  1. Exactly. That would be a scenario where I could see some weird voodoo coming into play. At this stage, I think they took a big sigh of relief last night and won't be nearly as excited for the game on Friday. Even the fan base is deflated after the heightened expectations coming into the season. And honestly, they were a decent offensive coordinator away from having a great season, making this game a much more important one for both teams. It took him about half the year to realize he had a future NFL stud running back on the team that the offense should run through. It was bizarre to watch, but that's what they get for insisting on hiring an air raid coordinator. EDIT TO ADD: Their interior D-line in no joke at all, and will cause some issues on Friday, but this year's Tech team just hasn't put it together offensively to be a real threat in this game. They have a second-string QB with a gunslinger mentality but without the skills to back it up. Their o-line can run block but are terrible in pass protection. Receiving corp is the worst they've had since Mike Leach stepped foot on campus. No separation, ever. The larger issue is the OC isn't experienced enough to make adjustments based on situational football. He's just barely out of diapers and the only mentor he had was Kingsbury (lol).
  2. I don't think Tech will be as hyped up for this game as some think. Their expectations coming into this season were that this game would be a deciding factor in who goes to the championship game. After some terrible coaching followed by tons of QB injuries, they're thrilled (and surprised) to be bowl-eligible as of yesterday. This will be a letdown game, of a sort, for them. The Longhorns will roll over them with ease and the game will be over by early in the third.
  3. We can't even hire more lifeguards. It's certainly not a lack of tax collection causing these "shortages".
  4. I wish they mandated them, but it's effortless for the morons to opt out of it. They must sign an affidavit that they didn't vaccinate their kids for "Reasons of Conscience." That's it. That's all they have to do. Texas ranks among the highest in the nation for unvaccinated kids (and while I doubt a proper study could be done to prove it, I suspect we also rank among the highest for dumbasses per capita). This is why we have outbreaks of things like measles. If you think your public school kids are in an environment full of vaccinated children, think again. Only certain private schools truly mandate and enforce vaccinations.
  5. Also, you know, kids. School and all. All due respect, yadda yadda yadda, but this particular type of theater needs to end.
  6. A lot of it depends on where you are, including down to which driver's route you live on. UPS was absolute dog shit at our last house, but it was the driver. He was replaced, and things magically improved. We live at the end of a large neighborhood next to a green belt, where people come to dump all kinds of things (I once found a stolen car still running in gear jammed up on a tree). We see piles of Amazon packages with some regularity. Sometimes it's porch pirates dumping loot they don't want, but sometimes it's just a bunch of unopened boxes, where the driver clearly just said fuck it and dumped out whatever was left to go party or whatever. I've acted as a delivery driver for our neighborhood more than a couple of times. FedEx, I haven't had many problems with lately. Based on this thread I'll start preparing for the worst.
  7. For anyone reading/participating in this thread, for whatever reason, Nathan Fielder's new series on Showtime, "The Curse" may be of interest.
  8. Just another example of why the Grammy's are meaningless. They'll nominate anyone for just about anything. I think their strategy is that if they nominate enough people, the nominees will convince friends and family to actually tune in to watch or care in the slightest. Viral marketing, baby!
  9. Lake Travis, dude. This probably doesn't crack the top ten list of terrible shit those entitled little twats did to each other in a locker room. For anyone considering raising your children out there, I have two words: Baker Mayfield.
  10. Based on the thousands of them they ensure remain alive and go to homes that can't handle them in this city, it seems only fair that they deal with one at work all day.
  11. Wife is going to start a ketamine treatment for depression next month. I'm really hoping it helps.
  12. It's literally all of them.
  13. You would think some form of adverse possession would kick in at some point, but I can't be the first to consider that notion so I assume it has been tried and failed.
  14. My group chats seem boring compared to these stories. Maybe I should rethink my policy of refusing any communication with other parents on my kids' sports teams.
  15. I think you're correct. I'm also wondering why a youngin' like yourself is even reading this thread. All of this will be relatable for you in another couple of decades.
  16. So much for my plan to just ignore how old I'm getting. Thanks a lot, fellas.
  17. Well put. We had a couple of band directors and countless coaches in addition to the youth ministers, priests, and preachers dipping their pens in the teenage ink. The ag department guys were also particularly bad according to the scuttlebut. In those days very few suffered any consequences beyond maybe moving on to a new job if the parents found out and raised a stink. There was a band director who taught at my old high school long after my time there who made the FBI most wanted list, however. I believe he still on the run today after twenty years or so.
  18. Don't worry, everyone will be on a bike soon. You just have to wait for it.
  19. If your taint ain't bruised before eating at Shoney's . . .
  20. Pandas must do well in the tech industry.
  21. Took the kids to GWL in Grapevine for my niece's birthday party seven or so years ago. Never again. NEVER. That has to be the worst fucking place on the planet, and yes I'm fully aware of at least some of the really really terrible places out there. You can fly the family to Florida and spend a weekend at Disneyworld (not that I recommend that hell hole either) for less than a weekend at GWL, and what do you get for your money? A bunch of drunk redneck morons hanging out in the hallways getting shitfaced drunk while their kids destroy the rooms after a day of breathing in the foulest air on earth in the water area. All of this is followed by a respiratory virus that knocks out your family for a week or two after you get home. My wife referred to it as white trash Disneyworld. I told her Disneyworld is white trash Disneyworld. Great Wolf Lodge is something different. Something much worse. Something that will eventually kill us all. I would rather breathe the current air in Shepherd, TX than breathe the air inside a GWL ever again.
  22. I thought pandas were too stoned to reproduce, or is that koalas?
  23. Is that the Electric Grandmother herself in that sketch? I don't think I ever picked up on that before, but it adds a nice layer. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083876/ EDIT TO ADD: I think I'm wrong and confusing actresses who were old forty years ago.
  24. Good for you. Blind faith is at the root of this problem, particularly blind faith in church leadership. The Catholics and the Baptists don't have a complete monopoly on child abuse, but they seem to be the worst offenders in terms of volume and I think it's directly related to the culture of these institutions that promotes not asking questions, blindly following leadership, and the general grooming of their members that no matter what is going on or how much their conscience may be screaming otherwise, whatever happens, it's the Lord's work (and his ways are mysterious, you know, so don't question it).
