  1. Now seems like a good time to revisit this classic...
  2. If he's not a hero I don't know who is. RIP.
  3. I've never gotten the appeal of that show. Every time I've tried to watch it I get completely annoyed with the characters and the writing and I can't finish the episode.
  4. It's not just the enlisted who support Trump. This is anecdotal, but my brother-in-law, a combat decorated and highly ranking Navy and Air Force (yes, both) officer and pilot (now retired), and his 25-year-old son, a West Point grad and Army Ranger who's seen combat in Afghanistan and is currently serving in Iraq, are both big-time Trump supporters. In fact, my nephew was wounded in Afghanistan and spent time at Walter Reed recovering. While there, he was invited by Trump himself to attend the inauguration, which he did along with his family. I've been around a lot of my nephew's West Point and Army officer buddies who have also voiced their support of Trump. I don't understand it either, considering things like Trump's draft dodging and disparaging comments of McCain and the Gold Star family, etc. One thing I do get, though, is that guys like my nephew who are regularly in combat situations appreciate the fact that Trump has increased spending on things they need to help them survive (e.g. body armor), and has changed the rules of engagement, which had gotten extremely restrictive under Obama -- to the point that it was endangering soldiers' lives. So that part, I understand. Otherwise, I don't get the love for Trump. I also think, as others have mentioned, there is a lingering notion that began in the Vietnam era that Dems/Libs are anti-military/aren't patriotic/don't love their country as much as Reps/conservatives. Sometimes, that belief is passed down from one generation to the next, as is the case with my bro-in-law and nephew.
  5. Yep. He talks about that in The Unforeseen, an excellent documentary about the development around Barton Springs (Redford was an executive producer on the film). If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
  6. One of my favorite Zep songs. +rep.

    Led Zeppelin

Grew up in the area and bought countless used CDs at that place.
  8. Holy shit, I thought the same thing. Lulz.

    Led Zeppelin

Same here. Bought mine at Tower Records on the Drag. Still have it (and Box Set 2 as well).
  10. That, and the Purple Heart was sort of a no-brainer considering his injuries.
  11. Wasn't there a TV movie or mini-series based on it in the 80s? I vaguely remember that.
  12. Nailed it. I'm a right leaning guy, but I'm very impressed with Beto. "Refreshing" is a great way to characterize him, for me. Everything is so negative and partisan these days, but he is positive and talks about actually serving Texans and addressing problems, without constantly pointing fingers at the other side. I wish there were more candidates like him, R or D.
  13. I only wish I'd taken a picture like the one of Gideon. However, Quaid probably would've caused a scene at that point.
  14. Still works for me, unfortunately. Actually made it to 1:35, but only because I passed out about 30 seconds in and came to about a minute later. I think my body was employing some sort of defense mechanism.
  15. About 7-8 years ago I was having dinner/drinks at a bar in East Austin with my then girlfriend. We sit down and I immediately notice Dennis Quaid is sitting at a table with a few other people directly behind my gf. I look at him for a few seconds and then say to my gf, "don't turn around, but Dennis Quaid is sitting right behind you." Well, it's a small place so the table is pretty close and apparently he either heard me, or saw me looking at him, or both. So when I look back at him he is giving me the angry Dennis Quaid stare. Kinda like this, only angrier: And for some reason, it just cracks me up that Dennis Quaid is staring at me like he wants to punch me. My gf says "why are you laughing?" and I'm like "I think Dennis Quaid wants to kill me." /csb
  16. About 16-17 years ago, I was working for a midsize software company in Austin. We'd just hired this product development guy. He seemed a little weird/awkward, but no more so than your average tech nerd. Nice enough guy. One day he tells me he's running for Lt Gov on the Texas LP ticket. I thought he was joking. He wasn't. /csb
  17. The pig says "my wife is a slut."
  18. Ah. Thank you. I was trying to figure out if there was a connection to Seinfeld (my original reference). EDIT: And although I'm an old, I do know who Andre 3K is.
  19. I'm an old so I'm afraid you're going to have to explain this one to me.
