  1. Guess he's done winging it? God, this campaign is going to be a force.
  2. Wow
  3. Klobuchar needs a salad and a comb.
  4. In Mueller we trust:
  5. Agree wholeheartedly. Will be hard to change as it's a major political power grab. A correct, just one. But a power shift nonetheless. I could see the Super Tuesday states on the whole being more critical this year but should move them up or figure out a way to deemphasis Iowa and NH.
  6. Interesting four states.
  7. Sorry about the gloating. Here's my take. Beto said 128K unique contributions, average $47 (corrected to $48 by the campaign.) Sanders had 225K with average donation of $27. So Beto definitely had more larger donations, but the conspiracy theories that his numbers were artificial and built on bundling just to beat Bernie are clearly wrong. On the other hand, Beto said "contributions" not contributors so it's possible they're counting each merchandise purchase a separate donation maybe to increase the number of small donations. If so, they're trying to present the numbers in the best possible light, but the bottom line isi that he has broad support at all donor levels, much like his senate campaign. Also, speculating here, but I'm guessing his small-dollar donations will be more sustained than Bernie especially once everyone wants to get one of those sweet shirts. His total fundraising for Q1 will likely come close to Bernie's total over a larger period.
  8. Bad_teammate, you really need to check your approach in arguing this. I like that we're discussing candidates, but you have a clear agenda against Beto. It's not helping you.
  9. The policy will ultimately be dictated by House and Senate gains. I think Beto gives us the best chance for those pickups. I want him to continue to commit to the major structural reforms. All the rest would come. Not left enough for some but Klobuchar would actually be a good running mate for Beto to appeal to the Midwest. Like Warren as a not evil liberal Dick Cheney.
  10. Better.togethe for effect.
  11. Check out the first replies to that:
  12. This thread needs to get back on track. Beto's doing a good job of reaching out to local officials while campaigning.
  13. His question was should the number change based on changes to life expectancy and health. His question: Why is 65 a static number for defining the elderly - the same as in 1935 - given the advances in medicine, health, and life expectancy in the last 85 years? My paraphrase: "should the number change based on changes to life expectancy and health." You're insufferable. I'm going to bed.
  14. This didn't answer the question. Why is 65 the right number in 1935 and still the right number today? If you say that 65 was too high in 1935, fine, that's possible and probably right. Why is 65 right today? Should we actually be talking about lowering it? Why not 60? Why not 45? His question was should the number change based on changes to life expectancy and health.
  15. Not everyone has enjoyed those advances in medicine, health and life expectancy. Ideally you'd have different retirement ages for different people, but I don't know how you go about that. Keeping the retirement age the same plus means testing would probably help. I'd guess means testing is probably a good proxy for determining who need to retire at 65 and who don't cause they're rich and healthy. BT, you got an answer to the question above? It's a good question.
  16. It's shit like this that makes me wonder if Putin's just telling Trump to be as divisive as possible. We live in scary times.
  17. i'm pretty sure Trump didn't win the republican primary because he promised not to cut social security/medicare. And both him and Hillary made those promises. What are you on? Do you think this is an effective way to discuss issues? Really, how old are you? What do you do for a living?
  18. I wouldn't want it raised for him. That was the point. For my whitecollar father in law, absolutely.
  19. Why not both? Those things you listed aren't mutually exclusive. I'd like a serious discussion that actually considers the tradeoffs. Raising the retirement age isn't a terrible idea, but it doesn't work for everyone in all jobs. My dad worked his ass off his whole life and by 62 his body couldn't work anymore. My father-in-law will work until he's 70, is in perfect health, and is loaded. Working out some different options for people that end up in each of those outcomes, while ensuring that we all are guaranteed that our basic needs are met at retirement sounds reasonable to me.
  20. Should we start an issue thread for entitlements? A few things to think about: (1) people are living longer (except in recent years cause opioids, fatness and guns) (2) some people are working longer, (3) we don't want elderly people to be poor; (4) rich people don't necessarily rely on social security; (5) fertility rates are much lower today than in previous generations. Those realities could inform a reasonable policy debate on if social security can be improved to preserve benefits for future generations, including the most vulnerable populations. Means testing and raising the retirement age are possibilities. That shouldn't make someone your "moral enemy." Jesus fucking crisis. How old are you? How's the basement?
  21. We'll, that escalated quickly.
  22. Nonzero chance Beto visits every county in America. Will definitely hit up all the ones in early contest states.
  23. Cross posted from Bernie thead: This is a big problem for him, especially since he's known to most people. Enten doea have the caveat that the data is somewhat stale.
  24. This is a problem for Bernie.
  25. Just today you've (1) posted a misleading tweet on Beto's launch fundraising total ans (2) said I was lying about ECU's endorsement of Beto. You're being dishonest. We should absolutely vet Beto. It should be done in an honest way.
