Make a new one for Olympic. Too Much overlap with friendlies.

Word is he hurt his ankle. Was Tessman the next best fit? This roster seems to be shoe-horned. Perea leaves Colombia for US, so he has to make the team. Cardoso chooses US, and he must make the team. Yueill at one time was first choice 6 when Adams was out, so he makes the team. Dotson is a 6. That's 4 players who play the 6 on a 20 man roster. Sure seems that Perea had an inducement for switching. Dotson can play some outside back if the guys are injured and maybe never sees the field. Yueill is captain so is he an 8 with Cardoso as enforcer 6? Hope I'm wrong, but not confident with this roster against Mexico. CR game is up in the air today.

Surprised no MLS team tried to secure him. Was it in 2019 that he tore up Reggie Cannon in a FCD-SAFC scrimmage? San Antonio FC’s Jose Gallegos, 19, is headed to Germany for a two-week training stint/assessment with Bayern Munich ahead of a potential transfer, per a source. Gallegos was a finalist for 2020 USL Young Player of the Year. — Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) March 15, 2021

Directors who get a lotta mileage out of you....
dogbreath replied to GreenspointTexas's topic in Movies and TV
I like Hartley. I believe the Red Oak episodes he directed were the best ones. And the Henry Fool trilogy was weird and mystifyingly satisfying. The Book of Life was stunning. Lots to think about including this lesson plan from some unknown college class. PHILOSOPHICAL ISSUES: divine justice and forgiveness CHARACTERS: Jesus Christ (Martin Donovan), Magdalena (P.J. Harvey), Satan (Thomas Jay Ryan), Edie (waitress), Dave the gambler, OTHER FILMS BY DIRECTOR HAL HARTLEY: Amateur (1994), Henry Fool (1997), No Such Thing (2001), The Girl From Monday (2005), Fay Grim (2006) SYNOPSIS: Jesus returns December 31, 1999 at JFK airport in New York City and checks into a Manhattan hotel. His task is to end the world as we currently know it, judge the wicked, and begin the new Millennium of God’s rule. To do this, he must open the last three seals of the Book of Life, which will bring on the remainder of the apocalypse. But, Jesus is having second thoughts and considering forgiving everyone instead. This means defying God and in essence exiling himself from God just as Satan did. As Jesus struggles with his decision, he locks horns with God’s attorney on earth who insists that Jesus follow God’s law. Meanwhile, Satan likes things just as they are and laments the opening of the Book of Life. When he discovers Jesus’ hesitation, he acquires the Book of Life in an attempt to open just one more seal on it. Unfortunately for Satan, the Book of Life has a security lock on it that he can’t undo. “Those bastards in heaven, they think of everything,” Satan whines. Satan then joins Jesus at his hotel for a New Year’s Eve party, and the new millennium begins just like any normal day. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. The beggar at the airport keeps rambling, “Forgive me Jesus I have sinned; have mercy on us now and at the hour of our death.” Why does he have binoculars around his neck? 2. “I could never get used to that part of the job, the power and the glory, the vengeance; but I persevered.” What specifically is the dilemma that Jesus faces? 3. Jesus states, “I remember the flood, Babel, Sodom and Gomorrah. My father he is an angry God; to him the law is everything. Still to this day attorneys are his favorites.” God’s attorney states to Jesus, “You know what your father wants; quit stalling.” What is the connection between God, the law, and punishment? 4. Dave the gambler is an atheist who holds that people don’t have souls and are only “material, mechanisms, biological accidents.” Love, according to Dave, is only a survival mechanism. According to Satan, though, Edie’s love for Dave disproves this: he’s so unreliable that loving him couldn’t facilitate her survival; thus, she has a real soul and isn’t simply a mechanical biological accident. Is Satan’s argument compelling? 5. Dave gambles Edie’s soul away to Satan, and Satan then says the following: “One more soul snatched away from the all-knowing unknowable is still a feather in my cap. So what if it’s the last day of the world; I’m not going to give in without a fight, come what may. Let God almighty rule eternity; my precincts are the minutes and hours of the every day. As long as people have hopes and dreams, well, then, I’ll have my work to do.” What is Satan’s task on earth? 6. “I’ve been misunderstood. They think I hold a grudge against humanity, but that’s not it at all. I just think we have a good system, this tug of war between heaven and hell.” How might this current tug of war be a good system? 7. Prior to his arrival, the first four seals of the Book of Life were already opened, which brought on war, death, famine and pestilence. Jesus says he fears opening the fifth seal the most, though, which requires him facing the martyrs who died for their faith in hopes of divine justice at the end times. What’s so bad about this? 8. God’s attorney states this about God: “My client’s authority rests on this threat [of divine justice] alone.” What does this mean? 9. Early in the film the Pope calls Jesus on the phone, and Magdelana tells the Pope that he got the wrong number. Later in the film Jesus doesn’t even know who the Mormons are. What does this imply? 10. Jesus states, “I won’t judge the living and the dead. I hate this closed door policy. Who do these Christians think they are anyway?” What precisely is the closed door policy that Jesus is objecting to? 11. God’s attorney chastises Jesus for resisting to go through with God’s plan of divine judgment. The attorney states, “I never thought it was a good idea to have God made flesh. It’s messy, the human element, you know.” What does this imply about the nature of compassion and forgiveness? 12. Satan is glad that Jesus will not bring on divine judgment. Still, Satan wants to open the sixth seal which will create earthquakes and natural disasters, and thus provide the right fear factor for introducing a new religion. Is that better than either the current system or God’s plan of divine judgment? 13. What is Jesus’ basic message in the film, and is it sufficient to meet the apparent human yearning for religion? 14. At the close of the film, Jesus speculates about the future and how humans will evolve biologically and culturally. “Will they still believe life is sacred? Will it matter? Do we matter?” Are these questions more the domain of religion or ethics? -
A good article on the depth of US U-23's. The 2021 Olympic team is at best a “C-“ U23 team for the USA at this moment. So, why am I smiling? Because it is probably the best team we have sent in a decade at least. Think about what that is saying about our overall player pool…our best 2021 Olympic Qualifying roster, ever maybe, is the current “C-“ team. The explosion of talent at the U23 level is astounding compared to just five years ago. https://chasingacup.com/just-how-bad-is-our-2021-olympic-team-and-why-am-i-smiling/

