  1. Growing up in Austin, I remember the big games were always: OU for national relevance Arky for SWC relevance Aggies were rarely in the discussion for SWC glory post WWII until Jackie "FedEx" Sherrill came along. Sure, they would win a championship here or there, but from 1960-the early 80's, it was Texas and Arkansas. If memory serves, from 1960-1984, A&M won maybe 2 conference championships....same as Baylor who was dreadful until Teaff came along. Only Rice, Tech, and TCU won fewer during that period. The A&M game was interesting and state pride was certainly at stake, but the OU and Arkansas games had much more at stake. Hell, UH was a bigger deal in the late 70's early 80's because they had better teams and were competing for the SWC championship during that period (to say nothing of the 90 UH game) That was also during the time that not every game was on TV....remember listening to the dulcet tones of the great Ron Franklin during the early 80's on KVET 1300
  2. Sears catalog was the bomb back then.......couldn't wait to get the Christmas edition to start building the list for the jolly fat man.
  3. "Come Dance with Lance and the Runnin' Horns to the Elite 8" - T shirts that showed up on campus the day after we beat Xavier in the Sweet 16. One of the best sports moments from when I was in school. Guillermo "Panama" Myers with the big block against Purdue to get into the Sweet 16. BMW offense.......it was all fun. The 1990 tournament also had Loyola Marymount make the Elite 8 before getting clobbered by UNLV. Fun times watching the tourney that year.
  4. I have a Primo (BGE equivalent) and it is my go to for low and slow cooking/smoking. For Easter, smoked a store bought spiral sliced ham and there is not a single person in family that wants to have holiday ham any other way.
  5. Was just in Destin over Spring Break....that is actually a nice time to go (though unseasonably cold this year.....lows in the 40s). Prefer staying east of Destin proper (really like Sandestin) and going in to Destin for fishing charters, boat cruises, etc. Pensacola Beach is somewhat underrated. It is a small step down in sand and water quality, but not much. The Blue Angels practice is cool to see (Fun Fact-my wife's uncle was in the Blue Angels) Haven't been to Gulf Shores......folks tell me that was what Destin was 30 years ago
  6. 8th Wonder is about 3/4 of a mile from Minute Maid...brisk 15 min walk. It is 3 or so blocks down from the soccer stadium which is only a few blocks south and east of Minute Maid. Your hotel might be closer to 8th Wonder, depending on where you are staying.
  7. I'll see your NFL jackets and raise you this: Loved the NFL Sheets as a kid.....of course I had a roommate after college that was sporting a more modern version of this on his bed....we were out drinking one night and he was lamenting his lack of action in said sheets.....to which another friends girl goes....."no self respecting woman is getting it on with someone in a bed with NFL sheets".....said sheets disappeared shortly thereafter.
  8. A few that I have been enjoying recently
  9. 8th Wonder Brewery isn't too far from Minute Maid. That is a good spot for some pre-game brews https://8thwonder.com/brews.
  10. Not a huge fan of the "Yacht Rock" genre, but I do have Christopher Cross' "Sailing" on my play list......reminds me of sailing on Lake Travis in my younger days. In college, we used to have watching parties for the back to back Wed night Fox drama powerhouses of Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place. Had a big thing for Tiffani Thiessen during that time
  11. I am going to enjoy contributing to this thread as I absolutely detest the "NextDoor Ninnies" in my neighborhood. Too lazy to dig back on all the past shenanigans, many flavors of which have already been mentioned in this thread, but I am sure there will be many more entries in these categories. Hoping the entitled millennial wife brigade living in the "gated" section of non-custom homes, the HOA conspiracy theorists, or the "OMG we live in such a crime infested neighborhood because my car was broken into even though I left my car outside with the doors unlocked" people start acting up again so I can reveal their shenanigans in all their glory.
  12. Speaking of accounting programs......is this the part of the discussion where we remind everyone that the lead Arthur Andersen partner on the Enron debacle was a proud graduate of....you guessed it.....Texas A&M.
  13. A movie character in a similar profession, though I can't claim to have the certain set of skills that the character in the avatar possesses.
  14. YES! One of my favorite Christmas presents ever....played the crap out of this game when it came out. Too bad it would cost me 300+ to buy on the market today.
