Wish I would have filmed my aggy neighbor's attempt to back his boat into his driveway this weekend. I had to wait 10 minutes while our resident genius tried to maneuver a relatively average size pontoon fishing boat into a 3 car wide driveway. In addition, his truck (an F-150) clearly did not have the requisite level of torque as we kept hearing the back wheels spin while trying to simply move the boat up the 6 inch grade difference between the street elevation and driveway. After about 10 minutes, the guy finally moved it enough to let me pass. My 15 year old daughter was with me (no pics) and was throwing some serious shade at the dude. My only response was sometimes the aggy jokes write themselves. When we came back from dinner, the truck and boat were parked on the side of the street. Somehow, he got it in the driveway over the weekend, but he must have done it at 3 in the morning to avoid further embarrassment.

Nice answer....clearly an arbitrage opportunity for a forward thinking football operation (which for Lone Star State NFL fans, neither the Cowboys or Texans are unfortunately). -
Goodnight....Jugdish......

I think this only proves that Rhule is not long for Baylor, no matter what. He'd be interested in the NFL, but what if an Auburn or a USC came calling (hell, even Penn State might be in play in a couple of years if Franklin continues to coach stupidly in big games). Rhule has no long term ties to Baylor or Texas which is what kept Teaff and Briles around. He's a good enough coach that deserves better than Rapelor.......

I have a simple rule when it comes to Aggies. If they mention their school affiliation or fandom within the first 5 minutes of meeting them unsolicited, they are immediately disregarded. Since I live in the Houston burbs, it is a pretty good rule to follow as you can easily distinguish between the cool folks and the regards.

At what point do NFL defensive coaches start looking to pick the brain of coaches like Jon Heacock at ISU and Todd Orlando for some spread busting tips. Heacock in particular has done a pretty good job coordinating defenses against the Air Raid philosophies in the Big 12 with what probably would be described as average talent. What they did to WVU this year was pretty amazing (they were fairly effective against Grier last year as well) and ISU probably did the best job of Big 12 teams in defending OU this year., Orlando did some great things last year (defending OU and OSU) and had some moments this year, though his team wasn't nearly as consistent and gave up lots of big plays. Surprised it hasn't happened yet...they seem to want to all get to the Lincoln's and Kliff's of the world, but not look at the counter strategy. -
Troof! Went on business a few times in the late aughts (06-09) and remember on my first trip walking around near the Wailing Wall with one of my co-workers and this group of young female IDF soldiers were flirting with us. Little disarming as they were all brandishing machine guns but definitely an experience. Tel Aviv is definitely a swinging town and I wished I had know about it (or had more Jewish friends that might have suggested going there) in my 20's. Folks in Israel definitely have a unique look on life (given where they live and the political realities of their situation) and in the Tel Aviv "bubble" as the locals call it, they definitely enjoy themselves when they can. Lot of beautiful Israeli girls there and with the influx of Eastern Europeans (particularly Russian and Ukranian Jews) adds a whole new element as well. Loved my experiences there and the people I met. We actually used to stay on the beach in a suburb called Herzilya, which is where a lot of the tech companies are (my client was a software company) and it was pretty cool...remember eating at some of the beachside restaurants where there was ample scenery. I'd recommend the beach, especially between say March and October (not sure when you said your trip was). Could not remember any names of any bars but I bet you can do some research before hand and find what is hip now. There was also a bad ass hummus place in downtown Tel Aviv that all the locals loved that is probably still there.

Herman said this exact thing at AFCA on Sunday. And he's right......not only does this apply to football, but to any sport, or organization, etc. Clemson has been especially good at this. Hopefully Herman & Co. could get to this level. This year showed the promise of that, but lets see how 2019 unfolds.

This is probably all that really matters. When you are driving a Yugo....a Hyundai is an upgrade even if you wanted a Lexus. Doesn't mean that OU's issues on defense completely go away but they probably won't give up 40 to terrible teams like Kansas anymore.

