  1. Here's a good discussion of the legal issues with a national emergency declaration. It's not so obvious he would be ultimately blocked. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/01/08/how-supreme-court-might-rule-if-trump-declares-an-emergency-his-wall/?utm_term=.9f577f9ce976 This may be one of those cases where you see justices taking weird positions because their desired political outcome differs from their legal views. They'll first look to the statute to see if it defines' national emergency. It apparently doesn't. If this counts as a national emergency, then it means Congress basically granted completely discretion to the President to determine whether it's a national emergency or not, which raises a lot of constitutional issues. It's going to be a mess and ultimately decided by the Supreme Court.
  2. I found an answer to my own question: http://theconversation.com/if-trump-declares-a-national-emergency-could-congress-or-the-courts-reverse-it-109752 So we're not talking about simple majorities for Congress to override. 2/3 would be difficult. This is all fucked up and dictator action. We'll see who actually believes in the constitution.
  3. I meant wouldn't Trump have to sign a national emergency override? Isn't it otherwise a Congressional veto?
  4. Mark Kelly in in Arizona. Good candidate for dems. Hope McSally enjoys her 2 years in the Senate.
  5. Non-candidate Beto just happened to have Annie Leibovitz photographing him yesterday: https://www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/politics/2019/02/11/photographer-annie-leibovitz-spotted-beto-el-paso-rally/2843934002/ Really excited to see him run.
  6. Big night for Beto. First rally since losing to Cruz right? Head to Head with Trump. Lot of people watching and a strong issue for him. Excited to see him reappear in a big way.
  7. I'd say there's no way a shutdown happens again, but they seem to happen when each side thinks they can come out ahead politically. With the last one, it was clear to any objective observer-- including McConnel-- that Trump had a losing hand from the beginning. Trump's irrationality distorted things, and he went all in with a pair of twos. Here, I honestly think the politics have shifted a little bit and the pressure's on democrats to give in to avert a shutdown. They'd probably receive more of the blame this go around. With pressure from the bases of both sides, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a shutdown of a week or two, playing chicken up to the point where the consequences start setting in again. We'll see.
  8. This would be great. Let them live out their libertarian dreams in the shithole of the poor states plus Texas and Florida. You think South Americans caravans are a problem? Wait till you got a line of poor fucks from Oklahoma, Mississippi and other shitholes streaming over the border pissed off cause their wealth transfers from those liberal rich states get cut off. 10. This is more or less his first campaign event. That High School gonna be packed. Hopefully they're looking for bigger venues. https://twitter.com/BetoORourke/status/1094257285000581120?s=19 Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk

  12. What conclusions from the Senate Intelligence Committee is he referring to? I assume Burr said nothing of the sort.

  14. Came out absolutely gorgeous. Really impressed how well these things hold up and reheat. Even the bark was pretty much fresh. Delicious as always. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  15. I just dumped the hot water into a cooler with bridket. I'm not a smart man. How jacked up will the bark be?
  16. Y'all are damn helpful. I still have to transport it. So it's just shaving the rest time down. Guess I'll do that and just leave it in the plastic for the cooler ride.
  17. Any other thoughts? I think my options are: (1) leave in plastic for a couple hours in cooler. Should stay around serving temp but worried about it making it harder to pull out of plastic (2) pull out of plastic at home, rewrap in foil for the 2 hour rest. Temp is going to come down more and rewrapping may mess up the bark more.
  18. See, the problem is I wanted to do this I the morning and head into the office around 9. We don't have a stove.
  19. I brought a chilled Franklin brisket back.with me from Austin. Going to heat it up for my office tomorrow. Plan to follow the directions which recommend sous vide to 165. Question I have for yall is if I do that at 9 am can I cooler it and let it rest until lunchtime like I would with a normal brisket? Any advice on getting the vaccuseal off without fucking up the bark?
  20. I guess we could count em as three fifths of a person. Anyone thought of that?
  21. Reminds me a lot of Hillary's email. Inconsequential really but somehow gets turned into a disqualifier. Meanwhile, we have a criminal sitting in the Oval Office.
  22. I just did mine... we'll pay more federal income tax and a higher effective rate, but we earned significantly more in 2018 over 2017. Doing some rough math, the effect of the new law was probably about a wash for us. We lost about $12K in deductions from the SALT caps, which canceled out any changes that benefited us.Our withholding, which I kept the same, was low with our new income/new laws, so I'll have to cut the IRS a check.
