  1. Stagg Jr with the win on that one. It got killed by EHTBP #9 and ‘18 GTS and then I shelved it. But in this one it really couldn’t be touched with that cherry note that I love. The Woodford is great, more caramel and oak with less peanuty finish than the ECBP. Woodford has been on a roll with this batch proof and the Very Rare Fine Bourbon.
  2. October ‘19 before the world ended. If Americans ruined it since just go to the next small town in BCS and try that. They’ll run out eventually, but not yet.
  3. I’d hit up Hotel San Cristobal in Todos Santos. Nice Jeep drive up from Cabo, sit by the pool and drink Mezcal cocktails or Tecate or whatever. Gaze upon the talent and wait for the panga fisherman to bring in something that can be Ceviche’d immediately. Sleep in and repeat, maybe hit up Jazamango for a meal that slams for, like, $40 USD. Don’t forget to soak up some local $.80 tacos and see if there’s any live music in the town square. Last time we went there was a great band playing off the alternator of a mid ‘90s suburban. Not a single federale to be seen and very few fat Americans clogging up the beach.
  4. New Woodford Batch Proof 128.3 vs Stagg Jr Batch 9 and ECBP B518 to round out a weekend of way too much yard work recovering from the winter kill.
  5. Jefferson’s never fails to deliver the disappointment, especially when it come to the enjoyment/dollar ratio.
  6. Support the local guys, it’s worth $92 anyway.
  7. Store picks are double barreled MGP distillate where 4-5 years is the first barreling from Indiana and the second barreling is done in TX for about a year. Not exactly Texas bourbon but it would explain why it’s good.
  8. Correct, that’s the good shit.
  9. If you want to dabble in something more expensive that doesn’t suck then grab a Remus Repeal Reserve for $76.99. 12-ish year MGP at 100 proof is a great option. Tejas Liquor also has an Elijah Craig pick right now which is as good an option as you’ll find in the $30 range.
  10. What a find. Love that stuff and it’s both one of my favorite MGP and also favorite 90 proof pours.
  11. Correct, I’ll think most people would struggle to pick it out blind. B30 is good but not special and definitely not with even considering at a $900 secondary valuation.
  12. Auction delivery on ‘15 Lot B, Stagg Jr batch 7 and Barterhouse 20. Working on finishing some samples tonight. Starting with Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye, then headed for some 4R single barrels.
  13. I’ve never done a tour, not sure if they’re aging in TX or not. It’s not distinctly different than most MGP to me, so if it’s fully aged in TX that would throw a wrench in the logic that most TX bourbon has to taste like ass. Also, LOL at Edward’s Plateau. Reminds me of that idiot Fajita’s at Rita’s billboard on 35 outside of Schertz.
  14. Some might say it doesn’t get any better.
  15. It’s unique and different than the other profiles out there, but other than being balls to the wall on proof I’m not sure it’s better in its uniqueness. Probably most comparable to the Michter’s style in the tobacco and char notes. Finishing up with some SAOS 4 yr rye and I’ll take the clean rye spice and marshmallow nose with a little sweetness on the palate any day. You can still listen to my 100% valid opinions on the Armagnac, tho.
  16. Wife made some banana bread muffins so I had to wash it down with a couple of pours. Not going to lie, I don’t think the JD Barrel Proof Rye is really doing it for me. Decent at retail but when secondary hits $300 I’m unloading my spares. Second pour was a L’Encantada Lous Pibous single barrel from 1995. I have five of these Armagnacs open now and this is by far the best. Do yourself a favor and pick one or three up. If you like bourbon you’ll like this.
  17. Pour it in a pan, light it on fire, reduce it down, add a little extra syrup and bless some French toast with the finished product.

  19. Better than Woodford Very Fine Super Rare Old Bourbon?
  20. This a great story. Not even sure I need to visit now since I’m 99% sure this is exactly how it would go down for me.
  21. It’s good for sure and I thought I liked barrel strength the best until I tried them side by side. In either case, M10R having the highest secondary price of that group is madness.
  22. Unless you have toasted.
  23. Smoke Wagon is so off the rails right now. Yesterday I traded one of the 8 yr Spec’s picks, which are good if not amazing, for a ‘19 GTS and an OWA. Everything is getting so dumb that it’s taking the fun out of it
  24. On the shelf everywhere in Austin.
