  1. Agreed. Although I would argue Trump and/or conspiracy theory thinking has simply replaced religious leaders and religion for a lot of these ignoramuses, and it's a lateral move at best. Jumping from one fantasy to another. What a way to live.
  2. They aren't doing shit without cash in the bank first. No self-respecting defense attorney would. This isn't a contingency "let's see how much we can squeeze the insurance co for" fee. The nutso part is that his mouthbreathing and largely poor support base is who is footing the bill.
  3. I'm glad they faked the entire thing so they didn't have to give this speech.
  4. Baptists, man. They're some of the nuttiest fuckers around, and that region of Texas is littered with them (that stretch from Stephenville to Waco may be the worst/most corrupt place in America. I won't even stop to take a piss in Waco. When a collective group of people can enable and cover up that much rape and child molestation (not to mention all of the other shenanigans) and have a majority of its members still pretend like it never happened and that the rest of the world is the fucked up place, you've got a cult that makes Koresh's tiny enclave look like child's play. Half of those fuckers are New Apostolic Reformation wack jobs and don't even realize it. And those TV home improvement twats are as bad as the rest of them. I know good people live in Waco. I don't know how they can stand it. I also know good people can be Baptists. I don't understand how they're so willfully blind.
  5. I don't care if Zuckernerd has been in training, or whatever. A fight between those two would just be a weak version of this:
  6. In our Austin neighborhood, it is. I can't speak to the insanity that is DFW. I can get over someone painting brick, especially if it's old and outdated. Painting natural limestone should be a crime.
  7. It fucking kills me how many transplants have moved into our neighborhood and turned their homes into some version of that look. There are a couple of assholes who painted their limestone exteriors white. That type of thing makes you too stupid to exist. New Yorkers, whaddayagunnado?
  8. This sounds aspirational (albeit misguided), but I don't see it as what is happening in practice. How do you explain the palaces some suburban kids enjoy, while Austin kids are lucky to have running water and air conditioning? Austin raises more revenue through taxation than any suburban school district could ever dream of. Don't say bond elections, as that's bullshit. Austin has those too, just to keep the lights on. Suburban school districts end up with a fuckton of revenue to take care of the basics so that they can afford to put bond initiatives before the public for things like football stadiums for 1/64 of the students to utilize. I'm just not buying that recapture only levels the playing field. It's clear on its face that this is not what is happening.
  9. My kids are at Lamar as well. Here's hoping for a better future at McCallum. It's a damn shame the way funding works has cut off AISD at its knees (and that the political children who run this state take joy in ensuring AISD, in particular, falls apart). Add weak leadership at AISD over the years (mainly in the form of well-intentioned do-gooders, who often cause more harm than good) and things compound into a complete mess. I suspect we'll see TEA take over the district before your son or my kids get to high school, and I don't know what to make of that other than Mike Morath would serve humanity better by picking up dog shit in public parks than running TEA. He makes Betsy Devoss look like a decent human being.
  10. I remember a classmate in Contracts 1 getting his asshole ripped wide open by the professor in front of the entire class for writing that on an exam.
  11. If we start taking down corrupt officials in small towns, where are the officials suspected of such activities in big towns supposed to disappear to? Let's think on this one before taking any serious action.
  12. Respectfully, read more closely. You weaken your arguments through poor comprehension. The failings of Christianity only sound like hyperbole to someone with their head in the sand, and that blindness is a cancer in this country. Less respectfully, go clean up your own house. It's where the bad shit is happening.
  13. Twas a joke. Cribbed from the late, great, Norm Macdonald. Of course the racism and child abuse are the worst part.
  14. Of course they don't read the Bible. Even Baptists, who pride themselves on Bible study, merely twist that shit into whatever they need it to be. This is nothing new, it's what Christianity has always been, whether it's priests, pastors, or assholes in the flock manipulating people through fear of the boogieman. However, the "no true Scotsman" bullshit that comes from many Christians (including many Southern Baptists) is almost as bad as the openly bigoted assholes in the club. It pisses me off more, in fact, as at least the bigots openly out themselves. And we all know hypocrisy is the worst part, not the racism and child abuse.
  15. This is at the heart of what is wrong with public discourse these days, and yes it's people of all stripes. It's manipulative nonsense and everyone, myself included, falls for it all the time. Fuck politics, religion, and designated hitters.
  16. It was on the top floor after leaving a shoe store. I don't want to write anything further in case any more comes of it. Thank you for the offer, but I can assure you he and his buddy remember the encounter well and will not likely ever forget it. The fucked up personality required to assault a kid is bad enough, but the stupidity to do it right in front of her father (who is not a marshmallow) is the part that has always stuck with me as the most insane. Dad strength is real. Don't fuck with it.
  17. I took my ten-year-old daughter to Barton Creek Square about six months ago for a pair of shoes. As we walked down one of the main pathways, a 20-something-year-old piece of shit walking with his buddy leans over and screams as loud as he can directly into my daughter's ear for no reason. A physical altercation ensued involving me and the two assholes. Security did eventually show up, but it was all over by that point. Malls are dead. Long live (outdoor) malls. I guess. Shit can happen anywhere, but that place is a dump and, like malls always have, attracts young people with nowhere else to go. And in any crowd of young people, you're going to find some troublemaking dipshits.
  18. lol - see my comment regarding whiny bitches. Holy shit. * I too work from home with kids, and you need a fucking vacation.
  19. Having operated with an entirely remote work force for well over a decade now, I've seen the good and the bad. Everyone on our staff has a minimum of a bachelor's, most with a terminal degree (the point being these are educated individuals). Over the years slightly fewer than half the hires have been able to handle working from home successfully. For some, it goes well for a year or two before excess liberties are taken and their work suffers. We've figured out how to pinpoint the traits that are more likely to lead to a positive outcome, so the numbers have improved over the years, but on the whole I'd say that WFH is great for about half of people, but a slight majority do not actually handle it well. The one thing I know for sure is that almost everyone thinks they're more efficient working from home than at the office, even when evidence points to the contrary. E.g., show me a parent of children under 15 who claims to be more efficient at home and I'll show you a liar (or at least someone lacking self-awareness). Generally speaking, management tends to be willfully obtuse and employees tend to be whiny bitches. Everyone on all sides is so fucking entitled that we're headed down a path that will lead to misery and degradation for all, no matter where you park your ass to "work".
  20. While I would love to find a way to get rid of dead weight in all of the conferences, relegation is based on wins and losses. That might lead to something none of us would be interested in seeing happen. No way a down year for Bama, or UT, would result in a cash cow being relegated - networks would never agree to that kind of set up. The only way to get rid of dead weight would be to form an entirely new conference, and the heavy branding of the SEC likely prevents that from happening any time soon.
  21. So much bullshit posted on twitter. No one knows a damn thing, and we wont' either until some type of press conference or interview happens after this meeting. It would be shocking if the PAC actually gets everyone to sign a GOR, and should render any decision maker involved toxic for any future job openings. AU would be stupid to stay even if Oregon and Washington stick around. They're clearly not in for the long haul no matter what they do now.
