  1. I guess I shouldn’t talk too much because our schedule would probably look similar if we weren’t committed to some of these non-con tournaments before Schloss took over. Will be interesting to see when the metrics come out but my guess is we will end up playing one of the 3 toughest non-con slates in the league. Our only layup is Dartmouth while most other teams have 3 layups and 1 semi-tough weekend.
  2. Lots of teams really challenging themselves to open the season
  3. The two best players on the field were Jared Spencer and Ruger Riojas and they both wore other jerseys last year.
  4. It was nice to see two left handed pitchers throwing harder than 87 on our team tonight.
  5. This roster has holes but is 3x the roster Schloss inherited at A&M that finished dead ass last in the SEC the season before. Let it play out. Also, there is no such thing as 3 year rebuilds in college sports anymore with the portal.
  6. He’s ready or he wouldn’t be pitching in games. At some point he has to pitch haha. Can’t just hold him back the whole time. His stuff looked fine. Fastball up to 95. Wasn’t like his control was all over the place.
  7. Is this where I softly whisper the bullpen was actually decent last year and the starters were much more of our issue? Mercer got put in a tough situation in the 9th with 2nd and 3rd and 1 out. Hard to blame that on him. The 10th is all him. We fired all our known bullets tonight so will be interesting to see how the rest of the weekend goes.
  8. Hey the freshman made a play!
  9. They stretched Riojas out preseason to 40-50 pitches I believe. He might get the rest of the way if there isn’t major trouble.
  10. I get we don’t want to bunt much anymore but that may have been a place to do it in a 2-0 game
  11. I don’t see how they overturn that
  12. This would be a very bad cycle to lose Flood or Baker. Nansen would step right in for PK if that were to happen. Would suck but PK doesn't do much recruiting and Nansen has a lot of skins on the wall. Milwee, Joseph or Jackson would suck but wouldn't lose too much sleep. Jackson maybe would be a little more frustrating than the other two because we haven't been able to find stability at the WR coach spot. Banks I just don't think would ever make much sense as a NFL coach. Doesn't fit his biggest strengths.
  13. No dogpiling til Omaha but I’ll allow a half dogpile and celebratory cups to be made if we can finally win a game in one of these damn tournaments
  14. I didn’t realize Rutgers had extended Orphey twice the last two years and his salary was up to 500k. For a school like Rutgers that is a pretty big chunk of change for a position coach. Apparently Kiffin tried to hire him away to Ole Miss at some point.
  15. Florida On3 site reporting Will Harris is taking a job at Miami. Noting because he was brought up a bunch during our DB coaching search.
  16. OB with a few notes: * The loss of running backs coach Tashard Choice to the Detroit Lions is considered a significant blow behind the scenes. Not only was Choice viewed as an excellent coach and team leader, but he was also a key recruiter, especially in Georgia. That state was successfully navigated by Choice during recruiting, which makes replacing him difficult, though not impossible, according to my sources. * One NFL source told me that Choice wanted a larger role in game planning and putting together the offense. Additionally, he desired to work with the offensive line, an opportunity he will have in Detroit. * Texas wanted Choice to remain on staff, but Detroit was determined to hire him. How much? Detroit paid Choice’s buyout of $850,000 to hire him. * I was informed that Sarkisian is currently assembling a list of candidates. As of Thursday, it was too early to determine which coaches Sarkisian will target. * However, I have not yet heard either former Texas running backs coach Stan Drayton or Oregon running backs coach Ra’Shad Samples heavily mentioned as candidates. When the Dallas Cowboys pursued Choice a few weeks ago, neither was viewed as a frontrunner for the role. * Hopefully, for Texas fans, Sarkisian has the same success replacing Choice as he did in finding Blake Gideon’s replacement. I was told Mark Orphey interviewed in Austin on Monday and immediately emerged as Sarkisian’s top choice. Orphey aced the interview, and his ability to recruit in Houston was a huge selling point. * According to my sources, it is unclear if Orphey will coach safeties or cornerbacks at Texas. I was told Orphey can coach both positions. However, Sarkisian’s primary goal was to hire Orphey, and he will eventually determine which positions Terry Joseph and Orphey will coach after securing his commitment.
  17. I'm sure he and his lawyers are just itching to get back to Austin to work for the same people who fired him 2 years ago.
  18. Scruggs just said on 247 that 3 names he heard from a source are Carlos Locklyn (Ohio State), Chris Gilbert and Kiel McDonald (RB coach for the Chargers, was at USC and Utah before that)
  19. Did he like Drayton a bunch, or was he just making sure Bijan wasn't going anywhere during the coaching transition? I'll maintain my stance that we can do better than a guy who is only on the people's list because he coached here in the past.
  20. I think our sights are set a bit higher than a high school RB filling Choice’s spot on staff
  21. IT Inside Texas takes a quick look at some coaches who make sense to replace Tashard Choice as well as some who don’t. Makes sense Carlos Locklyn, Ohio State: There’s been some talk Locklyn was on the short list just weeks ago. If so then that’s probably still the case. He already has relationships with a number of top running backs in the country. He can also sell effectively having a platoon after the season the running backs at Ohio State just had. Khenon Hall, Baylor: IT is hearing Hall is as close to Tashard Choice 2.0 as you can get. “Everybody loves him,” one source said. He’s known as a great recruiter. Baylor had a 1000-yard rusher this season in Bryson Washington plus another back in Dawson Pendergrass that almost reached 700 yards. Plenty of experience in Texas, including at Texas Southern and SMU. He’s a South Oak Cliff grad. Kolby Smith, Arkansas: Has a good relationship with the notable Texas high school running backs this cycle. Played and coached in the NFL. Had a good platoon of runners this past season, including former Longhorn and former quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson. Much of his career, including his time as a college football player, has been spent with Bobby Petrino. Jabbar Juluke, Florida: Certainly not young but he’s Florida’s best recruiter, has the proverbial skins on the wall, and is about as good of a recruiter of Louisiana as you’ll find. Has relationships with top backs, including those in the Southeast United States. Has coached all over the country including at Louisiana Tech, LSU, Texas Tech, Louisiana, and Florida. Doesn’t make sense Ra’Shaad Samples, Oregon: Samples makes a lot of sense from the standpoint of being young, a good recruiter, and having Dallas ties, but Oregon would be unlikely to allow Texas to wallet whip him. Stan Drayton: The one-time Texas RBs coach doesn’t provide the value add you’re looking for at the position, young, energetic, volume recruiter. We’ll keep this list updated as we receive more intel.
  22. Considering the big raise Choice was about to it, I wonder if some college OC's could be in play if we are willing to pay the $750-$800k+ we were planning on paying Choice.
  23. No Samples No Drayton No Tosh Lupoi No Jerry Gray alright go
  24. Choice to the Lions, per IT.
