  1. I see Ole Miss being mentioned for a lot of these kids early. I just went and looked, and holy crap, they had 18 senior or RS senior starters this year. Going to be an interesting offseason for Kiffin.
  2. Did Bryce Anderson have a good enough year to declare? I know some people said he had an up-and-down year but I really haven't followed him that closely.
  3. There was a Texas One Fund baseball event last week and an IT poster shared some nuggets Baseball fundraiser tidbits - Michael Cantù is back as a student assistant and will coach first base. Nolan Cain will coach third. Schloss says he is not a big believer in bunting, unless you need 1 run in the 9th to win the game. He said the team will be very aggressive on the base paths, and that good teams steal at an 85% success rate. He says don’t just remember the time we got thrown out, but also remember the other 9 times we were successful. 40 msn roster this year, going to 34 next year. Get your pitch. Take pitchers deep into the count, until you get the pitch you want. Juan Soto just signed the biggest contact ever, and he swings at fewer pitches than just about everybody. They have all the contracts signed for the non- conference games, but still working on finalizing game starting times before releasing the complete schedule. We have the conf schedule - first SEC competition will be at Miss St, first home SEC series will be with LSU. Pitchers in rehab all doing well, all may have a chance to contribute - but still have to show it on the mound. When asked about starters, Will Mercer and Jared Spencer were mentioned. Spencer may be transitioned from a reliever to a starter. Max talked about pitching philosophy - throw your best pitch in the strike zone, pitch to contact if necessary. Let your defense help, and it is almost selfish (and doesn’t work) to try and strike out everybody. Avg ERA in the SEC was over 5, with starters only averaging 4.1 innings per game - offensive league. Don’t expect a lot of 1-0 ball games. “Coach fed, team led.” Lots of leaders on the team, hopefully helping the young guys to learn how to make good decisions on and off the field. Schuessler, Flores, Dre Duplantier mentioned as team leaders. Schloss repeated what he has said before - win 15 (half your games) in the SEC and you will make a Regional. Win 16 and you will probably host. Win 17 and you might be a top 8 seed. 3 SEC teams last year were under .500 in conference play and still made a Regional - and UF made the semifinals in Omaha. Baseball will probably NOT get any of the proposed revenue sharing expected next year - money will go to the revenue generating sports, football and basketball. So NIL will continue to be important for baseball. No one knows what the NIL final rules will look like, but it is expensive for ball players to live in Austin, so financial help is absolutely needed. Please donate, and designate your donation for baseball.
  4. So Clemson opened with Georgia (loss), then played 10 straight games against unranked opponents with only 1 game being against a team that won more than 7 games (Louisville, who beat them), before closing with South Carolina (who also beat them) and SMU. They've had to play a lot of hero ball with Klubnik against good defenses. 10 carries against South Carolina and 14 against SMU.
  5. And if the 4 run plays go for 11 total yards everyone will say “WHY DOES STUBBORN SARK KEEP RUNNING” Surly will make sure all basis are covered.
  6. He was pretty meh this year despite Duke having a cake schedule. Still very inaccurate. But I guess some of these teams are desperate for QB’s.
  7. Redzone TD scoring or redzone scoring in general? Bert Auburn connects on 66% of his kicks so if it’s overall scoring I am surprised we are only 97th.
  8. We couldn’t run for more than 2 yards with the RB’s, our QB can’t throw open receivers at all or go through progressions and our OL was shaky the entire game. Not exactly a playcallers paradise in the redzone. The Arch running solution probably should have been explored more in OT but at the end of regulation it wouldn’t have been smart to trot that out with the time crunch, especially after Ewers took a stupid sack on 1st and 10 at the 14 or wherever we were. It’s obviously our birthright as fans to always be bitching about playcalling after the fact once we know the outcome. Just like we always complain about the 4th downs we don’t get but don’t bring up the times we go for it and convert.
  9. I’m pretty sure we’ve scored on that play before under Sark in a similar spot on the field (maybe one of the OU games?) It isn’t the highest percentage call but Moore is open. With our running game and Ewers inability to throw anything but touch passes, basically anything in the redzone has to be schemed open. Side note in all of this is DeAndre Moore plays hard and blocks well but I’ve thought all year that he isn’t quite there in regards to being a totally reliable receiver. I’m sure the injury hasn’t helped.
  10. Interesting. Gerry said this morning on C&F that he was hearing A&M was going to be a big player for him.
  11. Akana enrolled at 19 years old, right? It didn't seem promising when he showed up to campus at about 195 pounds as an edge/LB tweener who was already old for his grade.
  12. Hutson over Cruz. And if for some reason Hutson doesn’t start I’d assume he will be leaving. Started his entire freshman season and has spent the last two seasons being a part time player. He won’t go through another season of that.
  13. These coaches aren’t stupid man. They see the film and both these guys every day. We are in way too deep to make a QB switch unless the wheels just totally come off like they did the first Georgia game so I understand why we are in the position we are in. They also don’t want to just throw a redshirt freshman to the wolves during the most important part of the season. We are going to look back a year from now and know that Arch was the better player all along. It happens in college football.
  14. Having Tre Wisner contributes to the issue. We don’t have a running game teams respect in short yardage or the red zone. It’s not specifically Tre Wisner’s fault but we are asking him to be someone he isn’t. It’s why we are often having to use gadget plays/formations and even introduce the Arch package. We were actually a really good red zone scoring TD team for about 75% of the season. It really fell off the cliff after the Florida game.
  15. Special players beat the Georgia’s of the world. Not special schemes or cool plays. You need your best players to be special and that starts with the most important position on the field. Georgia has only lost like 5 games the last 4 years and my guess is the opposing QB played a great game in almost every one of those defeats. Same thing when Bama would lose during Saban’s run. It would be because Joe Burrow put on a Superman cape or Deshaun Watson was amazing or QUINN EWERS played the best game of his career. Not being the reason the team wins or losses and just being along for the ride isn’t good enough for a third year starter at Texas. Everyone wants to try to argue whether he is or isn’t to blame for a loss. The fact that conversation even needs to be had is part of the issue.
  16. I have to think any player worth a damn is going to be thinking about leaving Arizona. They apparently almost pulled the plug on Brent Brennan after 1 year but decided he would get a year 2. Just a massive coaching downgrade compared to Fisch.
  17. Probably because we all watched the first matchup where we averaged 1.1 yards per rush attempt, and our longest RB run went for 10 yards. We weren't running our way to victory yesterday. We were going to have to be successful throwing the ball and we were for some stretches.
  18. A 3-year starting college kicker should be hitting 41 yarders in his sleep. He doesn’t get to lay that at the feet of Ewers and Sark. A kicker is going to be asked to put one through the uprights from time to time.
  19. Blame game: 1. Bert 2. Banks not knowing a fake punt is coming with the backup punter 3. The worst fumble luck of all time 4. Ewers/Sark in the redzone 5. PK not knowing what a QB draw is
  20. He is who he is at this point. A 30+ start QB shouldn’t require perfect conditions to excel. He wasn’t awful yesterday but it’s not unreasonable to expect more from your third year starter. Sark has to scheme everything up for him right now. He isn’t evaluating those around him or making the off schedule plays. Yes the OL could be better or the receivers could be better or a specific play call or two could be better but when a dude is the starting QB at Texas for 3 years he should be able to cover up stuff and right some wrongs. That isn’t asking for too much.
