  1. The last scene where Bridges drives off to Outlaw State of Mind is epic.
  2. Started from season 1 episode 1 last weekend. Finished season 3 episode 12 this weekend. Never gets old, and the number of players in this show who went on to other memorable roles is phenomenal.
  3. Mancrush on her from Mod Squad days. RIP
  4. April 28, 1998, 21 years one day at a time. My nephew in DC goes to Ashley in Maryland on Thursday thanks to our contact there. Praying that he gets his miracle before he leaves.
  5. They have three locations on 28th street and they have mastered the concept of fast food-never had to wait more than three minutes from the time I ordered till I was headed out the door with decent barnyard pimp. The corn on the cob they serve is a must have-State Fair worthy.
  6. Kennedy missed the fact that there was a restaurant called The Cactus Flower at 5th and University back in the 80's. Some of the best breakfast biscuits I ever ate were served there. Don't recall a Good Luck Cafe ever being in that spot. Interested in the new taco joint.
  7. Good link to the three JJ's enterprises: http://www.jjbluesbar.com/hideaway.htm There is a list of the bands that played at the Blues Bar that is something to see. This place and the Bluebird, Robert Ealy's place on Horne St. in Como had some great performers and the bars at both places took care of business.
  8. J&J used to have a trifecta-oyster bar, blues bar down on Henderson, and Hideaway on 7th. The food is great at the oyster bar but not a good place to view basketball. Better to eat there and then go hit Boomerjack's or some place on 7th for the games.
  9. Gregg was a big ugly as DKR referred to offensive linemen. He was an ironman-playing in 188 straight games, nearly unheard of today. Hornung and Taylor were able to run the Lombardi sweep that he was a part of in the Packer heydays. Lombardi benefitted from having a leader like Gregg set the example of toughness that had been lacking in previous years when Green Bay was an afterthought in the NFL. The fact that he returned to his alma mater, SMU, which everyone knew was a sinkhole when they went on probation, speaks to his loyalty and integrity. Saddened by his death and glad to have grown up watching him play.
  10. We stayed at Hotel Tremezzo the first time we were in Italy-very peaceful and an excellent retreat from the high traffic cities we had been visiting.
  11. Well for the record, yours truly nearly did tumble into the river a couple of years ago when I lost my balance-but one again a couple of AA brothers literally saved my ass by grabbing the back of my jeans and pulling me back. This story is mentioned every time we go to the river with a newcomer, never fails to get a laugh, and I get to practice rule 62 one more time.😁
  12. Met down on the Trinity this morning with 16 other alcoholics to support a new sponsee in taking his third step. It has become a tradition in our group when someone is about to pray the third step prayer for the first time, we all go down on the river, walk out on the rocks to the middle, and one at a time, kneel and say the prayer. The newbie goes last as all of us gather around him and place a hand on his shoulder as a sign of support. We then close with the Lord's prayer and go to a 7am meeting. Still one of the most spiritual experiences in my life everytime we do this for a newcomer. Never gets old.
  13. Anthony's was a bar bar back in the day. Sinbad's, Brass Rail, and end the night at Anthony's. Yep, I'm old.
  14. We are both old. And I endorse this statement fully and long for the days gone by when Second Edition was a weekly go to of mine.
  15. Unfortunately, the survivors will not ever get the admission they seek from the British government. Great documentary.
  16. Been in my rotation for 10+ years. They turn those tables quickly so even if there is a line as there often is, the wait is not long. Have sat at the bar a few times and marveled at how quickly orders are taken, prepared, and delivered to the tables. Paris on Saturday, Vickery on Sunday makes breakfast on weekends a no brainer.
  17. Subscribed. You cannot go wrong here nor with just about any seafood place in Charleston.
  18. Said goodbye to my nephew today who flew back home to DC. Gave him a copy of Living Sober along with a few encouraging words and my number. The program of Alcoholics Anonymous has continued to sustain and comfort both my wife and I (she is sober since 93). Always thankful for those of you here who are trudging the road to happy destiny with me. Rest assured I will be here for you as you have for me and available when needed.
  19. Just returned from the memorial service for my sister in law and reception at the country club. It was a wonderful celebration of the life lived by her and the friends who gathered afterward were all sharing stories of times shared with her which warmed our hearts. Grateful that I woke up with the same sobriety date I went to bed with and was present to embrace, support, and be a part of this wonderful day. Heaven is a little brighter this day with her addition and we draw the family circle a little tighter in her absence. Going to a meeting later this evening to meet my newest sponsee. God is good.
  20. Gonna check it out on your rec. Sounds like one of my favorite places already.
  21. My nephew in Charleston endorses this place and eats there weekly. He says Lewis has the closest thing to Texas barbecue he has found on the east coast.
  22. All of them have been around some successful pitmasters. Hopefully their experience can translate in this new location. CSB-Danny Longoria is a friend of mine and I will ask him if he is aware of the competition coming his way.
  23. Thanks for your courage to share about your daughter Shooter. There is an answer for family members as well in the Al-Anon family groups that you might find helpful. My wife and I were able to stay together as a result of that program when I wasn't through drinking (had another 5 years to go) but she was. My ex has gone to these meetings and found some relief as our son is now taking his first steps in sobriety. You and your family are on my list-the good one.
  24. Would have added Old Neighborhood Grill when Peter Schroeder owned it-now, not so much. Usually eat breakfast at Paris every Saturday and catch up with Mike.
