I don't know why you're so surprised that someone would have a problem with a stranger peeing on the side of a house that isn't theirs. Besides the fact that it's rude, it's kind of stupid. If the man was visible from the street that seems to tread too closely to public urination, and if a child had been nearby, indecent exposure. It's one thing to pee in your own backyard where no one can see you, and another to pee on someone else's property while visible from a public street. Thank 2 Thanks I wasn't being sexist in any way. Heck, I showed my wife this thread and even she was stunned at the responses from women who clearly don't understand the trade...or what men do. I don't know why I tried to talk sense into anyone - I should have just stayed out of it. As I said, it's uncouth. However, if I saw a worker I hired doing that in my yard, while I wouldn't be thrilled with it, it is what it is. Been there done that many times in my life as have 99% of men you ask. Most of the time I'm sure we all try to hold it until we can get to a bathroom but sometimes, when you're out in the field, there comes a time when that's not an option and you do your best to hide it. As for your legal arguments, it would not be "public" urination if it was on private property and it wouldn't be indecent exposure if it was done without any intent of said exposure. One single person happen to drive by, then actually backed up to confirm what she saw. Obviously, no one else saw it and I'm sure he had no intention of anyone seeing him. Just bad timing on his part and somehow this has blown up into an "oh my God I wonder what else he's capable of doing - we should call the cops and have him arrested!" It's beyond me why anyone made a big deal out of it. But, whatever...mute me for trying to explain. That's the way of the internet these days - if someone had a different opinion or try's to explain and you don't get it, freak out and unfriend/block/mute them. I’m with Doug on this. I prefer not to see it, however I’d also prefer for them to pee somewhere outside instead of knocking on my door to use the bathroom. If they don’t have temporary portables set up, what are they supposed to do? I’m a woman and I get it! Thank 6 Thanks There are restrooms in the clubhouse, subway, gas station, etc..He has a truck. Drive to the restroom and do your business. Whipping it out and urinating on someone’s house in front of the window is unacceptable. We can add your address as a safe spot too. Just forewarnn your children, spouse and neighbors that you asked for this. Thank 4 Thanks I'm going to ask the mods to close this thread since it's very clear some people don't know how to get along with others. Thank 2 Thanks Actually, Shannon, I don’t think you do get it! We don’t live in the middle of thousands of acres without services. The Exxon, the CVS, Walgreens — all of these businesses have facilities. There is NO EXCUSE for public urination. I’m flabbergasted at all of you who are excusing this!! Thank 3 Thanks It's like someone found the elusive bigfoot. One person happened to catch a guy in the act, despite it happening a hundred times a day right under your noses, and all heck breaks loose. That's what I'm flabbergasted about. No one's excusing it - we're just smart enough to realize it happens all the time and thankfully it's VERY rare that anyone sees it. Y'all really need to talk to your significant others (and ask them to tell the truth). Then again, I guess there's some people here that even I wouldn't tell the truth to because I'm not sure I'd ever hear the end of it. No wonder men have to lie....errr...stretch the truth so much. Thank 1 Thank Yes let us all run to our husbands to tell us how it is. We "understand" how it is, we just don't agree. Having a different opinion doesn't make us wrong or ignorant, it just means we have a different opinion. Thank 4 Thanks Lindsey, I have no problems with anyone disagreeing. But, threatening to put out flyers with addresses or letting people know what's a "safe house" is beyond ridiculous and completely over the top. In fact, it's borderline disgusting behavior, though not unexpected on the internet. You can disagree and make it clear you disagree. I can say I don't like it but it doesn't surprise me in the least. We're cool. There are several of these responses that take disagreeing, though, way too far. I find it humorous no other guy has actually posted on here (though quite a few have PM'd me to let me know they're laughing). Apparently I was the only one stupid enough to open this can of worms. I'll bow out now and let you girls have your fun. Good luck getting the guy arrested or shamed or something. I'm honestly surprised the OP didn't whip out a cell phone and take a picture of him whipping it out given they actually stopped and drove back to check it out. Seems like a waste of effort. Take a picture next time so we can have the guy arrested. Peace out. Thank 2 Thanks Should these guys be peeing on houses, absolutely not. Agree with Amanda that there are other places up the road they can take a break. The club house recommendation is right on to try and contact the foreman about it.. because it is near a school there is a more likelihood that he/she may listen IF approached correctly. You are fighting a trade and a good % of the male population, and shouting into the wind as they ignore us. HOWEVER, the next door watching (as many sit back and watch the show) that is provided in multiple posts is overboard and not respectful towards the opinions of others. @Amanda for yelling at Shannon for her opinion " I don’t think you do get it! " now that's the way to argue for respect, @Shannon, kudos for jumping in with your opinion on this heated string of attacks. @Gina your threat is obviously emotionally driven without much thought to it and I do not appreciate your flyer "plan" regardless of your feelings towards Doug's posts. Maybe this stirs up another round of "debate", but here's hoping Next Door chatter can be more productive next time.. sorry to those of you following along for enjoyment only here :-) (FYI...this is the wife of the male "stirring the pot")
