  1. That's fair. Personally I want to see Gillibrand and others like her loaded up into a Space X rocket, both for being bigots and just for their pure stupidity.
  2. I think Fantana is somewhat conflating New York Democrats with “liberals.” Yeah, a lot of liberals have some degree of anti-Muslim bias just because for most it’s still an “other” that they don’t have much experience with, but there’s nothing that your ordinary liberal loves more than to think they’re multicultural and tolerant so that limits it quite a bit. But a lot of New York Dems aren’t even liberal, they’re conservatives who happen to be Dems because in New York that’s the only real game in town. That leads to some confusion with New York liberal politicians as well who cater for those conservatives’ votes (I’m thinking Gillibrand here), but the real anti Muslim shit in New York isn’t coming from liberals.
  3. I was just joking about the time Ana did a “maybe Trump will pass Medicare for all!”
  4. When did Ana hack Stassney’s account?
  5. Didn't the senate make it worse in many respects?
  6. I'd honestly rather see Beto run again, and I don't really want to see that at all.
  7. Oh good, now nobody will hear from him until two weeks before Election Day again.
  8. I think that analysis is backward, though. When it was mostly meathead and/or incel shit it wasn't serious. It was the buy in and promotion from the mainstream media that gave the backlash legitimacy in the eyes of much of the public. There's a reason that conservative activists are always trying to get the New York Times to cover issues, and not just to cover them but to frame their coverage in a particular way. Steve Bannon, Chris Rufo, etc. understand the legitimizing impact that has for their propaganda well beyond the number of people who actually read the Times. For this, the elite media circles didn't even need to be pushed, they sprinted to endorse the backlash.
  9. What I find interesting about this in particular is that it's not new. I'm nearly 40 and by the time I was in high school women were largely competitive with men in school and most jobs. The exception that held out the longest was at the executive level. Me Too really scared the shit out of executives, particularly media executives, and they manufactured a backlash that has pushed us back 50+ years, all so they can grope women at the office.
  10. Don't worry, they'll make that impossible too. The dead giveaway was the express exception from their ruling for challenges to agency action. They might as well have simply written "notwithstanding anything to the contrary, Republican district judges may grant nationwide injunctions if a Democrat ever manages to retake the White House and Republican groups challenge anything they try to do."
  11. The people still saying "the Trump supporters I'm thinking of are decent people, not racists" misunderstand racism. They think racist and they think someone in a Klan outfit. That's not how racism manifests itself for most people, though. It's more subtle than that. I posted this a year ago: Tens of millions of white Americans will say "I don't have a racist bone in my body" while rationalizing away every oppressive act inflicted on minorities and every preferential act or status granted to people like them. At this point you can't even say they don't recognize the racist dog whistles as a defense. There are no dog whistles anymore, it's pure uncut explicit racism pretty much 24/7 from GOP officials. These seemingly decent people may not love that, but they tolerate it and vote for it because they fundamentally don't believe that all men and women are created equal and they think electing people who try to make that the case is worse than electing nazis.
  12. I know plenty of guys like this and I've given up arguing with them about the perceived leftward shift. It's not a useful assessment of anything, it's always either (or both) (1) performative independence (dudes love this shit), and/or (2) ignorance based on a poor media diet and an inability to understand how media focus and framing affects an audience's perception.
  13. This is overly simplistic, but does fairly describe a certain part of the Democratic establishment. It's wrong on a few things, most notably the establishment's support for austerity. We've seen a huge shift away from austerity politics among establishment Dems since Obama's presidency. There's literally only a handful of elected Congressional Dems who might still buy in to the austerity shit, and that's because they're dumb enough to genuinely believe it's necessary, economically speaking. The true part (and the part that's really at the heart of what's wrong with the party) is that it's a party of consultants and careerists (we could actually use more opportunists in the Democratic party). The consultants keep their status within the party by insisting on the importance of polls, focus groups, etc. to winning, and the careerists think the point of the party is a jobs program for good soldiers. Those who feel they've waited their turn react more negatively to someone they see as skipping the line than they do to anything Republicans do, because beating Republicans is secondary to maintaining their own place within the party.
  14. We need a moratorium on drunk arguing on surly. If you're gonna drunk post, go post some tits in NSAA or something. Getting loaded and coming here to bitch at people for not being big enough supporters of the military or whatever is pathetic.
  15. Did you graduate high school?
  16. Yeah but Barrett loves to sound sane in oral arguments then rule with Alito.
  17. THIS is the modern Dred Scott.
  18. I'm gonna need the Glorious Kahn Pritzker to get creative. He can't let Newsom be the only Dem publicly fighting this administration.
  19. What the fuck are you even talking about?
  20. Classic Rex, never beating those illiteracy allegations.
  21. Totally not a conservative skipper isn’t just following dear leader’s marching orders.
  22. Day games are awesome and anyone who disagrees can go to hell.
  23. Skipper, where were you on January 6, 2021?
  24. It’s very funny that skipper got mad at me for calling him a conservative when he’s here downplaying how fucking weird and infantile Trump is.
  25. They're ruining "daddy" for all the well meaning perverts out there. Truly, nothing is safe from them.
