  1. If they beat NZ then they can afford to tie Guinea as long as France beats both of those teams.
  2. US v France today at 2 on USA Network.
  3. Cuba played hard and pressured well but as a group their first touch was horrible. One attack in the box was stopped by 6’8 goalie Julian Eyestone who is a fcd product. He snagged what looked like a dangerous cross with ease. You can hear the coaches in the background including comment like that was shit from a hopeful shot. Final was 4-0.
  4. 9-0 US over Jamaica at U20 concacaf tourney to qualify for World Cup. Supposed to be a depleted team where multiple players didn’t get releases or are on Olympic team. List of u20 players with lots of dual/tri nationals. https://www.ussoccercollective.com/rankings/top-50
  5. One of the podcasts said that Crocker had decided on Marsch, but the players overwhelmingly wanted berhalter and the leadership council went the players way.
  6. Canada whoopin that American ass courtesy of 8 turnovers in the first quarter.
  7. https://www.today.com/news/paris-olympics/usa-mens-soccer-team-olympics-roster-rcna160453 Who's on the U.S. men's soccer roster for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris? Patrick Schulte — goalkeeper Gaga Slonina — goalkeeper Maximilian Dietz — defender Nathan Harriel — defender Miles Robinson — defender John Tolkin — defender Caleb Wiley — defender Walker Zimmerman — defender Gianluca Busio — midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi — midfielder Jack McGlynn — midfielder Djordje Mihailovic — midfielder Tanner Tessmann — midfielder Paxten Aaronson — forward Taylor Booth — forward Duncan McGuire — forward Kevin Paredes — forward Griffin Yow — forward Josh Atencio — alternate Jacob Davis — alternate Johan Gomez — alternate John Pulskamp — alternate
  8. News leaking out on US Olympic team. Zimmerman, Robinson and Mihailovich are the overage choices. No Luna. They asked him to be an alternate and he told them no. Sounds very disorganized. Vazquez not released and they asked late for Jordan Morris. Seattle would only agree for a partial release, so no go.
  9. Monster - Japanese film about bullying from three different perspectives. A quality film by Hirozaku Kore-Edu who did Shoplifters and Nobody Knows. The acting is excellent and the story has a bit of a Rashoman vibe.
  10. British shows Psycho Paul - Ideal. Jeff Murdoch - Coupling. Fleabag.
  11. Possible silver lining. Does stuck in group play mean that Reyna, Pepi, Musah and Scally play in Olympics? Balogun is age eligible too, but playing for u21s for England may disqualify him. Zimmerman and Robinson will be overage center backs with one more overage player available.
  12. What a lovely movie. I can’t imagine many putting down their phone to watch this, but it’s a better experience if one does. It makes me want to find my old cassette tapes and drink an ice water at a bar. But more importantly it makes me want to be present in my mundane routines. I swim daily in the Comal river and watch the fish and turtles. During Covid it was important for me to see faces and fish faces worked. I have replaced my commute with this daily swim and my days are better for it. Having lived for a year in Japan, I enjoy Japanese beer, food and movies. Wenders directing brought the perfect touch and the song choices were nice, especially the ending song.
  13. This film can now be streamed on Hulu.
  14. 5 guys that Beard successfully recruited were drafted. Holland, Johnson, Tyson, McCullar, Shannon. Combination of Covid, coaching change and being fired helped create this opportunity. Talk about a weak draft. 3 transfers and two who didn’t play for him.
  15. Mckennie went awol before second DA Playoffs. Fcd wanted him to go to UVa which would have ensured their rights to sign him later, so he disappeared for two months until he turned 18 and could sign with Schalke. Soccer in the US is a suburban sport. I think that the rise of mixed parentage and the ascent of middle class black families are more responsible for a diverse women’s team than the powers that be lifting an invisible cap.
  16. I’m curious what the numbers were for tudn broadcast. USA games are always higher on Spanish speaking stations in comparison to English speaking ones like fox. I wonder if it stayed flat while fox went up.
  17. This was on pbs back in The late 90s and is terrific. I was surprised at how good the actual episode was after watching the sausage being made.
  18. My son played at trinity and graduated about a year ago. He played for a DA (now it’s mls pro) team in dallas and was regularly scouted at winter showcases in Florida and summer ones in other locations. The team also played in dallas cup where there were plenty of scouts. He intended to play D1 but injured his knee senior year. After rehabbing and playing high school for the first time, he had a few offers from small d1 and d3 schools. He chose one where the the academics and the soccer were strong. I would encourage y’all to attend the camps of any preferred realistic universities. If the coaches like him and he likes the setting then keep building a relationship. My son went to several summer camps at colleges. Coaches can formally contact recruits on or after sept 1 of their junior year. And a few did due to his attendance at summer camps and from tournaments. He didn’t score high enough on his tests for brown so the coach moved on. Good academics are key for getting a spot. He got academic money at trinity that made the costs reasonable. Trinity does a great job of selling itself and still hits me up for money. If location doesn’t matter then there are a ton of schools in the east that play soccer at d3 level. The tournament regions are lopsided with eastern teams University of Chicago is always in the west region is ODP still a thing? When he was first rejected for the DA team for being too small. He played odp and made the north Texas team. He then made the all south team when they did religion iv camp at Tuscaloosa. He made the DA team right after and left odp behind. if there is still odp then that’s a chance to play and get seen. Feel free to hit me up with questions.
  19. Colombia let US have the ball, waited for us to make mistakes and then destroyed us on transition. Brazil is going to have the majority of the ball. We won’t have the ball enough for Brazil to beat us on a counterattack. They can straight up just beat us. So, we’ll look better but we won’t be better. Questions: Will McKennie put forth effort in this friendly? Will pulisic play more than a half? Most importantly, will Adam’s play some? If defense matters more than passing out of the back then Miles Robinson will start.
  20. You should check out the English mini series. Tinker Tailor + Smileys People.
  21. And creator of Caddyshack as well as co-writing Animal House. Jumped off a Kauai cliff full of coke for his swan dive…er song, so the kid has that to look forward too.
  22. Not a fan of Habys but thumbs up on Dzuik’s. BAKED is new and pretty good for rich pastries. A wonderful name to boot. I had to alter my search for “best food near me” to just “food near me” as best choice results were not in town.
  23. I feel at home here in Little Alsace since I had an ancestor by the name of Hequembourg. Although it could have been a wily Scot who took the name to advance his silversmith business. Or a kindly Alsatian couple that adopted someone from “The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization”.
  24. In Castroville for a week. Got 3” the Alsatian ladies love it. Just might be able to swim in the upper Medina later this week.
