  1. Of course there’s a podcast. Why didn’t I think to check? I love a good podcast and will check it out.
  2. Everywhere is better than Texas. Costco in Alaska was sitting on tons of cheap McKenna in August.
  3. So what’s the best current value for something to whack pigs at night from 100-120 yards? All the feeders at my lease are very close and I want something easy and cost effective so I don’t feel bad sending a teenager out to use it. I got a hog light last year and it sucked so I’m looking for something better than that. Maybe NV instead of thermal? https://pulsarnv.com/collections/digital-nv-riflescopes Cheapest Pulsar? https://nightvisionguys.com/pulsar-thermion-2-xq35-pro-thermal-imaging-riflescope-2-5-10x-384x288 Cheapest Thor 4? https://www.atncorp.com/thermal-scope-thor-4-384-1-25-5x
  4. These barely run, more like a little soybean shrub. Nowhere near the mayhem of cantaloupe or watermelon vines.
  5. Little Book is great again this year if you’re into rye. It’s not quite as good as last years PHC 10 year rye, but it’s also going to be way easier to find.
  6. Got my first watermelon, I’m not sure who asked for personal size with seeds although the flavor was great. I can’t keep up with the damn cowpeas eating them fresh as green beans so I let a bunch go and harvested them as black eyed peas. Laborious AF shelling them, but it’s at least new and interesting. They’re an incredible cover crop to keep weeds down so I might have a literal million next season.
  7. Tomatoes are running out of steam, but the soybeans and cowpeas are coming on strong. The cowpeas have to be the easiest thing to grow that I’ve ever attempted. They’re from seed and are already producing and have never had irrigation on them. I was gone for 10 days and they looked better than ever when I got back. l I also have some cantaloupe and watermelon that are doing pretty well. The corn seems a bit stunted but we will see how it works out.
  8. Hooked it trolling for kings. My dad is a resident so no slot for him.
  9. Took the boat 100 miles out to the open ocean off the coast of Yakobi island, smoked a limit of king salmon and a 24 pound long cod. On the way back it got a little sporty in front of Glacier Bay, but it’s hard to shoot video when 4-5’ waves are going over the bow, so it’s just 2-3’ in the vid. The pic off the bow is about 5 minutes after the video and it never ceases to amaze me how much turning one corner can change conditions in the inside passage. Also a bonus video of a killer whale chasing salmon away from the boat. IMG_1078.mov IMG_1066.mov
  10. Docked up, cruising up Tracy Arm and backing down on a waterfall yesterday. We did 180 miles in a day, my longest trip yet in this boat. Beautiful water the whole way with mostly calm seas and a little sub 2’ wind chop here and there.
  11. A blazing hot 60* day up here in God’s country. Balmy weather and calm seas so I can cruise through it at 40 kts on the way to fish. Saw an excellent whale show today as well.
  12. I have a Lander GMT with the original brass crown which became difficult to turn after 4-5 years. They said they could service it for $400 which really sucks on a $1300 watch. They look great, though.
  13. 2.5l sucks bad, but the 2.4l turbo in the XT is fun. The CVT reminds me of a smooth shifting old 3-4 speed auto and it’s a lot more relaxing in traffic than my ZL1. Great sound system and tech, rubber floor mats and came tuned to 90.5. I’m going to throw on my Chacos and live the dream. I would have preferred the Onyx visually, but went with the Touring to get ventilated seats.
  14. Those things are the worst. They cut down plants for sport and nibble like three bites out of every veggie. Hate, hate, hate.
  15. Blackberries produced about 2 cups over the weekend, also some weird cukes and tomatoes like crazy.
  16. Had a few tomatoes ripen today, they were all superb except the Roma was mealy trash. It’s been so damn wet that I have mushrooms sprouting so maybe that’s the issue.
  17. Tomatoes are definitely top on the list of tasting better from the garden. Zucchini are probably at the bottom in terms of tasting exactly like store bought. All berries are phenomenal upgrades over store bought.
  18. This is the list.
  19. This is the best Texas bourbon of all time. And by Texas bourbon, I do mean 16 year MGP going for way less than any barrel proof high age MGP I’ve ever seen. It’s really good and I have an embarrassing amount of backups.
  20. I’m growing two kinds of southern/cow peas this year for the first time along with edamame. They’re up and growing and I think they should work, but might need some shade cloth. Not sure there’s much else to do. Also, cherry tomatoes are ripening and I get a small handful of blueberries and a blackberry or two every day. They’re amazing, better than desert. The second year blackberries are about to drop the hammer and can’t hold themselves up with the weight of the berries.
  21. My blackberries are coming along nicely, hopefully the birds and animals don’t get to them before they ripen. Should have some zucchini and yellow squash this week as it warms up and my okra and edamame have sprouted. And my blueberry crop is going to be tiny, but it’s better than nothing.
  22. I did about 32k miles on a Bandit 1200, they’re the best UJM of all time.
  23. LB7 is pretty great, best in years.
