Hopefully we find a good reason to cancel PV A&M. Completely pointless to play that game. I don't even believe in the 'let's get the little-used guys some experience' theory because nothing you do against a 5-29 SWAC team with a team ERA of 9.56 is translatable to actual baseball the rest of the season or the rest of their careers.
We will lose RPI points just by stepping on the field to play the game. I'm assuming Schloss scheduled the game 6 months ago with the thought we might need an extra win down the stretch to help our resume but the season has played out much differently than any of us expected.
Lamar on the other hand will be a good test. Top 70 RPI and could win the Southland with a strong finish.
Ole Miss beats Mississippi State in extras.
Miss State is the most confusing team in the SEC to me. They have a good roster, haven't been injured a bunch like Florida and brought in some good portal pieces. It makes no sense that they are 6-12 in SEC play and may miss the postseason.
Lemonis may get fired.
Gerry mentioned something interesting on YouTube today. He said Texas is shifting to recruiting Jalen Lott as a receiver first. He sat in on WR meetings during his last visit.
They need to operate every series with the mindset of going all out to win the first two games. TBA every game 3 and push all your chips in the first 18 innings every weekend. We are already at 16 conference wins, even if we drop a series or two down the stretch, we have built up more than enough cushion from a hosting standpoint. Hell, a disaster 4-8 finish where we lose every series still gets us to 20 conference wins and a likely national seed.
The only time you will need to win 3 games in 3 days is in a regional and if you can draw a very weak 4 seed you can manage that as a 2 game series as well. Everything else (regular season, super regional, CWS) can be managed by doing everything to win the first two games.
Soreness is caused by something, whether inflammation, a tear, or whatever.
You don't just leave a game with soreness as a pitcher and return in any reasonable amount of time. Whatever is causing the soreness has to be solved, whether by extended rest or surgery.
We have a month until Hoover and 5 weeks before a regional. In the absolute best scenario (no structural damage), he probably isn't picking up a baseball for at least 2-3 weeks, then has to ramp back up to be ready to pitch in a game. That still puts a return this season very much in jeopardy.
The fact that they are getting additional testing tells me it probably will not be a 'Rest for 2-3 weeks' type of injury.
I’d do everything in my power to keep Grubbs where he is. Him and Volantis with the ability to go multiple innings is such a weapon out of the bullpen.
I don’t see any reason why Flores can’t be a good #3 starter with what he has shown so far. I was worried about control with him at the start of the year but he has thrown plenty of strikes.
Bing just doesn’t do it for me as a weekend guy. I think he is in the perfect role as a 4th starter who throws strikes but won’t miss a ton of bats.
Odds are someone will go cold at some point and it will be obvious.
Also depends on if Mendoza can get back to playing 2B soon and Rodriguez can continue to play through the hand injury.
You have a chance to win another series against a top 10 team. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.
I don’t mind using Volantis at all. If you have someone who is as lockdown as him and he is available, why would you not go ahead and just wrap this thing up tonight.
Watching OU raid the FCS ranks in the portal has been interesting. Just saw they scheduled another visit for some DL from Southwest Missouri arts and crafts college or some such. They are also after some FCS TE as well and have been linked to some WR from Illinois State.
There are always exceptions (Jared Verse) but it feels like you have to be a special type of talent to make that leap in competition and be productive.
