  1. That's all of them.
  2. Yes, that was my sarcasm (which probably made more sense in the context of that thread).
  3. A very simple illustration of what it sounds like she missed (or, more likely, intentionally ignored): There's a lot of people who are handsomely rewarded for coming up with bullshit to justify Republican economic policies that are intended to protect the status quo and further enrich the wealthy. Entire think tanks like, for example, the Manhattan Institute, exist to do nothing else. Let's see where Jessica Riedl works... oh shit, would you look at that, she's a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute!
  4. If you want to actually learn about things, Freakonomics isn't really the best place to go.
  5. Sidis makes several thoughtful posts full of really substantive analysis about issues with college admissions Ana: "oh you're just being antisemitic!"
  6. If literally any of the conspiracy theories about the CIA were true they’d have killed him long ago. So I guess that’s evidence that actually DOGEing the CIA is probably one of the least damaging things they’ll do.
  7. You can always just send your kids to aggy if you're worried UT is too liberal.
  8. I'm curious what they will mobilize to do and what effect they think it would have.
  9. But but but but that's only because Dems did identity politics first! It's not like white supremacist patriarchy has been the cornerstone of conservative politics for the entirety of American history.
  10. I doubt it will, but it seems like it'll probably be more effective than repeatedly validating Republican propaganda.
  11. I mean, if you're a terrible student with average grades and a 1460 you won't get accepted into Texas, Michigan, Cal, UCLA, the ivies, etc., but you'll get in just about anywhere else. Don't ask me how I know that.
  12. I neg rep Republican propaganda. Stop peddling it.
  13. You got a source for this?
  14. Why are you posting this like it's new? Have you happened to see what's happened to Gavin's popularity in the month or so since this podcast aired? The only reason that undecided voters think trans girls in sports matters is that both Republicans and Democrats keep fucking telling them it matters. It's as much on you for validating Republican propaganda as it is on the Republicans peddling it. You know what will tell those voters it doesn't matter? When a Republican brings it up, just fucking ask why they're so desperate to give a pedophile a job looking under teenage girls' skirts.
  15. I think they communicated to voters as well as they possibly could have that they wanted to stop immigration and had negotiated a very "strong" immigration bill and that Trump killed it. So the question is how did their communication fail? On this issue, I don't think the failure was in their ability to communicate how seriously they took immigration. I think the failure was in the decisions they made years before to give in to Republican framing on immigration as negative, which contributed to a drastic change in public sentiment against immigration.
  16. This. Trans girls in sports is literally an invented issue. More people are struck by lightning each year than compete against trans girls in sports. And yet several posters seem to think Dems (who ran from the subject like a fucking plague while trying to focus on kitchen table issues) made it a "cornerstone" of their campaign. This is how fucking insidious right wing propaganda has become. This is how effective it is. And every time a Republican runs an anti-trans ad and someone like Colin Allred responds with "no I don't want boys playing in girls sports," that's the response the Republicans wanted. Why the fuck do you people think Republican pundits keep encouraging Dems to keep giving that response?!
  17. Name one Democrat running for a statewide or national office who has ever made identity or social issues a cornerstone of their platform.
  18. Have you considered trying to engage with reality? Biden ramped up deportations to record levels and he and Kamala (and all other Dems running in 2024) ran as fast as they could from trans issues. And yet millions of people, including you, believe otherwise. Why do you think that is? It sure as shit has nothing to do with what the candidates actually said or did.
  19. No. My point is that issues largely don't even matter. It's not a matter of turning the dial left or right, because there isn't a center. People don't go into the voter booth and look at a spreadsheet of issues a candidate supports and opposes and choose the candidate that aligns with their preferences the most. The overwhelming majority of potential voters in each election won't even choose between candidates, they'll choose the candidate from the party they prefer or they'll stay home. What's left, probably no more than 10% of voters, have completely incoherent politics and vote based on vibes. Do they really like a candidate or at least hate the other? So campaigns are about two things: 1) turning out your base, and 2) winning the undecideds. You hurt both goals by trying to triangulate around some imagined optimum collection of "centrist" or "moderate" positions. That shit turns off your base and gets a lot of them to stay home and it tells the undecided voters that you don't really believe in anything. That you don't care about anything. Undecided voters love "change" candidates because those candidates give the impression that they'll care enough about something to get shit done. Issues largely don't matter, how you message them does. The Dems are absolute dogshit at messaging them.
  20. Of course I'm not fucking happy with the results. I'm saying that the shitty results are the results of your proposed solution because the campaign strategists that run political campaigns for Democrats have been doing what you propose since fucking 1992.
  21. I'm so sick of this shit. Dems run a centrist platform every fucking time and every fucking time some fucking Republicans go "well I just couldn't vote Dem because they ran on a radical leftist platform and they need to come back to the center" and every fucking time literally millions of people buy that bullshit and regurgitate it online. If you're not paying any attention to what candidates are saying or doing, stop offering uninformed opinions about what they need to fucking do. Jesus christ, imagine reading Bret Stephens and thinking he's offered anything of value. That's literally the opposite of his job.
  22. …you’re certainly misreading something.
  23. I gotta say, seeing someone who supports Palestinians so consistently stan for Bari Weiss, who has spent her entire adult life trying to oppress Palestinians, just to disagree with me is fucking depressing. They deserve better.
