Had a good dad/bad dad moment today. Have spent a lot of time over the last few years teaching my older son to play. Taught him the basics and it went from letting him cover for me while I went to take a leak or while I was cooking to letting him play cheap sit and goes on his own. I'd gained enough trust in him to the point I would call him in if I was struggling in a tournament just to provide a breath of fresh air as our playing styles are a little different. He had gotten to the point where he was consistently cashing in sng's so I finally signed him up for his own online account and dropped some money in it and told him I'd give him advice if he asked but wouldn't say anything otherwise. So he's playing a $15 sit and go, 3 people are out and he raises with A9 spade, gets 2 callers. Flop comes 345 spade, he bets, one fold one call. Turn is 6 of hearts, son bets, other guy goes all in and has him covered and my son folds. I was being silent, letting him do his thing, he was doing well so far but I asked him why he hell he folded and he said "Because I think he hit the straight". And I said "Yes, that's what you wanted!!" I keep retracing my steps along the past few years, after all the time I spent teaching him and all the time I've let him play for me and let him play many, many times on his own and I somehow never taught him that a flush beats a straight.
