  1. Nothing says Texas like wanting to fire the coach before the season begins. The arguments put forth for wanting to fire SS are as tired as listening to a Partridge Family record. The counterargument is not any more appealing. Come up with some new insights if you are going to tackle this topic, or better yet save it for when they play a fucking game.

    Great Quotes

Life is a sucking swirling ebb of despair. (barfly) Success leads to the greatest failure, which is arrogance and pride. Failure can lead to the greatest success, which is humility and learning. (David Brooks)
  4. Sorry to Bother You. What a weird ass and ambitious film. I can see where some likened it as a companion to Idiocracy, but where Idiocracy was logical in its vacuity, this movie was more traditional, villainous, problematic and at times reflective. Certainly not a film with a lcd.
  5. And yet, I enjoy reading these type of articles, because I'll take the excitement of having an Andrew Jones or Daniel Gibson any day. And I don't really care about the Mike Williams or Dion Dowells, because nothing is promised and the disappointment belongs to them and not me. Nothing more disappointed me than PSJ losing in the final. Not because I was a UH fan, but because I played against most of those guys in high school and they were a representation of me and the quality of basketball then. And I'd agree with you on loathing the multiple articles overstating the promise of our players, but I haven't found any besides this one and the two related ones. We ain't KU or Duke or UT football--frankly in the grand scheme of things no one gives a shit about the program. Check out how many fans show up at home games. Check out how many articles on UT basketball there are in the pay sites. Frankly, I am joyful when an article comes along. It beats looking at my own dick.
  6. Missed this article. I was high on Ramey having a significant role and this article doesn't dissuade me. Perimeter touch, playmaking will allow Texas PG Courtney Ramey to cement role in rotation "He’s really shot the ball well in our skill workout; probably better than any of our other guards. His work ethic has been terrific,” Smart said of Ramey, adding that he was in the gym at 6:00 a.m. ahead of a 6:45 a.m. workout"
  7. Hope this works out as Richards two years ago was spotted on a ODP team from Alabama by a DA coach (Houston Texans). He played part of year on HT's U16 team before moving to U18s. U18s then won DA championship for 17. Two best players left HT to play for FCD DA's for 17-18. ODP to non-MLS DA to MLS DA to Germany. Let's keep the pathways open. http://www.americansoccernow.com/articles/fc-dallas-homegrown-chris-richards-aiming-high-on-loan-at-bayern-s-u-19s
  8. 1. I think best will be Roach, but most important will be Coleman and that is because I expect the ball to be in his hands for the majority of the offense. 2. Coleman. If Texas has a lead or is tied then I'd like to see Coleman with the ball in the last three minutes. If behind then I want to see tremendous defensive pressure. 3. Sims would be the likely candidate, but I'm holding out hope on Febres. 4. Hepa, Long and Ramey are who I'm counting on with possibility that Hayes gets minutes due to foul trouble with Sims. I'm interested in seeing how Liddell does in pre-conference games and whether he'll be effective. 5. I doubt KU, WVU and KSU make many adjustments when facing Texas. They are what they are. Still thinking about the others.
  9. Who will be Texas' best player next year? Who will be Texas' best player in the last three minutes of the game? Of the returning players, who will have made the greatest improvement? How many (and who) of the new players will have significant playing time? How will B12 coaches attack and defend this Texas team?
  10. You anti-sandbaggin' mfer. May the undertow take you for a ride.
  11. Have been listening to the Bennett podcast American Fiasco and what is the difference between the players on the American team that played in the Copa in 1996 versus the players on the American team that played in the Copa in 2016? The 96 team made it to the semis in Uruguay and the 16 team made it to the quarters in the US. The 96 team would go on to finish last in the WC and the 16 team would fail to qualify for the WC. Was the 96 players' quality better? Were they less entitled? Were they better coached? They surely didn't come from a soccer culture. And the few that did were no more than the Germericans on the 16 team. The 96 players had confidence borne from adversity while the 16 players had confidence borne from coddling and ego stroking. My kid played futsal for a number of years and he was just an average player who played hard all the time. But there were futsal kids who were treated like royalty by the staff and dominated the local scene. Then there was a tournament where the house team played a Brazilian team and all the stud players on the house team acted like shrinking violets and the strivers looked just fine. Very disappointing, but those kids got to see how far away they were from real futsal players. The house team played some more Brazilian teams in the next few years and they began to compete and win a few games. The advantage of the young players going to Europe or elsewhere is the challenge of going against better players. Talented youth players need to play up. If it's too easy then go to a level where it's harder. Not every one is cut out for it being harder. Heard a story of two players going to Europe together and while one was considered a higher quality player, he went home after six months while the other one stayed. This one learned the language and started to get more success on the field. The one who went home is best player on a semi-pro summer league team, but no where near where he should be.

