  1. 13 errors. Not great but doesn’t Stanford play on a dirt field? Usually see improved fielding on turf.
  2. His stats remind me a lot of Mendoza at ASU. Doesn’t walk or strikeout much. Good average with basically no power.
  3. FCB is saying Becker is staying at UVA. I think this will be our pivot option https://gostanford.com/sports/baseball/roster/player/temo-becerra I also think Gasparino will hit the portal soon.
  4. Roster check (excluding Galvan, Belyeu, Flores, Fien and Cunningham) *freshman C (2): Chamberlain, Courville INF (4): Mendoza, Borba, Livingston, Duplantier INF/OF (2): Freeman, Rodriguez OF (9): Gasparino, Winfield, Moroknek, Williams, Robbins, Peterson, Monsour*, Hill*, Pack* RHP (19): Riojas, Grubbs, Burns, Saunier, Moffett, Rerick, Flores, McCreery, Howard, Hamilton, Cozart*, Westphal*, Crossland*, Rummel*, Boles*, Walls*, Rogers*, Furgason*, Paris* LHP (9): Volantis, Harrison, Bing, Navarre, Walker, Dotson, Higgins, Mitchell*, McKernan* So 45 total with at least a catcher and SS coming from the portal, so call it 47. I’ll assume at least another few guys from the current roster leave and we lose 3-4 more draft eligible guys. That probably leaves us at around 40 heading into the fall.
  5. I think they only want to take 1-2 more arms so they will very picky. Very possible someone like Dotson could be stretched out as a starter with the stuff he has. If they get Grubbs, Harrison, Ruger and Saunier all back from the draft, this staff will be really damn good. All of sudden you are looking at a group that will go 8-10 deep with a lot of different looks (left, right, sidearm) + any freshmen who show they are ready to contribute early.
  6. 3 PM CT announcement for Vodney Cleveland tomorrow per Justin Wells
  7. Gerry Pretty sure Damari Simeon cancelled Ohio State OV this weekend. Texas vs Michigan decision coming … and the Horns had two great visits. https://247sports.com/player/damari-simeon-46150555/
  8. We aren't even a year removed from having every DT who officially visited commit elsewhere at our biggest position of need in the cycle, so I won't take for granted that there is a good chance we have 3 really good out-of-state DTs committed by the end of the day tomorrow. LB, TE and RB are the biggest question marks for me right now. LB in particular is a position we need to hit on after only taking 2 last year (1 being a developmental take) and 1 the year prior. OL, CB and WR have solidly set floors right now with who is currently committed and will likely be fine with the remaining options on the board.
  9. Gerry’s optimism with Finley is interesting considering how other sites are making it seem like an extremely close race with Notre Dame.
  10. Too much can happen between now and February. He also is going to be doing very little baseball the next 7 months and I don’t think he’ll just walk over and immediately start without a ramp up period.
  11. What is the number at edge this cycle? 2-3? Feels like Carlton will be one but you have to squint and do some wishcasting to see an obvious 2nd or 3rd guy right now, especially if you consider Griffin a LB/edge hybrid.
  12. 2B Mendoza CF Robbins LF Rodriguez (S) C- Portal (hopefully Tinney) SS- Portal (hopefully Becker). RF- Freeman (S) 3B Borba 1B- Livingston (L) DH- Moroknek/Chamberlain/etc. I’m assuming Gasparino and Winfield are being recruited over.
  13. I think this is an agent play and they are trying to make teams think Texas is more interested to drive up the price.
  14. We have prioritized Becker over Hacopian from the get-go, so that would be a pretty big change.
  15. Pete Nakos with an update on Eric Becker. One of the top available college baseball players in the transfer portal, Eric Becker’s recruitment is starting to come into focus. The Virginia shortstop entered the portal shortly after Brian O’Connor accepted the Mississippi State job. But Becker has not committed to the Bulldogs yet, and a transfer to Starkville is not a done deal, sources have told On3. Already established himself as one of the best hitters in college baseball, he hit .362 as a freshman in 2024 with eight home runs and 46 RBI, slugging .669 with a 1.137 OPS. In 2025, Becker was even better. He hit .368 on the season, adding nine homers and 52 RBI. The shortstop slugged .617 as a sophomore, with a 1.070 OPS. Becker also hit 21 doubles and has played three of the four positions on the infield in college, with the exclusion of first base. From speaking to sources, Mississippi State is squarely in the mix for Eric Becker. But Texas has also emerged as a legitimate contender. A return to Virginia is another option, as Chris Pollard‘s staff has been in contact and is making an effort to get Becker to withdraw from the portal and return to Charlottesville. Florida had expressed interest in Becker, but the Gators do not appear to be trending in the same way as Mississippi State, Texas or Virginia. To this point, O’Connor has added several Virginia transfers, including left-handed pitcher Tomas Valincius, outfielder James Nunnallee, utility player Chone James and outfielder Aidan Teel.
  16. We are talking about guys coming off major leg injuries. That is great they are running around in the summer but the tough part hasn’t even begun for either. No one is saying this RB group can’t be good and there aren’t good players in there, but if the justification for passing on a RB for an entire cycle is looking at a current room of 1 good RB and 5 dudes who have barely played football or are coming off major leg surgeries and saying we are good here, that is a gamble.
  17. Baxter- Torn ACL Wisner- Solid player but probably not a dude you want to hand the rock to 25 times a game consistently Clark- Torn Achilles Gibson- Fumbling issues in a limited sample size Stewart and Simon- True freshmen we have never seen From a numbers and classification perspective, sure, we are okay but there are a lot of unknowns and major injuries in the room and I would put the chances at zero that all 6 RB’s return in 2026. I’m assuming Stewart and Simon are probably cool with developmental years this season but do we really think 6 guys who all realistically expect to be getting meaningful carries in 2026 are sticking around to share one football at Texas? We need to take at least one RB every year.
  18. We need to take at least one RB. Let’s be real with ourselves. Being content with taking no running back in the class is like when Mack Brown was ready to take Terrell Cuney as his only OL commitment for the 2014 class before getting fired.
  19. There is no way this is the same Easton Winfield we know
  20. Someone posted it on OTF but I forgot how few commitments we had at this point a year ago: KJ Lacey Lance Jackson Elijah Barnes James Simon Coleman triplets Emaree Winston Brandon Brown (flipped to LSU beginning of July) Similar to DT last cycle, we will need to pull something out of our ass at TE and RB but overall we seem to be in a much better place at this point in the recruiting calendar this year
  21. Wasn't it Osborne who parted ways with us? Haven't followed the Latimer recruitment in a while and I see all 3 crystal balls are for....Wisconsin? That recruitment seemed to change in a hurry.
  22. Justin Wells Carthage RB KJ Edwards tells me he’s canceled his Texas OV following his trip to Texas A&M. The Aggies have prioritized Edwards for the longest and loves the loyalty. Texas is working to get that OV back. I’ll have more later.
