They're on their way. I know very few people still in the business but I will tell you that the rank-and-file still in the trenches are every bit the chaser of truth that they've always been. Yes, there are some bad apples in every bunch. The struggle between the ad side and the news side was always real. Publishers tended to be rich folks who galavanted around town with other rich people doing Republican things. The difference is the Republicanism has changed. It's gotten ugly. It's gotten cruel.
I've been saying this since shortly after Trump took office in 2017. His worst lasting legacy -- if he doesn't win re-election and go all fascist on us, destroy American Democracy, etc -- is he has absolutely destroyed any and all trust in legacy media. It's just gone like a fart in the wind. "Fake news" has been beaten into our lexicon and it ain't likely going away in my lifetime. Legacy media was probably our only hope to defeat the ridiculousness that passes as "truth" these days. The shit that is put out there that the GQP/MAGAts believe is simply astounding. (Yes, foreign bad actors are creating a lot of the nonsense but it spreads as gospel by the American moron.)