Forgot about that one.....How does the CFP view the potential gambling issues? Vegas tends to have somewhat cheaper flights that certainly to SFO or LA but know the hotels get really pricey for big events out there. Bet they will let the NFL settle in for a couple of years and see how that goes before making a run at the CFP. -
2019 Texas Football Season - "#8 Go Fuck Yourself Bitch"
PencilPusher replied to Xcalibur's topic in Football
My two cents at this very preliminary stage of the game Without knowledge of additions and departures for our team and others and the requisite injury and "knuckleheadedness" luck, the expectation should be that we are one of the 2 participants in the Big 12 championship game for 2019. We will have the best returning QB in the league (sorry OU fan-If Kyler plays football next year, it will be somewhere far away from Norman and he will get paid significantly for it) and have more than enough other pieces to make a strong run. Assuming our prospective NFL departures are minimal, here's how the schedule should break out: 50% Winning Probability OU - This is always as 50/50 game in my eyes unless the teams are super far apart in ability. OU will lose Kyler, Hollywood Brown, a good chunk of the line, etc. Still, they'll have talent and the QB battle will be interesting - Is Spencer Rattler as good as advertised? LSU - They'll be stocked with talent as always and this will be a real street fight. Both defenses have the ability to shut the other offense down. We seem to like street fights so I don't think we will fear LSU-the game will come down to executing at key times. Good Chance, ie. 60% Winning Probability ISU - Matt Campbell has proven to be a really good hire at ISU and as long as they can keep him, will have ISU competitive, especially in Ames. How will Brock Purdy's sophomore campaign go, especially without David Montgomery and perhaps Hakeem Butler. Defensively, they can cause struggles for a lot of the spread teams, but Texas plays with a physicality that ISU has struggled with the last 2 years, particularly on offense. Should be an interesting late season game. Should Win, but........67% Winning Probability OSU - This is our 2019 version of the 2018 TCU game - opponent we've struggled to beat, but have at home early in the season against a team breaking in a new QB. Will it be Spencer Sanders' time? Having Chuba Hubbard and Tylan Wallace will help whoever starts, but it might have been better for Sanders to have led the team to the 7-6 mark a la Mason Rudolph as a freshman. I expect growing pains again in Stillwater and good opportunity to actually beat OSU in Austin for the first time this decade (feels real dirty to say that). TCU - Only because it is on the road and TCU can still play defense. Their offense was a mess and Justin Rogers was never healed enough to get any playing time this season. Normally TCU has a bad season breaking in a QB but it comes together in year 2 (as with Trevone Boykin and Kenny Hill). However, Shawn Robinson never got it together, got hurt, and is now transferring. So TCU will hope that Justin Rogers is the real deal and the learning curve is quick, because I don't think they will have a lot of success with other options in 2019. Probable Wins.....75% Winning Probability WVa, Tech, Baylor - WVa and Tech will be breaking in new coaches and I have no idea what they will be. WVa loses several NFL players on offense and wasn't great defensively. Although in Morgantown and right before OU, feels like it should be a win. Tech is in Austin and don't feel like they will be much of a threat. Saw someone say they thought Charlie Brewer turned a corner against Vandy in the Texas Bowl. Not sure I would put that much stock into a singular performance (Trevor Knight anyone?) but even if he has, Baylor's defense is still putrid, they lose Mims (and Hurd I think) and its 50/50 Rhule is even the coach if he is also drawing interest from the NFL again this year. Put it in the ledger.......90+% Winning Probability LaTech, Rice, Kansas schools - No need to talk about LaTech & Rice. I think the Kansas schools will be the worst in the Big 12 next year. Les Miles will attempt to Make Kansas Interesting Again (MKIA) but that will take a least a year or 2....KU isn't winning in Austin next year. Not sure why Chris Klieman felt compelled to take the KSU job with the spectre of Bill Snyder still hanging over the program. If he doesn't have quick success, that gig could be a career killer. With the KSU game in Austin, limited talent, and no more purple wizard I don't see KSU being the threat in 2019 it once was. So that suggests a range of 9-12 wins. Don't see any game we can't win and seems like the floor is 9 and the ceiling is the roof! I'll say 10-2 for now and we will check back after the spring and fall to see if we feel any better or worse. -

