  1. Virtually nobody doing anything in front of a camera or a microphone for a wide audience is 100% honest. Literally nobody doing it for a right wing audience is remotely honest.
  2. A thing I think about all too often these days is that the founding fathers, mostly slaveowners, knew slavery was evil. They knew it was a deep moral stain on themselves and the country. They benefited from it greatly and most weren't willing to make the personal sacrifice that giving up their "property" would require of them, but the fact that chattel slavery was evil was a widely held understanding. Yeah, there were assholes who didn't really care about the morality of it at all because they got theirs, but nobody really thought it was morally Good. Over the next ~90 years, southerners spent a great amount of mental and emotional energy coming up with all sorts of rationalizations for why slavery was actually good and proper and in accordance with God's plan and the natural order of things. That's the function that Charlie Kirk served.
  3. This is going to end up being like that aggy who carved the backward B in her face.
  4. Gotcha, we're agreed. A lot of people seem to be saying it in a "well he was actually privately a good guy and his public persona shouldn't matter" way that makes no damned sense.
  5. I don't understand the point of people saying stuff like this.
  6. They’re absolutely trying to make him a martyr, but they say the same shit they’re saying now all the time. They say it when the green m&m gets a makeover, when Cracker Barrel modernizes their logo, when they chip a nail or get the wrong order in the drive through, etc. It really diminishes the impact of their propaganda when they’ve got nowhere new to go when something like this happens.
  7. Right. As a reminder for the DT posters who have the memory of a goldfish, this was a fucking GOP senator (from Utah!) when a Republican assassinated an elected Democrat and her husband and shot another: One side wants violence. The other just wants people to be able to live their lives and see a doctor if they need to.
  8. Patel was pretty obviously just reading shit on twitter and when they arrested that first guy thought they had the shooter and posted. It's not like he's got a functioning organization reporting to him.
  9. Alright, Sephiroth, whatever you say.
  10. So it seems like a DT poster threatening civil war got the DT thread nuked from orbit.
  11. Who here has celebrated Kirk's murder?
  12. Name the victims. If there are hundreds, it shouldn't be hard.
  13. Which side has elected representatives cheer on, retweet shitty memes about, and otherwise promote political violence against their enemies?
  14. To anyone who needs to be told, do not fedpost. Do not post anything you don't want spread around right wing media. Keep your shit to yourself.
  15. We should round them all up, line them up, and let someone illegally detained by ICE kick the shit out of them.
  16. The Presidente is fucking incredible. I think it's mostly just that it's so hot in the DR that any cold beer is amazing, but that might've been the best beer I've ever had.
  17. When the liberal backlash against this klan bullshit hits and we're all saying "you made us do this," I hope you remember this post.

Man, a billion dollar plane bribe just doesn't buy you much these days, huh?

Who, specifically, are you talking about?
  20. Might as well go ahead and get the Chris Hansen gif ready.
  21. Using Alan Dershowitz as your example is some incredible work.
  22. They do some good legal work representing people who need it, but their public issue advocacy is just right wing propaganda dressed up to look like an actual ideological commitment to free speech.
  23. FIRE literally counts them and has to overcategorize (i.e. equate students protesting with actually cancelling a speaker's appearance) because there are so few.

We’re going to need a truth and reconciliation commission that gives the six republicans on the court the option to to go prison or resign and spend the rest of their days doing yard work with day laborers to atone for their crimes.

Even the nazis thought they had to pass an enabling act to give Hitler emergency powers. John Roberts and the other conservatives on SCOTUS have decided they don't even need that to legitimize their dictatorship.
