  1. Anybody tried it? If you lose a hand, you keep doubling the bet and you are eventually back to even because "you won't lose them all." Skim the profit when you win a hand, and only use profits for splits and doubles. What could go wrong?
  2. There was a plot twist to this too that I'm not sure how it finally resolved, maybe one of our Surly lawyers can answer. Jeremy knew his goose was cooked. So he and his wife filed some kind of "partition" agreement and he filed for personal BK the very next day or something like that. I'm sure a plan to avoid creditors but can you do that? https://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-5th-circuit/1780808.html
  3. Was the defendant's name Jeremy Wiggains? He was a childhood friend but I lost track of him 30 years ago. He owned a used car dealership in Dallas selling "high line" stuff. Rolls, Bentley, Ferrari, etc. He got busted and house raided by the FBI about 5 years ago. Something about selling the cars twice - once to Park Place and also to his actual customer. Not sure how he ever expected to get away with it. Cash probably was tight for a couple months and he found a "creative" way to stay afloat until it finally caught up to him. Edit: just saw the other posts so different guy. But still: https://www.dallasobserver.com/news/park-place-motorcars-says-preston-hollow-man-business-partners-stole-dozens-of-luxury-cars-7127662
  4. About ten years ago my wife no pics served on a Travis county jury that awarded $25 million to Texas Disposal Systems in a civil case vs Waste Management. At the time it was the largest civil verdict in Travis county history, maybe still is. /csb
  5. It appears we have a Surly consensus. Has this ever happened?
  6. Update - I do have the schedule option you describe to close the door. My bad. But my remote lockout feature not available.
  7. Make sure you'll get the features you want with a retrofit. I have a Liftmaster smart opener with the app and all that baked in. I don't see a way to set schedules. The feature I would like to see is a schedule that locks out remotes at 10pm or whatever. Only way to open the door is from "inside the house!" (whatup Scream) or via the app. But nope.
  8. How much impact does shingle color have on attic temps? My newish neighborhood has a bunch of dark gray roofs. If vented properly, no big deal? You don't see too many lighter color roofs even in places like Arizona so I'm guessing the delta must be fairly small.
  9. Half question, half advice. If the case is pretty open and shut like OP's appears to be, how much negotiating leverage does he have? Giving up 30-40% of your case to a trial lawyer seems awfully rich. If the insurance company has already accepted liability like he says, could he find a lawyer to paper the deal for 10-15% - or better yet, a flat fee?
  10. Now a serious reply. Get a metronome app for your phone. 75 BPM is a good starting point, but adjust to what feels good. I like 72. Take away on one tick and make contact on the next, regardless of length of putt. Practice for an hour, then take away the metronome and practice another hour, but try to "hear" the ticks in your mind. Focusing on the ticks will take away the yips. Good luck and report back.
  11. Putts only break one way if you have two putters. You've eliminated 50% of the challenge. Best value club in the bag.
  12. Update. Used Quotacy.com and it was a good experience. Policygenius also good but not quite as personal. Quotacy gave me a dedicated rep and Policygenius didn't so I'd recommend them for that reason alone really. Everything else was easy. Ethos had weird carriers with low coverages unsuitable for Surly 1%. Lemonade flat out denied me.
  13. Trying Policygenius which seems good so far, but Quotacy.com is the current leader in the clubhouse. We'll see how it works out.
  14. Anybody bought a term life policy lately? Curious if there was some kind of Kayak/Hotwire type place out there for this, or if you just called a few companies and picked the best rate?
  15. My old house was built in the 60's and when the plasma era arrived there was no place to put a TV other than above the fireplace. I was concerned about this same issue. Built a big ass fire and put a thermometer where the TV would eventually be to test and I don't think it raised by even one degree. Total non-issue. But if you're concerned then run the same test. To the "poor placement" folks they aren't necessarily wrong but sometimes it is the only option. At the minimum, get a mount that will tilt the TV down a few degrees for viewing. It never bothered my neck in the years we owned the house.
  16. We have a Peloton that is being neglected. PM if you want it and I'll see if it can be made available for sale. Can't promise anything though because irrational women.
  17. I invited Renewal by Andersen of Austin to my old house to quote replacements. It's been years and I forget the quote but it seemed outrageous. Told the dude I'd think about which pissed him off and he immediately launched into high pressure sales mode. Offered a discount if I signed right there on the spot, to which I replied that I don't do business that way. He then proceeded to tell me that they didn't even really need my business and wouldn't honor the discount even if I did call him back because there really isn't anything to think about. Told him to get fucked and swore I'd tell everyone I know that their sales practices are fucked up and to never do business with Renewal by Andersen of Austin. So there you go. Fuck Renewal by Andersen of Austin.
  18. My 8 yo has big brother envy and wants some Airpods to keep up. Not spending Apple money on an 8 yo though. Amazon is littered with Chinese knockoff Airpods with fake reviews, so I turn to the Surl. Anybody got a recommendation for a good set of these things?
  19. No, it's in good hands. But the dude that put it back on the map has moved on.
  20. The dude that put the Mobberly Bodacious back on the map was hitting the sauce pretty hard and finally it caught up to him. He had groomed a successor for the joint but basically ghosted on him and his family. He now works for Franklin in Austin after rehab stints. Texas Monthly wrote a piece on it recently - too lazy to find the link tho.
