  1. Is Newman’s worst better than Redford ‘s best? I’m gonna have to think on that. Not that Redford sucks or anything it’s just that Newman kicks ass.
  2. Paul’s moments of rage remind me a lot of growing up with my dad. For us our family ended in divorce, and in the long term it was good for everyone. In the short term it was a constant mind fuck of emotions. These scenes are not my favorite but there is a certain logic to it and the narrative moves on.
  3. And nice touch with the psa at the end. I wonder if they did that for the British viewing. I like that it shows what once were funny but thin characters into complex and difficult situations and still retaining their sense of humor.
  4. I’ll go with jimmy's first wife. He was attracted to her drapes.

Costa Rica next to qualify for WC and then likely unbeaten Honduras to qualify for Olympics. We’ll see how tough this team is, playing Honduras on its home soil and I doubt we’ll get favorable reffing. Everyone else has at least one loss or draw except Honduras. But first things first, beat CR.
  6. Simon says: And I lived that with The Wire. The Wire was canceled after season 3, and The Wire was nearly canceled again — I had to grovel and beg and plead — after season 4. To their great credit, HBO listened, and on the argument of story – not anything else because we didn’t have an audience – on the argument of story let us finish. This is not a new dynamic. I’ve been living with this for the last 6-7 years. It just is what it is. https://ew.com/article/2012/09/23/david-simon-treme/
  7. Finished season 5. Although I’ve watched season 1 and 2 multiple times, this is first time to watch 5 for the second time. Liked it much better than first time seeing it. Standout was the journalism story especially Gus. Too bad there was no season 6. I’d like to see what they would have done with a focus on Hispanics but lucky that hbo let it go for as long as it did.
  8. I can’t wrap my head around this. Parent pays adult children as employees, but cpa does w2 with high withholding which once refunded is then compliantly handed to parent to pay in to a quasi life insurance trust for the child. One child has a full time job unrelated to parent and other child is a student Issue 1. Is the work legitimate? Gray area. Paid at higher rate than what work entails. Issue 2. Payroll and income taxes are paid so govt gets its share. issue 3. Is it bypassing gift tax if issue 1 is not considered legitimate? Anything else? Issue 4. What is blowback on children if irs investigates and issue 3 is confirmed?
  9. Smileys people and tinker tailor starting obi wan kenobi are badass. 6 episode miniseries on early 80s bbc. If you can get past the 70s tv quality then there are some brilliant performances by the actors. And the acidity of the dialogue just burns through to the core.
  10. Whoah. This shit’s too real.
  11. Love the small moments. The look between bubbles and pryz in the high school was hilarious. Both were wtf.
  12. He was terrific in Something Wild and picked up the energy of the movie.
  13. I’m enjoying the 3rd season. More for the mom and kids to do. Never thought I’d hear Bruce Foxton’s name in a sit-com. But makes sense with Freeman being a huge Jam fan.
  14. Clatter and roll - Darden Smith. I hit a bus on my bicycle at 4th and congress. Velma from Selma - Augie Meyers. Sold American or Ballad of Charles Whitman - Kinky Friedman Wacko from Waco - Billy Joe Shaver All the pretty girls - The Judy’s Brand New Way - Hickoids Telephone Road - Steve Earle Pigeons - Bill Callahan Bob Fudge - Colter Wall Beer Run - Todd Snider Mother Blues - Ray Wylie Hubbard Texas Me - Doug Sahm Haley’s Comet - Dave Alvin
  15. 3 good ones tonight with first two being knucklers. night of the hunter do the right thing Third Man
  16. I saw the Sorrow and the Pity before (it’s not short or trite). It really struck the point how comfortable the middle class was with nazism. The resistance was largely farmers and communists. I’ve seen parts of Shoah and those parts were emotionally devastating.
  17. Army of Shadows. We’ll done movie about the French Resistance. You rat. You die.
  18. Show us the proof.

Konrad has been criticized by his team for his lackadaisical attitude in practice and immaturity generally. Not a good thing when team management publicizes those issues.
  20. Interested, it's on this list. https://www.filmcomment.com/best-films-of-2021-list-top-twenty-movies/
  21. Just feel dirty picking so many AKC teams masquerading as mutts. UConn (5) UNC (8) UCLA (4) Texas Tech (3) Tennessee (3) Houston (5) Murray State (7) Davidson (10) Tiebreaker: UCLA
  22. First time I saw it was at Hogg auditorium in mid 80s in the middle of day. A bunch of old old ladies and I were only ones in audience. Stunned at how sharp and funny it was and made me interested in old movies.
  23. It was this movie that led me to Band A Part. love the song too Simple Men
  24. I'll add Alphaville. Just saw Weekend. It was on TMC overnight and recorded it thru YTTV. That was a WTF movie. Cracked up at the first half and then was disturbed by the rest.