My understanding is there is a lot scheduled this summer. Most important is WC qualifying which begins in September. 3 games in Sept. There is Nations League and Gold Cup. I think the plan is to use Nations League for team 1A and GC for second team. Olympic team may be the core of the qualifying team with addition of young players left off Nations league roster. First they need to fucking qualify .

Texas basketball 2020-21: Not even Shaka can fuck this up...right?
dogbreath replied to Goo Punch's topic in Basketball
Hmm. Aughts (2000-2009) v. Tens (2010-2019). Going by results and not by seeding. 12 points for winning it all. 10 points for finalist. 8 points for final four. 6 points for Elite Eight. 4 points for Sweet 16. 2 points for 32. 1 point for making tourney. 1/2 point for winning NIT. Aughts (2000-2009): KU: Roy/Self = 54 pts OU: Sampson/Capel = 28 pts UT: Barnes = 37 pts ISU: Eustachy/Morgan/McDermott = 9 pts OSU: Sutton/Sutton/Ford = 25 pts BU: Bliss/Drew = 1 pt TT: Dickey/Knight/Knight = 8 pts KSU: Asbury/Wooldridge/Huggins/Martin = 2 pts Mizzou: Snyder/Watkins/Anderson = 17 pts A&M: Watkins/Gillispie/Turgeon = 10 pts CU: Patton/Bzdelik = 1 pt NU: Nee/Coller/Sadler = 0 pts (Tens) (2010-2019) KU: Self = 46 pts OU: Capel/Kruger = 21 pts UT: Barnes/Smart = 8.5 pts ISU: Hoiberg/Prohm = 15 pts OSU: Ford/Underwood/Boynton = 5 pts BU: Drew = 23.5 pts TT: Knight/Gillispie/Walker/Smith/Beard = 17 pts KSU: Martin/Weber = 20 pts Mizzou: Haith (2010-2012) = 5 pts WV: Huggins (2013-2019) = 13 pts A&M: Turgeon/Kennedy (2010-2012) = 4 pts CU: Bzdelik/Boyle (2010-2011) = 0 pts NU: Sadler (2010-2011) = 0 pts TCU: Johnson/Dixon (2013-2019) = 1.5 pts Aughts 192 - Tens 179.5. Big takeaways: Can't say Texas and Baylor switched, but the differentials are really close: UT 37-8.5=28.5. BU 23.5-1=22.5. TT's point were from last two years due to being a finalist and EE. Mizzou and WV roughly the same. A&M ain't the right comp. OSU way better under Sutton. OU slightly better under Sampson. KSU way better under Martin/Weber. Basically it was two EE runs, but more consistent tournament appearances. I thought ISU was better in both decades, but outside of some really good teams, not so much. 3 B12 teams won the NIT in the Tens. All Texas teams. Let's add some cattle to that hat. Used this website to make calculations. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/conferences/big-12/ncaa.html -
Coincidentally, the qualifying tournament works out where most important game is first. US v. Costa Rica. 3/18. Combine this with first weekend of March Madness and March really is like Christmas. Top two qualify for Olympics. US, CRC and Mexico in same bracket (A) with Dominican Republic. A1 v B2 B1 v A2 Finalists qualify. Bracket B has Honduras, Canada, El Salvador and Haiti. If US finishes second then will have to beat first place, likely Honduras. Honduras has qualified last several times and beat US 2-0 last time. Report is that 25 will be called on 3/1 to have camp in Mexico. Not sure who'd I start that first game, but I fully expect Aaronson to stay in Europe. I saw the US v Columbia OQ playoff in 2016 and Colombia's athleticism and size crushed a young and naive US team. Score was only 2-1 (OG for US score) but Colombia dominated. US had Miazga, Arriola and Morris start. Horvath, Acosta and Trapp played full game. US team is way more experienced this time as almost are regular players in MLS.

