  1. Did some great smoking on pork belly burn ends and Costco prime brisket that I finished off with Boutique-y 24 year Heaven Hill, Widow Jane Lucky 13 Spec’s, Woodford 128.3 and a fresh crack Blue Note 17 year Dickel single barrel from Alamo City in SA. It’s barrel proof 94.5 and surprisingly tasted nothing like any Dickel I’ve ever had. I was calling it a cherry note and my neighbor went with plum, but either way more like a Sazerac product and less like vitamin sadness. A bit steep at $150, but no regrets on opening it with friends to celebrate America.
  2. They have date codes but not barrel numbers or anything.
  3. I don’t mind the regular version, which is somehow roughly equivalent to 4-5 year MGP. Not sure it would rise above mixer in the collection at cask strength so I doubt I’ll pick it up.
  4. Oh, never mind, I’ll just drink during the rain delay.
  5. Holy balls he squared that one up in the rain. Only disappointment is that I planned about 3 more pours of bourbon for extra innings.
  6. Batch 16 or leftover 15?
  7. Bowman single barrel is so damn good. If you can’t get Blanton’s or Blanton’s Gold you’re really not missing much if you grab a $48 bottle of this off the shelf.
  8. Nothing is more distasteful to me than sitting in lines with flippers. Even waiting for a club drop for ER store picks left me feeling a bit sad about humanity.
  9. A little pre-fire Heaven Hill (allegedly) action tonight.
  10. I’m not sure it would be worth buying just samples from Still Spirit in the UK, but if you’re just rounding out another order it’s kinda fun. I grabbed the Wm Heavenhill 3rd Edition, 2017 Birthday and 2016 FRSmBLE. The bottles are like scale models with heavy bases and everything. Anyway, the Heavenhill is very nice with a brown sugar nose and just a little nuttiness with an amazing oily mouthfeel.
  11. They do look a bit hate crimey. Hard to put a finger on exactly why.
  12. Exactly. I like the SH 14 as much as any of the mystery 15 year KSBW tote bourbon that has dropped and I think I paid $96 at Spec’s.
  13. Would be funny if they dropped Maker’s FAE-01 quantities and decimated the $300 secondary value. And by funny I mean tasty.
  14. Completely striking out on the Russell’s 13 year. Almost got a bit stabby today just trying. I really wanted to do a 13 yr showdown with the Widow Jane and a 13 year SAOS sample I have sitting around.
  15. You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers. Unless you have 175 open which would be pretty incredible.
  16. Go to Heaven Hill and grab some old Fitz and you should be able to trade for a few ER.
  17. But if this is like $86 and WJ Lucky 13 is $97 then what are you grabbing? I haven’t had any of their batches since 14 so maybe I need to try again
  18. Is there a mercy rule if you’re up by 10 after 6 1/2 and also have 10 HBP even if it’s the tournament? Maybe give it a catchy name like the Fairfield Rule.
  19. Had it at Moonshine. It’s better than standard like Blanton’s Gold but it won’t blow your mind.
  20. Our local club got one of those and it’s pretty damn good. I helped with the pick but haven’t cracked my bottle yet. I really wish they’d use the square bottles like the distillery releases for the private barrels and leave that stupid shelf hog tater bottle for the shelf product.
  21. 150th is super meh. Traded mine almost immediately and no regerts. If you want something similar just grab an OFBS for 1/3 the price. Also, I hate that Whiskey Cake list because there’s no obvious winner in terms of value.
  22. I’ll PM you my address. How many barrels did you get to pick from?
  23. Yep, but they had about 12 sitting out. I haven’t seen a 12 yr barrel pick since last year either.
  24. Oh. Hell. Yes. This one is a banger. I didn’t realize Lucky 13 was a single barrel rather than a batch like the Vaults trash. This one is from Spec’s and at the highest range of the proofs for the 50 single barrels released. It has those leather and cigar notes I love in MGP plus a cobbler/baking spice note. Highly recommended at $10 more than I last paid for the more watered down and younger Rebecca Creek 12.
  25. So now errbody is pulling out beyond duplication and gold veins? My family is the worst.
