  1. This might be a good game for Flores’ hard sinker following a lefty.
  2. That wasn’t even that bad of a pitch
  3. Watching OU raid the FCS ranks in the portal has been interesting. Just saw they scheduled another visit for some DL from Southwest Missouri arts and crafts college or some such. They are also after some FCS TE as well and have been linked to some WR from Illinois State. There are always exceptions (Jared Verse) but it feels like you have to be a special type of talent to make that leap in competition and be productive.
  4. Schloss mentioned after the game that the starter for Auburn today (Cade Fisher) was another guy we were in the mix for out of the portal and he took a visit here. I am really interested to see the portal traction we get this offseason. We were close to getting Zach Root too before Arkansas supposedly came in over the top and offered close to 400k. Feels like with the proof of concept and a full offseason to recruit we should be high on the list for a lot of portal arms.
  5. I heard he had a setback a few weeks ago but not sure the extent.
  6. I’d much prefer Bing or Flores sliding into the rotation than taking Grubbs out of a role he has thrived in. Speaking of Bing, my hunch is we may need him out of the bullpen this weekend with the good lefties Auburn has. Volantis being the only reliable lefty down there is tough. Mercer going down 3 outings into the season really hurt.
  7. They could push Spencer all the way back to Sunday if they wanted next week and keep Harrison and Riojas on schedule with the early series this week. My gut feeling is they are going to be extremely cautious with this especially with our current record. Even if it is super minor, it may not be the worst idea to just completely skip him next weekend.
  8. This team is so damn fun man
  9. Okay the SS is good let’s start hitting it somewhere else
  10. The way Weiner covered his mouth when describing to Schloss what Spencer said makes me sick to my stomach
  11. You can’t be the worse defender on the team while hitting .200 and expect playing time. This is definitely the worst depth we’ve had on the position player side since the year we didn’t have a SS in 2019.
  12. Blake Munroe mentioned an interesting stat on OTF this morning. Casey Borba leads the entire SEC in pitches seen per plate appearance. .265/.410/.554 with 5 homers and 19 RBI's is pretty solid for a guy who wasn't a starter the first 3 weeks of the season. Also has an OPS over 1.000 in SEC play. Now, if we can just get him to throw to first base without needing a cutoff man.
  13. Galvan is probably a borderline top 100 guy now. Improved a lot defensively, plays a premium position and hits with power. Plate discipline has also improved a lot from his early years when he would swing at anything and everything. He will already be 22 by the time the draft rolls around. I will be fascinated to see what MLB teams think of Flores. I don't think he plays SS in pro ball, and he is going to need a lot of work on his swing/approach to handle good breaking balls at the next level. He is also a very old junior (turns 22 a month after the draft). If Schloss had more than 5 seconds to put a roster together this summer, he maybe could have found a way to convince Flores to move to 3B because that is likely where he gets moved.
  14. Flores and Volantis are the best freshman arms we’ve had in a long time in terms of pure stuff.
  15. I think it’s more to do with the fact he hasn’t swung a bat in 6 months and probably isn’t ready to face college pitching.
  16. It would be funnier if it wasn’t like the 3rd time this year he has dropped a routine pop up.
  17. Still not sure how Rodriguez didn’t get to that ground ball up the middle. I still wonder if his long term home is first base starting next year.
  18. Borba might be the most underrated player in the program.
  19. Shoulder. He also had a significant shoulder injury in high school so hopefully it’s precautionary.
  20. Mendoza out of the lineup. Rodriguez at 2B.
  21. They are hosting watch parties on their campus for this game. Their Friday guy might throw 6 innings.
  22. Teddy Lehman apparently mentioned on the radio that he expects Taylor Tatum to portal
  23. Seems like a 100% chance DBU, TCU or UTSA will be our 2 based on the way things currently look. The selection committee will like the TCU angle but they may end up hosting if they finish strong so maybe that is a potential Supers matchup.
  24. I completely forgot the UTRGV game last year was started on the mound by one Jared Thomas. Dark times.
  25. Point remains, give me 4-5 really good pitchers on a staff over having 7-8 decent pitchers but no single guy or two you would consider “lockdown”. The postseason format is designed in a way that you really only need like 2 real starters and 2-3 relievers to make a run. Having a bullpen that is 6 guys deep sounds great on paper but if you are having to go 6 guys deep in your bullpen in the postseason you are probably in trouble anyway. That 2021 Mississippi State team had Bednar, Sims and a bunch of guys who are probably already working desk jobs. A&M last year was Prager, Aschenbeck and Cortez basically carrying them the whole way, especially after Sdao went down. It’s more likely we are let down by the offense at some point than not having enough arms in the bullpen, based on what we’ve seen up to this point.
