This game felt a lot like the Iowa State trip last year - a November road game against a conference opponent that wants nothing more than to punch us in the face and spoil our playoff run. For Iowa State, it’s the annoying “5 star culture”gimmicky slogan that they love to run in our faces. For Arky it’s just unreciprocated hatred. Neither team was anything special (4 losses going in), but had a knack for knocking off higher ranked teams. We showed up, defended their onslaught, and counter punched well enough to win by 10 points. Last year the defense gave up a lot of passing yard to Brecht. This year it was the offense that went absent for a while to let Arky back in. Either way, we ended both games by kneeling in their territory while up two scores. I’ll take it.
As for Ewers, I don’t think he’ll ever become a viable deep ball threat. I just wish he could eliminate the self sacking and take the free yards when they’re available. That alone could boost the offense enough to be significantly more potent.
