  1. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/22/us/politics/john-kelly-trump-fitness-character.html Kelly going on the record to agree Trump is a fascist, confirm and elaborate on other deplorable things Trump has said, including repeated Hitler admiration. Trump’s threat to use the military against Americans prompted the longest serving Trump chief of staff to come out on the record. Why is this not an all caps headline by the New York Times? Why doesn’t Kelly going on Sixty Minutes or something? If he cares enough to speak up, make sure people hear you.
  2. Sounds like Mr. Vance has a drug problem to me. He should get help. And we have figured out what's going on with the eyeliner? Seems like that should get more attention.
  3. Is there a time slot for the surprise guest?
  4. That doesn't appear to be a plane associated with TS and flies in and out of Chicago regularly. I suppose it could have been chartered for her. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N45EJ Not her plane that just flew into Nashville:
  5. She came back over night from Japan for the Super Bowl so the tour isn’t an obstacle. Also could appear remotely. I just don’t see any point in her holding back given the need to mobilize people early and drive voter registration before deadlines. And she clearly doesn’t have a Maggots are Swifties too mentality. Is that Swifties for Kamala campaign organized? That’s a really good sign if so.
  6. Swift will endorse in a big way. I could see her campaigning or making a convention appearance.
  7. I have a strong preference for the mini-primary idea. I think it will produce a stronger candidate in the end, even if it's Kamala prevailing in that contest. Everyone tries out their best Trump attack.
  8. Can we talk about the political implications of this yet? He's going to get a 5 point bump in the polls plus the convention and VP-tick magnifying it. On the heals of broad recognition that Biden is likely to old to effectively run, probably serve, absent Biden dropping out and an inside straight from the democratic party, we should get ready for Dear Leader Dotard, no? For the record, my heart goes out to the family of the victim in PA and those injured, and reject political violence.
  9. When I saw the clip of her saying this I didnt catch the pause and couldn't understand it for the life of me. I heard "to see what can be unburdened, by what has been" but she was saying "To see what can be [comma] unburdened by what has been." I swear I spent 10 minutes watching those clips trying to figure out what the fuck she was saying.
  10. But that 2020 primary campaign was a disaster. Not sure how broad of vetting you mean but she was not an effective campaigner and it's not clear she would be now. I also dont like the idea of Biden or insiders anointing her. Have a process, let her prove herself in some kind of mini primary or have others present a more compelling option. There are risks with that process but I think Kamala is a known risk that's probably greater. Resign or drop out?
  11. Serious question, what does that mean? "What can be unburdened by what has been." It must make sense considering the frequency with which she uses it but I'm honestly at a lost. My concerns with Kamala is he presidential campaign was a disaster and she's been ineffective in the VP slot even in the VP type things. Remember when she was put in charge of the border crisis?
  12. Isn't it pretty common for people facing mental decline to have good days and bad? The problem is he's likely having days like the debate with some regularity. It doesn't matter if he's fine sometimes. The presidency --and campaigning for it--isnt a sometimes job. He needs to step aside in the next week and let a process play out to identify who beats Trump in November.
  13. I think donors and other connected people will get to the inner circle, including Jill, and they'll convince him. Our choices are either go with Biden and guarantee Trump -- absent some Trump having the massive heart attack we all hope for -- or an open convention and maybe Trump wins anyway but at least having a chance. That's where we are after last night. Now Biden just has to be convinced of it.
  14. The other thing about the debate is that thanks to the format including lack of fact checking, Trump held it together and looked presidential by his standards. It'll provide some reassurance to those willing to vote for him and combined with the Biden disaster will further shift the polls.
  15. It needs to be pressure on Jill Biden and close advisers to tell him it's time for the good of the country. He could give a grand farewell, let's unite behind the next generation to beat Trump speech.
  16. I'm not that worried about party division. I think even Bernie can see the threat Trump poses and would fall in line. I could see consensus forming around Newsome pretty quickly.
  17. An Open convention would open up the veep spot as well. Maybe a Newsome-Whitmer ticket? She could bring Michigan and much of the Midwest. Newsomes the top alternative in all of the betting markets. What's infuriating is the better outcome would have been an open primary for all of these people to elevate their profiles and then everyone unite behind a candid to bear Trump. Biden's ego and selfishness made it so much more likely Trump, with all his flaws, could be reelected
  18. I was just looking at the electoral map this morning. If you take the safe blue states plus Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, which are all statistically tied in polling average, we are spared a Trump second term. I'm up here in northern Virginia so will plan some Penn canvasing and make a lot of phone calls to those states. Biden can pull this off.
  19. Interesting. My fave scenario is Trump having a fatal stroke on stage and sparing us the next 4 months and possibly death of our democracy.
  20. I've watched the bloodbath clip a couple times and, like any Trump rhetoric, it's hard to know what he's trying to say. If you parse the words, though, he starts to say it'll be a bloodbath for the auto industry and then interjects that it'll be a bloodbath for the whole country. It's not as ominous as some as the headlines suggest but it's not unreasonable to take as a broader threat. And I think it's consistent with a lot of fears.
  21. I was curious what the fuck he could be trying to say. I found a longer version of the quote in a Guardian article: “You know what’s interesting? Joe Biden won against Barack Hussein Obama. Has anyone ever heard of him? Every swing state, Biden beat Obama but in every other state, he got killed,” https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/mar/17/trump-verbal-gaffes-ohio-rally-bloodbath Seeing that context, I think he was saying that Biden outperformed Obama in every swing state but underperformed in others, suggesting voter fraud. No idea if that's true but appears to be what Trump intended. The out-of-context clips is the manipulated reality we live in but it's also not necessarily new. Politics have always been about distorting people's statements to the max. It can just be done more powerfully and with more resonance with today's social media.

Isn't that their whole approach? To take risks in order to gather real-world data that in the end leads to faster development than if they just kept refining on the ground. It's a move fast and break things sort of mentality and seems to be the reason for their vast lead over all other commercial space. Look at how they learned to land the Falcon 9 boosters. I don't think it's a "cavalier attitude," it's calculated risks and when people on board blowing things up is okay.
  23. What was that about knowing a woman that survived multiple abortion attempts until her grandmother saved her from a pan? What?
  24. I used to lie in bed thinking about a flash and then being eviscerated. That it could happen just like that. I'm having some of the same thoughts today. It's unlikely and the fear irrational, but it's more likely and more rational today than a week ago. Made sure to hug my kids.
