  1. Gift from my wife. In Mueller, I trust. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  2. There is zero chance our current insurance-based system could be replaced by single payer in broad sweeping legislation. Zero. Look at the Clinton 90s effort and how Obamacare has gone. It doesnt matter if 70% support it on paper. Once the Koch Bros label it socialism, Berniecare, or whatever they want to call it, it's DOA. Beto supports a realistic pathway to single payer. I'll prefer that. And Beto's priotity of structural reforms will make eventual single payer possible. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  3. I honestly don't get the "lack of substance" attacks on Beto. He had plenty of well-thought out policy proposals during his Senate campaign, most important to me a multipronged structural reform proposal. Campaign finance reform was at the center of that. Theres a reason End Citizens United made him their first Senate endorsement. He doesn't make broad policy proposals the centerpiece of his campaign messagaging like Warren but it doesn't mean he does not have them or is not capable of digging into policy. His campaign is just built around the positivity message. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  4. Boom. "I choose not to... until Monday, bitch!"
  5. What? "Half" was a rhetorical point. Obama's race absolutely played a role in the success of McConnell/GOP's "make sure Obama fails at all costs" strategy. It is no coincidence that the strategy culminated in electing the leading proponent of birtherism to the Whitehouse. A lot of other factors also helped elect Trump, but my point was that, sadly, a white Obama, will probably be more successful. The GOP would not necessarily be as successful putting party over country the next time around. This is a distraction, sorry I took the conversation there.
  6. There are a couple reasons to believe Beto could succeed in uniting the country to the extent Obama failed: (1) the GOP is going to be hobbled--possibly destroyed--in 2020 for enabling the most corrupt criminal presidential administration ever. There will be a greater need to heal the divisions than 2008 and more opportunity to do so; (2) Obama was black and half the country is racist. Meanwhile:
  7. Yeah, I that article got at some of that. Just realized Virginia is a Super Tuesday state and should be hostly contested with no Virginian running. Nice to have my vote and support matter again.
  8. Yeah, I regretted that one after posting. More likely isn't it was around a million or two and they figured it was better to report a later number. I don't think it says much about the viability of his campaign. Now that he's back on the campaign trail, the money will come. That's not going to be a problem.
  9. Gushing praise from guy that prepped Cruz against Beto in the Senate race. https://www.newsweek.com/beto-orourke-ted-cruz-presidential-elections-donald-trump-1365360 I don't think people realize what's coming with Beto. It's going to spread like wildfire.
  10. Or you could, you know, subscribe and support important journalism.
  11. Whoever the Dem's candidate for Senate in Texas is will have a better shot with Beto on the pres ticket than Beto would have had without Beto on that ticket. Don't know much about Sema. I googled her and all I found was a Crowdpac that identifies her as "Beto's primary opponent" who is taking on Cornyn. I like Joaquin Castro there, think Julian should have run for Senate.
  12. One more post with some perspective from Nate Silver.
  13. The level of panic from the GOP is all you need to know about Beto's potential:
  14. On the fundraising numbers, they could have been bad, or it's possible they're strategically holding them because of the Christchurch attacks dominating the news cycle. I kind of feel like he should have started his campaign more organically like he did in Texas, just hit the road and let the momentum build but they chose the orchestrated roll out. We'll see. He did get supporters like Troph and myself who were on the fence on whether he should run behind him in a matter of few days. That will start to pay off.
  15. If you think it was just Ted Cruz, you weren't paying attention. He worked his ass off and inspired people to come into the political process who normally sit it out. He had a 1000 people at a rally in Abilene fucking Texas. People are going to be dumbfounded when he rockets to the top of the polls in the early primary states over the next few months.
  16. He's a week into his campaign. Give it time.
  17. Awesome. I'm pretty much in the same place as you. I was skeptical before the launch for many of the same reasons, but think he has the best chance to run a successful campaign to move us past Trumpism. My wife and I hosted some phonebanks up here in Northern Virginia, and gave a fair amount relative to our income during the Senate campaign. Plan on hosting a watch party for the March 30 rally. Good luck if you host a presidential fundraiser. Agree it would be badass.
  18. Looks like he's setting out to visit all 99 Iowa counties in record time. Every county in America? Hell, why stop there? 3007 counties in America.
  19. I recall you being skeptical of a Beto run for president, despite your strong support of his Senate campaign. What changed for you? Or do I have you confused with someone else? Has his fundraising team been in touch yet?
  20. After reading this, I got curious about how many languages Buttigieg speaks. Apparently, it's 7 conversationally, which is 7 more than our current president.
  21. This is powerful stuff. On family separation: "That is America for long as that persists and for as long as it takes to reunite those separated families." He may have had his first viral moment of 2020 there. For all those criticizing him for being a policy lightweight, what stands out to me is his ability to provide thought leadership in a way that actually persuades. And he's brilliantly using social media to do it. If we're going to move past Trumpism, those are essential tools to do it.
  22. He forgot to ask them to go to act blue to donate. Amateur.
  23. This is what Beto does well. It's incredibly powerful in person and amplifies through social media, and if he catches on like he did in Texas, all the national-level scrutiny and skepticism will fade into the background. All that matters now is connecting with actual voters and supporters.
  24. The bolded part is what's so fucked up. Probably a lot of those from Purdue would do it again, knowing what they know now, and would justify it by a belief that people are in pain. Cost of doing business. They get away with it because the pharma lobby is one of the most powerful in America. I've been thinking about this a lot. Also, what would happen if you legalized hard drugs adn put the money from the drug war into education and treatment. I think everyone would be better off. Except the druglords but fuck them, they should have gotten theirs by now.
