  1. For a receiving back he also had a pretty high number of drops. This is a really good RB class, and he is more of a specialty player right now so it's going to have to be a pretty clean fit for him to get drafted and make it. But credit for him for getting in the conversation because I am the one who famously said after the Wyoming fumble last year that he would never have another meaningful carry here. I thought it might make sense for him to portal to somewhere he can get more every-down touches but maybe he just wanted to be done with college football.
  2. I've had Hutson penciled into the 2025 lineup for a while, but I would hope he gets some serious competition. For a guy who has played as much as he has over 3 years, he really hasn't gotten better. Having him and Campbell return would be nice but I'm definitely not as excited about it as I was a few months back. While we are losing a lot with Majors and Conner, my hope is we can up the physicality on the interior to get back to more of the inside zone/play action stuff that has been Sark and Flood's bread and butter most of their time together.
  3. Of all the positions you need insurance on in case of injury, kicker feels like it is dead last. Yeah it would suck if your guy tweaks his hammy but how often does that actually happen? I would be more indifferent on carrying 2 scholarship kickers if weren't also giving full rides to two punters and long snapper. At a place like Texas, we should have a walk-on kicker or two who can trot out to make an extra point of 35-yarder in the middle of the field if we need them to. We took the kicker from Westlake last year as a walk-on who had G5 offers.
  4. Good stuff from Rod. TL;DR version: We played more 2-high safety than we had shown all year (we had shifted into a single-high preference for much of the season) The nascar package we used brought Gavin Holmes on the field and allowed us to cover the 3 receivers with corners and bump Guilbeau in to cover the TE Played a lot of inverted Tampa 2 coverage We got burned on the 4th and 2 run by Howard by alignment. Ohio State went into an unbalanced formation and we had Guilbeau on Jeremiah Smith and Mukuba was going over to double him and it left a gaping hole. Offense had their second-highest 'targets to guys in motion' rate of the season, which is typically a Sark staple in big games. We had very little success out of empty which is something Rod thought we might some success with before the game 6 plays of 20+ yards. Ohio State had 1. Pointed out that we were 120th last year in TD % in the red zone and improved to 54th this year, but overall redzone scoring is still very poor because of missed FG's and turnovers throughout the season.
  5. The SEC said they were keeping the scholarship limit at 85 for this upcoming season right? It makes very little sense for us next year to carry 2 scholarship kickers, 2 scholarship punters, and a scholarship deep snapper. I get they want Kern to redshirt and develop behind Bouwmeester, but if they are going to do that, then we probably need to carry only 1 scholarship kicker. I wouldn't be opposed to just completely starting over at the kicker position and taking someone in the spring portal window.
  6. January 15th. Same day as the NFL draft entry deadline too I believe.
  7. He had one of the most productive seasons ever for a freshman receiver at Texas and Quinn Ewers isn’t the one throwing him passes moving forward. This is a stupid thought.
  8. This isn’t a video game. Run plays are designed to go through certain gaps and the chance of recognizing a cutback on the 1 yard line with 11 bodies at the LOS moving forward would take special type of vision. I will say that we have a RB room full of pretty average ballcarriers right now. If a run is blocked for 4 yards, they will get you 4 yards. If it’s blocked for 2, you are getting 2. If it’s not block at all, they aren’t making things right for a tough earned 2 yards. I respect Tre Wisner’s toughness and maybe he beefs up some in the offseason but he just lacks the physical tools you’d typically see in a high-end SEC RB. Jaydon Blue is a scat back who you can barely trust to carry the ball and Gibson is the most physically imposing but is a freshman with ball security concerns. I think we squeezed almost everything we could out that room this year considering the injuries.
  9. Williams was not a 5-star on any service and was only a top 300 player in the country for one service. He also shouldn’t have played Friday. I appreciate the effort but he was not even close to 100% and it was obvious. It’s also funny to consider him a veteran when he started 1 season as a redshirt sophomore.
  10. He didn’t have that many rushing TD’s did he? I would say having Bijan and Roschon covered up a lot. Although that doesn’t really explain the middle of the pack performance in 2022.
  11. 13th (TDs + FGs) Our TD % was 4th in 2021, 65th in 2022, 120th last year and 54th this year.
  12. I can’t remember if it was last offseason or the one before but I think they explored adding several high school coaches to the support staff.
  13. Look, I’ve been pretty adamant that I don’t think he should give up playcalling. It’s his biggest value add and there zero guarantee handing that off makes him a better overall head coach. The thought of him being able to do more game management is also kind of ironic because head coaches get most involved in stuff like short yardage, 4th down calls, important playcalls, etc, so if you are pissed at that stuff now is that going to change? It also creates the possibility of a revolving door of playcallers because what if the guy he picks leaves for another job in 2 years? Is he going to start doing it again? Trust someone else? What happens the first time the offense struggles? With that said, I do acknowledge getting over the final hump is always the most difficult and often requires the biggest leap so I understand those that are wanting it. Maybe there is a middle ground where he can get an assistant, analyst or special assistant with an offensive playcalling background to get a different voice in the room and bring new ideas.
  14. 2014- Meyer again 2015- Saban again 2016- Dabo 2017- Saban again 2018- Dabo again 2019- Orgeron 2020- Saban again 2021- Smart 2022- Smart again 2023- Harbaugh
  15. Yeah I find it funny when people say stuff like “PK and the defense saved his ass!”. Part of the job of being a head coach is hiring good assistants and managing them. When you hire Seth Littrell or Ted Roof as your coordinator, you don’t look as good as a head coach!
  16. After he originally hired Bill O Brien for 2 weeks.
  17. When you have the opportunity to kick a FG with your backup kicker inside the 10 to make a 1 TD game a 1 TD game with 2:30 left, you just simply have to do it.
  18. Sorry if this has already been talked about but was I the only one that noticed it looked like Blackwell was still buckling his damn helmet when the ball was being snapped on the 4th and 2 QB run by Howard?
  19. It’s amazing the stuff people convince themselves of when they are upset
  20. You are on the 8 yard line. Turning a 7 point game into a 4 point game where you would still need to drive the length again and score is moronic. You aren’t guaranteed addition possessions at that point of the game. Especially against the offense we were facing.
  21. This is a weird hill to die on. A winner would have focused on scoring a touchdown from the 2 because that is what would be required to even give yourself a chance at winning. We were never kicking a FG in that situation. Ever. We were on the one yard line. Keeping a one TD game a one TD game?
  22. Nahlin Nothing with Blue would surprise me. There has been some portal speculation on and off but I haven’t heard anything recent.
  23. The Golden PI to put the ball on the 2 happened with exactly 4:00 left. The drive started at 6:58. Your goal is to score the damn touchdown, not maximize possessions. We are on the 2 yard line.
  24. Per IT: -Golden and Bond are NFL bound -Trey Moore is likely to declare but they aren’t putting it in stone yet because they think Texas might be able to NIL him like Whittington a few years ago when he was leaning going pro -Taaffe undecided but they lean towards him returning
  25. The next tackle DeAndre Moore breaks will be the first one. I appreciate some of the little stuff he does and he seems like a good culture guy but he looks like he is in quicksand sometimes.