  14. That is one shit list. "exemplifying the zeitgeist of its time like few other films" is the descriptor for Reality Bites at 12. Yet Dazed & Confused is 26.

  16. A. C'est la vie. B. The first clause in your second point has no relevance. Whether I am a clown or not, doesn't change the arguments put forth. Your second clause in your second point is highly debatable. Is Shaka killing the program? I think not considering that he has a full roster with quality experience. Killing a program is when players rebel against their coach and don't play hard for him. In the three years of Shaka, I've seen the players play hard. C. your third point is a mischaracterization of what I said. D. Bitch fests are fine if they are entertaining. E. That was a penalty and Sweden got screwed.
  17. Febres and Coleman make all big12 academic team. And let me add that this is good news and promising for next year's team before Derka shits all over this by explaining how disappointing the incoming freshman will be and that Osetkowski's progress in the offseason is actually a bad thing and all Shaka's fault. It's promising for the future because players in the program can get better and we have good character guys who do well in school and with Coleman in particular will be counted upon to be a leader on and off the court. Poking the dyspeptic bear is not always a smart move but what the hell, I'm indistinctly indistinguishable. Just kidding Derka, although I did wish you have your own forum, so I could zip past the boring bitch fests that you seem to get involved in.
  18. Fuck the genre. Got to. It's America, man.
  19. If I were to limit it to five from youngest to older then it would be... Animated: My Neighbor Totoro, Jungle Book, Balto, Lion King and Spirited Away. Non-animated: Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz, Blazing Saddles, The Gods Must Be Crazy and Prisoner of Azkaban TV series: Arthur, The Muppet Show, The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Monty Python and Freaks and Geeks. Documentaries: March of the Penguins, Planet Earth, Spellbound, Hoop Dreams and Blackfish.
  20. I don't understand why your top two freshman for 2018 includes Sims and not Coleman with 10.2 pts, 4.1 assists and second on team in steals. The fact that Coleman will be back as a major contributor at the most important position in college basketball speaks very well for Texas. In fact I would argue that in Barnes/Smart era quality point guard or lack of determines success of team. Ford years (02, 03): S16, FF. POY that controlled the game. Ivey (04): S16. Senior leader of balanced team. Gibson (05): first round loss. Struggled at pg. Gibson/Paulino (06): EE. Should have been a FF team. Augustin (07, 08): 2rl, EE. Barnes made him into a closer in soph year. Balbay (09): 2rl. Teams learned to play off of him due to poor outside shooting. Balbay/Brown (10): frl. Just a craptastic season going from #1 to uninspired play at the end. Joseph (11): 2rl. Really good team that wore out in the end. Kabongo (12): frl. All shake but no sizzle. Felix (13): cbi. Overmatched. Taylor years (14, 15, 16): 2rl, frl, frl. Teams learned to play off him being a poor shooter, but he was effective even if teams underachieved. Roach/Jones (17): nada. Jones should have been designated as pg. Coleman (18): frl. Key player and leader on team. The cog for next year's success. As to your argument on the limited influence of freshman, I believe this year's team foundation is better than it has been since Smart's first year. Look at the effectiveness of Davis and Roach in their freshman year as role players. When Roach has not had to play pg he has been an effective player. Davis never could match his first year. The freshman will have that same opportunity to fit into roles. And I think this situation is better than Smart's first year because 1) he has been here for 3 years; 2) he has recruited these players) and 3) he has better overall guard talent than three years ago. What it comes down to is that I trust that Coleman will be better and be a leader next year. I don't know if the team will finish higher in conference or get past first round, but I believe they will play and look better.
  21. This is boring as fuck. Congrats to Hepa. Good sign for Texas.
  22. The one reason to be excited about Texas next year is quality guard depth. Coleman, Roach, Long, Ramey and Febres. Another reason is senior leadership. I would argue that none of Smart's teams at Texas have had any. His first year was a transition year and while he had seniors and quality guard depth, there was no way that everyone was on the same page. Frankly, I am glad to see Davis and Young go. Young wanted to be a feature player and he wasn't good enough and Davis after three years continually made poor decisions on team defense, couldn't handle the ball effectively and wavered in his ability to hit shots. As others have argued on post depth, it would have been good to still have Banks and I think Smart should have played him more in his soph year, but not sure it would have made a difference in his decision to leave. The freshman have a chance to integrate themselves into the team without having to be primary players and I think that will help them be more effective later in the season. As far as Big 12 - KU by a long shot. KSU and WV next tier and we will see after that. There have been plenty of JC players who have been studs (Mitch Richmond) or effective players (Pierre Jackson) and plenty who have not.