Not surprising the ratings are like this - Sugar/Rose on New Years Day - good ratings. Other Bowls not on New Years Day - not as good. That will likely not change so either the CFP has to strong arm the Rose/Sugar games into moving (fat chance) or just deal with it. Below average stadium in a shitty location. Ask folks that went to Super Bowl L what they generally thought of the experience (The NFL took an "L" on that one). The bar was set so incredibly low for Houston the next year that Houston could have only done an average Super Bowl and still been significantly better. (As it was, Houston knocked it out of the park on LI). I was shocked when they announced it for Santa Clara and my guess is, it won't return. LA and PHX should be the only West host cities and given where college football is stronger, these should likely be the majority host cities for this game: Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Miami, New Orleans, Tampa. Travel needs to be a big consideration for this if they want ticket sales. -
My father in law and wife were agreeing with the announcers and couldn't understand why we would do that. Other than explaining that it was a great way to steal a possession in a game which we were double digit underdogs, I literally walked up to the TV and pointed out the difference in yardage between the 25 and the 40 and that effectively we only gave up a first down by doing it and it quite frankly was pretty low risk/medium to high reward. Neither of them are big risk takers so they still didn't agree with me...thankfully Anthony Wheeler and PJ Locke rendered the discussion moot a few plays later.

At the beginning of the year, I thought this was an extremely underrated pickup and thought he might get at least 200 touches. He closed the season at 187 touches and the one thing I can say about Tre is that I don't really recall a single play that he had a touch where I was like WTF are you doing? Outplayed both of his more highly regarded counterparts on the GA side last night. Also seemed to bring the right attitude and leadership to the running back room - sure hope Keontay took some notes as Ingram definitely needs to be better next year. Thanks Tre for a great season for us.....you are definitely a Longhorn for life!

Wondering if Whittington can be a Ramonce Taylor type player for us (without the off the field issues). Could play some in the backfield and out wide. Know earlier someone targeted Jake Smith in this role, but Whittington has been doing that for Cuero all season. Dude definitely needs to see the field next year (along with Smith). Need explosive plays in this offense.

butcher shops and/or meat markets. Generally though I stick to the spiral sliced pre-cooked since it is less work to smoke.

It's Lee Majors!! Santa, is there a back way out of this place?" "Of course there is Lee, but this is one Santa that's going out the front door."

S&P+ rankings: Overperformance or overcorrection?
PencilPusher replied to satyanash's topic in Football
I can't see the detailed advanced stat profiles, but I agree that 40 points seems too high, especially since only 2 teams eclipsed that mark all season against us (OU and WV) and it doesn't seem that Georgia's offense, despite being 3rd in S&P, is explosive enough or more importantly plays at the pace necessary to challenge that mark the way that OU and WV could. If we lose by 18, it would be in more of the 28-10 variety, not 40-22. If someone gave me TX +18 in a bowl pool, I'd take that all day as one consistent trend is that the S&P+ model has generally underrated TX ( and Herman teams in general for that matter) as an underdog the last couple of years. Even Connelly only half believes his model - Sugar Bowl: No. 5 Georgia (-12) 40, Texas 22 (Jan. 1, 8:45 p.m. ET, ESPN) Big 12 Championship aside, Tom Herman teams are generally very good as an underdog; that’s really the only reason to think this one ends up close. (Man, I don’t like these NY6 matchups very much.) -
Question on the ham. Are you smoking a whole ham or one of those spiralized hams? Can you smoke a spiral without it being too smoky? Spiral cut, which are precooked. For those you only need to smoke at around 225-250 for a couple of hours, until the internal temp gets up to 150 or so. That prevents it from getting "too smoky" as it were but adds a nice smoke flavor. It is really hard to mess up unless the smoker gets too hot. If you go the spiral route, get a plain one-do net get the pre-smoked ones. If you go with the whole ham, if it is uncooked you have to smoke for as long as you would a pork shoulder but again I've never had an issue with a pork shoulder being too smoky after 8 hours of slow cook. Happy smoking!
-
Smoked prime rib for the win. If your crew is more into ham, smoke that too. I will say I have converted my family to smoked hams after doing one for Easter this year. Coat the ham heavily with coarse ground pepper and you've got a smoked peppered ham.....unbelievable.

Damn.....my Marquis memory was watching the OJ chase there (we were there watching Rockets-Knicks game 5). The LIIT's helped ease a lot of pain back in the 90s. -
2018 Longhorns' Post-Season Achievements Thread

I think the proper answer here was to replace Reagor with LJH. Realize Reagor may have had slightly more stats, but there is no doubt that LJH was more impactful in games. Butler had almost the exact same stat line as LJH and his inclusion on this list is likely for that reason (more impactful on Iowa State's results). Of course the corches just probably handed off to the SID's who voted their guys and the top stat getters. -
