  1. Something doesn't seem right about that. I'm guessing the accelerator got stuck or the brakes went out. Also, am I going to hell for laughing at the repeated "OH OOOHH AAHH AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!"? I mean, it says no one was seriously hurt.
  2. I'm 46. There was actually quite a bit more graphic nudity and sex in mainstream movies in the 70s & 80s than in today's mainstream movies. Hollywood was more libertine in general in the 70s, and the raunchy teen sex comedy became a staple of the 80s. Slasher flicks with very graphic violence also became hugely popular in the 80s. TV is the opposite, however. The adult content & themes in today's primetime network TV shows never could have been shown on TV in the 80s or prior. Seinfeld and Friends were two shows that played a big role in changing that in the early 90s.
  3. This. He merely thought about it and then made the correct moral decision not to. If he had, I don't think it wouldn't have gone over well even back then.
  4. I don't know, dude, it doesn't say. You asked me to give an example of someone who had to change their show to be politically correct. I gave you an example: John Cleese says he had to stop making race-related jokes. I am sure there are countless other examples out there. The Salon article includes quotes from 10 comedians commenting on the issue (not counting Seinfeld) who I assume have had to make changes to their acts, since they seem to care enough about it to complain. If you think you know more about it than they do, that's cool. But I'm going to give them more credence since it's how they make their living.
  5. Well, here's one for example, which I posted earlier... I think John Cleese explains pretty eloquently above why he should be able to "get away with it." As Seinfeld says, it's "anti-comedy":
  6. Ah, public transportation. Don't you love it?
  7. Huh?? Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is streaming content and it has been wildly successful. Let me know the next time Seinfeld, Rock, Chappell, Gaffigan, etc have trouble selling out shows. Like I said, stand-up ain't dead, but it may be dying a slow death due to political correctness.
  8. I completely disagree that stand up is "mostly dead." I'm not sure what you're basing that on. It may not be what it once was, but the big name comedians still sell out shows, there are still HBO comedy specials watched by millions. It's still how many comedic actors get their start (see SNL). However, if it is dying a slow death, I'm going to agree with the professionals (Seinfeld, Chris Rock, et al) regarding the causes. They should know.
  9. Probably why Bill Burr isn't a household name like the others I mentioned. As for Seinfeld, this is from the Salon article.
  10. Some guys named Seinfeld, Cleese, and Rock, et al, would disagree with you. Jerry Seinfeld: Political Correctness Will Destroy Comedy 10 famous comedians on how political correctness is killing comedy: “We are addicted to the rush of being offended”
  11. Oh he understands it. He's just betting his base doesn't (and he's right).
  12. Yep. PC and snowflakery have killed comedy. I'm just glad I grew up in a time when movies were still funny.
  13. Watched this last night. I thought it was excellent. Jason Clarke was outstanding.
  14. Yeah, Stephen King probably shouldn't be criticizing someone else's looks.
  15. Yeah, this. Plenty of stories of his dickishness on display in Austin bars & restaurants (including at least one I can remember that was covered in local media). And if you know anyone who's had to work around him, as I do, they will tell you first hand how poorly he treats people.
  16. Dog Whistler's Mother Twig and Berries
  17. Sounds like Kavanaugh was really going out on a limb on that one.
  18. At least they got the beard thing right, for the most part.
