  1. Though it's not obviously religious, there's something very calvinist about the whole thing from certain leftists. It's basically the same "we're irredeemable sinners who deserve cosmic punishment" as you see from a lot of right wing nutjobs.
  2. It's kindergarten level rhetoric and you should be embarrassed to be persuaded by it. You actually do get to vote on all of those things, indirectly. Every one of us votes on candidates for various offices and the output of those whom we elect is absolutely the product of our votes. If enough Americans didn't want those things we wouldn't have them. All you're actually whining about is that the left hasn't won elections despite its political incompetence. You're part of the fucking problem.
  3. Blaming the US for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is not “accurate.”
  4. Come the fuck on man, you've got to have a better bullshit detector. ETA: "Syria takes reveal a person's character" never fails:
  5. NYT is just blatantly ripping off Anna Merlan and Tim Marchman's reporting.
  6. Since September 1st, I've literally only watched Astros games and football games and I've seen the same Cruz ad probably 50+ times. I've seen Allred's ad I think twice in that same span.
  7. He’ll decide action is needed exactly the moment most other people decide it isn’t.
  8. Imagine being a grown man and deciding every day “yup, I’m gonna continue to make my whole deal just being a contrarian asshole about every possible topic.”
  9. Another thing about Harris and Klebold that the media intentionally ignored in the 90s is that they were very obviously Nazis. It’s wild that so much media coverage ended up being about what music they listened to and not about how they were obviously huge fans of Hitler.
  10. It sure doesn't seem to be consistent with the recent SCOTUS ruling in the Colorado ballot case.
  11. Before anyone gets any ideas, I'm gonna file a bar complaint against the next lawyer I see say something like "the only acceptable remedy is at the ballot box."
  12. That's not what it says though. It says "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..." I don't really disagree with your interpretation of the language using today's grammatical rules, but language then just didn't work the same way it does now. Grammar in colonial America was a mess. And it's very clear from the actual history of firearm regulation in America that nobody interpreted the 2nd Amendment that way.
  13. They knew that, but it wasn't the point. Direct election of the President of the United States simply wasn't logistically possible in 1787, they had to come up with something else. And they couldn't. They got to near the end of the convention and hadn't figured it out, so they left how to pick the President to a select committee. Because it was hot and everyone wanted to go home, that committee settled on "what if we did a separate Congress that wasn't Congress and only met to pick the President?" The electoral college isn't really part of the intended design of the federal government at all. It's not fundamental to the separation of powers, nor was it designed with the intent to limit the actual democratic input into the selection of the President. It was a last-minute kludge that everyone settled on because nobody could come up with a better idea that garnered enough support.
  14. Yeah, it’s obviously this. He’s just a very stupid and angry dude.
  15. "Fellas, it's gay to like milkshakes right?"
  16. I’d dunk on him but I’m pretty sure I’ll be like this about AOC long before I’m 70.
  17. Regarding suicide, it's not just the availability of a gun, but the likelihood that a suicide attempt with a gun results in death vs the alternatives. People are much much much much more likely to survive other kinds of suicide attempts than they are an attempt with a gun.
  18. Most Republicans wouldn't even change if it were their own kids that were killed by a school shooter. It's modern day child sacrifice that they see as necessary to maintain their way of life.
  19. Nonzero chance he has multiple children tied up in his basement.
  20. I member when Aurora police teargassed and viciously beat peaceful protestors who were just playing violins in protest of Aurora PD's murder of Elijah McClain. That was a thing that actually happened in Aurora, Colorado that someone who actually cared about the people there could (and should) be upset about. But maybe they're not actually concerned about the wellbeing of Aurora residents.