Texas basketball 2020-21: Not even Shaka can fuck this up...right?
dogbreath replied to Goo Punch's topic in Basketball
For all of Shaka's faults, his team had good opportunities at the end. Coleman misses a one and one with 8 seconds left. Senior captain shooting 83% misses. I remember when he was a freshman and missed those fts against Tech. He went and worked on fts at 3 am after landing from Lubbock. Saturday had to hurt. Good out of bounds play to get A. Jones a good look and he misses 3 pointer with 3 seconds left. 0.4 seconds left and Sims misses tap in. The shot by Jones and Sims were good plays drawn up by coaching staff. How much of this disappointment carries over to tomorrow night? -
Aaronson against 2nd place team. Two hockey assists for the energizer bunny and a nice uncalled foul.

Good points. And that’s what I like about this graphic showing tiers as there topics open for discussion. our younger players are having some struggles. From dest admitting he’s lost confidence to Reyna and Musah not playing as well as they have been. For national team both are better centrally. Who plays there next to mckennie? Musah plays wing for Valencia and has been underwhelming. Reyna isn’t great at wing. Does Morris play wing over either of them? It’s likely that Musah choose US if he continues to underwhelm. what the hell happened to dest? He was starting and then there is a headline in late Jan. saying he’s lost confidence since the summer. These guys are young and good but that’s no guarantee. Andrew Carlton was rated as most talented us player at u17 World Cup a couple of years ago. Higher rated than Weah or Sargent. He ended up getting dismissed by Atlanta and then a USL team and now finds himself practically out of serious professional opportunities.

Texas basketball 2020-21: Not even Shaka can fuck this up...right?
dogbreath replied to Goo Punch's topic in Basketball
If Texas plays like they did last night, they will lose against TCU, OU, KU, and WVU. They will likely beat ISU, but it's on the road, so game is in play? Almost exact opposite of what you propose. Texas' defense is so bad right now that well coached teams will eat them up. Confusion and delayed decisions are not a sign of good coaching. It was obvious that point of emphasis was to get the ball up court quickly, but if it is Sims bringing the ball up then that is a turnover ready to happen. Again, well coached teams will feast on that. The hero ball on offense ain't gonna help when they don't shoot 67% from the field. Last night in second half they shot 67% and increased lead to 17. KSU came back on determined rebounding, defense and sloppy execution by Texas on defense. Texas couldn't keep up high percentage of making shots and looked meek on the boards. The future opponents will carve that up. Damn, I'm hungry. -
2020-2021 NCAA (maybe???) basketball season thread
dogbreath replied to Pancho's topic in Basketball
No Michigan State either. -
Richards starting at lcb in first game eligible for hoffenheim. It’s on espn+. They’re down 1-0 but Richards not involved in goal against. He looks good. Made a terrific diagonal pass that unleashed an attack. The attack didn’t result in dangerous shot but he did his part. He plays like this for rest of season then long and miazga should be depth pieces.

A song that marked my divorce. It was the ringtone for my ex for many years post divorce. Like clockwork, she would call while I was coaching youth soccer games and wanting to know what the kids were doing this weekend. The kids on the sideline would hear the guitar and bass line and couldn't help but move. Enjoyed the Temptations original, but this version hits me hard.

Richards will transfer to Hoffenheim. Chance to play under his old coach.

Shit, I can't get past instrumentals. Found this while looking for the stripper song from Diner. And then heard a song on Bill Mack's show, but couldn't find it either, but both quests led me to this. Why is it perfect, I don't know but love the call and response of the sax and keyboards and it makes me move. and... Saw him and Augie Meyer in 2019 at a halloween festival where he had to be helped on stage. He couldn't play like he used to, but that doesn't matter when I hear this song.

1) My memory is that FCD expected McKennie to enroll at Virginia and they wouldn't have to sign him until they wanted to. McKennie went AWOL during the DA playoffs and Pomykal moved up to take his place on the U18s. McKennie then signed with Schalke when he turned 18 in August. Up for dispute, but I think FCD realized they screwed the pooch and began signing underage players. A few months later FCD signed Pomykal and then Fereirra and Reynolds. 2) Pepi switched to FCD EP while there. 2019 U17 Mexico starting striker was also from FCD EP, Santiago Munoz. There were rumors he may go back to USYNT. Chris Richards and Tanner Tessman are from Alabama and migrated to FCD. Pomykal started out with Dallas Texans and Cannon with Solar through early DA. They and several others were told to transfer to FCD if they wanted consideration for USYNT. 3) Interesting that Bayern-FCD agreement was supposed to be two ways, but I don't ever hear any young players going from Bayern to play for FCD. But no worries as long as players of Richards caliber can get chances. 4) Philadelphia did well with McKenzie going to Genk and Aaronson to Salzburg. They supposedly have some very good young players. 5) Absolutely love the success that these young American players are having overseas.

Enjoyed the Up series as well as his direction of biographical movies like Coalminer's Daughter and Gorillas in the Mist. RIP old dude.
