  1. Those are both great, I’ll trade you one of my 17 BiB for them.
  2. Scares you to death I tell you.
  3. I wanted OWA to win because I’ve killed a few picks with friends as we all went on about how good it was. But yeah, Redemption beat OWA by a hair and RC6 brought up the rear with a weird young corn note. OWA and Blanton’s are probably my most frequently drained bottles because that’s what people want when they look at my shelf. The hype is real.
  4. Guess what won this blind with Redemption Wheated, NCF store pick OWA and Maker’s RC6?
  5. Overall Ranking: 1. 17 BiB 2. Decades 3. Cornerstone 4. Revival Value Rating: 1. Decades 2. 17 BiB 3. Revival 4. Cornerstone All worth picking up at retail in my opinion. Cornerstone is probably the most iffy of the bunch, but still significantly better than the new Rare Breed Rye. Revival is as good as some of the other finished bourbons that fly off the shelves and can routinely be found for $129.
  6. Speaking of MGP, Smoke Wagon Uncut/Unfiltered stopped at Spec’s today in Austin/SA. Grabbed one from the 57% batch.
  7. Austin, but Houston Sunday and Monday.
  8. I’ll trade you a WT17 and kicker for it.
  9. It’s good, but in a weird funky old corn whiskey way. I like to pour it while I’m sitting on my porch with the Egg cranking out some smoke when it’s a little cooler. If you’ve had the Chronicles 40 corn whiskey range but want more flavor and proof then you’ll really like it. If you’re looking for classic bourbon flavors then you’re headed for disappointment.
  10. I have a ton of love for Boone County 12 90 proof but I haven’t had a store pick 14. It reminds me most of ‘18/‘19 ER17 101. MGP doesn’t really taste like most Kentucky bourbon so I’m not really sure what to say.
  11. I had to try this out after you said it because I frequently recommend Repeal Reserve when somebody wants an expensive yet readily available bottle. Volstead beats Repeal easily and it’s not even really close. Twice as good is always a tough claim to make, but it’s absolutely better. I’m not really aware of anything that’s better than 14 yr, 100 proof MGP for less money.
  12. Definitely strong on the standard bourbon flavors, especially the vanilla and caramel. In general it has more oak than OWA and less corn taste than Makers.
  13. This is the underrated bourbon of the year. So far 4/5 people I’ve made try this blind prefer it to OWA even if it’s an NCF pick. That MGP wheated mash bill is going to be crazy at 7-8 years.
  14. I don’t try to maintain any kind of ratio, but I have 96 bottles open and 13 are rye. If they’re not exceptional sippers then they can be relegated to cocktail service.
  15. Yeah, it’s here but a little tough to find so far.
  16. Had it tonight with Cornerstone. It’s in the same ballpark for way less money and is definitely worth the money.
  17. If you find a store pick (Tejas has one right now) you can at least get your Old Scout 5 yr at barrel proof.
  18. True story. Trying Redemption Wheated blind against an NCF OWA really opened my eyes. But I’m an MGP homer who thinks Boone County 12 is better than W12 too.
  19. Our neighbors are building a house on a vacant acre lot next to me and all of a sudden we have crazy mouse problems. I’ve easily killed 15 with snap traps in the last 8 weeks and my wife just found shit in the pantry again. Came here and HOLY SHIT I NEED A MINK. That little thing is a complete terror. Checking Craigslist now and ordering that nutter’s 148 page minkery book.
  20. Are you from the future?
  21. Managed to grab two WT 17 Bottled in Bond in the last week. Cracked one and it’s really good, but possibly a bit behind Decades and not too much better than the Spec’s Kentucky Spirit pick I grabbed around the same time. Don’t get all butt hurt if you missed out. But do ask your local Spec’s guy to see if any stores around you have the Kentucky Spirit pick. Also, Twin was co-packing Leviathan Red Blend wine and OWA store picks for father’ day. Slammed the wine with some steak and shelved the OWA for when my current pick is gone.
  22. I was going to say 6/10 on the Kentucky/Indiana scale and 8/10 on the Texas scale, which only goes up to 8 from what I’ve seen. There’s still a note I can’t quite put my finger on that’s a little off. But after you asked I tried it after a pour of KO Batch 9 and kind of hated the Garrison. I want to try it with OF1910 and Yellowstone 2018 LE to see how it stacks up with some other double barreled bourbons.
  23. It really is good, but I’m pretty sure it’s not $139 good. Tastes like they’re trying to hide something and got 90% of the way there. But it’s easily my favorite Texas bourbon so far among a sea of turds. My favorite recent pick ups are Kentucky Owl Batch 9 ($260, no regerts) and Remus Repeal Reserve Batch II. The KO tastes like a really good Stagg batch with a little more fruit and a little less oak.
  24. I have one and it’s not good. But their last to ER picks have been money. If they still have their Widow Jane 12 yr that’s a no brainer to pick up.
  25. Jack Single Barrel/Barrel Proof is better than almost all barrel strength Dickel and Jack Heritage Barrel is better than pretty much all lower proof Dickel products.
