  1. No abuelas in my hood. I asked the guys in front of 7-11, but they don't know shit about tamales. So...maybe I need a LESS sketchier part of town.
  2. For the Dallasites here, the Dallas Downtown Farmers Market is having their "Tamales Weekend" on the 15th-16th and then again 21st-22nd. First year here, so...this South Texas boy is hoping to score something halfway passable for my New Year-ing. Unless another Dallasonian has a better recommendation...?
  3. Caught his tour in Dallas a few weeks ago. Very interesting people. Had a great time.
  4. PB & J & B Gotta keep the jelly and just add the banana. Glorious.

    No, the elite lounge.
  6. Huh? What? Fixed it for ya.

    London

Last year, we stayed for 18 nights for 820,000 points in an upgraded room. The lounge was an amazing place to hang out daily for whatever we wanted/needed at the time. Also found a Spanish joint in the back-street behind the hotel that was amazing. The whole neighborhood behind it had lots of gems, too. Bottom line: location, service, amentities, all top-notch.

The Sheraton Park Lane always treats us well.
  9. I came here because I thought there were ABIA delays. Evidently...not. Eat hearty, my friend.
  10. Imagine being in the barber chair in the window when that fucker hit. My barber had to take few days off after that. The stain is still there, by the way.
  11. So...I figured it out. You're a waiter at Senor Bean, right?

    Dallas | Pizza

New arrival Good Side Pizza Pub is a winner on the western edge of Deep Ellum. Friendly spot, just like all of J.R. Munoz' other endeavors (Will Call and Elm St. Saloon). Good pie, good bar. Will eventually develop it's own personality as time goes by, I hope. For this downtown dweller, it's definitely my new pizza spot.
  13. I seem to be the only necro-bumper here, but here goes nothin' (again). Will be back in January mid-week for a few nights. Need a place for 4 people to cocktail and socialize. I normally do Midnight Cowboy. Looking at anything downtown or south. Any other recs?
  14. He wondered why it wasn't difficult to book a table. Lots of availability.
  15. Relocated from Lufkin to downtown Dallas this year. My 86 year old father relocated from Lufkin back to Central Texas. In-laws in Jacksonville with two BILs in Houston. We have already issued notice that we will not be available for the holidays. All of them. Not traveling. No big trip or anything. Just staying home, goofing off, enjoying the freedom from drama. We need a break from too many recent years of family fuckery. We'll send nice gifts, though. That's my story. Stickin' to it.
  16. Will have to fly in for a funeral on the northside. One night, maybe two. Got Hilton points to burn. Been a while since I've done a Hilton stay in town. Is the Doubletree near the airport still good? Embassy Suites? Also considering the Homewood Suite in Stone Oak.
  17. When’s the last time you were at a strip joint?
  18. Ya mean those 20 CDs ya got on that shelf right there?
  19. Used to love The Gunter, but I'm not sure if they're completely done with their remodeling yet. Current favorite...The Westin
  20. I eat at Revolver quite often. Totally legit. Their abuelita-run Sunday Brunch is old-school and insanely good.
  21. On track this year as usual, and it always feels so good. We have no debt this year and have had nothing to spend our money on, which is kinda nice. 401k and HSA will hit perfectly with the remaining payroll checks left. Already contributed and then Backdoor Roth'd both of our IRAs. Emergency Savings is at the amount we want in an AMEX HYSA. $1,000 a month goes into my Fidelity "play account" Brokerage for Stonks. Any excess cash goes into VMSXX in our Vanguard Brokerage. When it hits a certain limit, it gets 3-Fund-Bogle'd. Damn, it feels good to be a gangster...
  22. I get that. It always chaps my ass when I actually crank out something that's sub-standard. Just so damn disappointing. And, every time, "I should know better". Fortunately, it doesn't happen often...ha! I am brining 4# of Chicken Thighs right now. They will get seasoned with my own Cajun Dust and a few pats of Butter, and will go in a baking dish to roast at 275 tonight until they hit 170 or so. Then I will hand-pull them and put them in a pot of Creole tomorrow, along with my own Tasso, some Smothered Okra, and some Gulf Scrimps. It's what we do...cheers!
  23. Brine them first next time in a Ziploc bag. 3/4c Kosher Salt, 3/4c Sugar, 4c Water... for 45 minutes.
  24. If you like to pull out early...no judgment here. I like for things to get good and...carmelized. Much more satisfaction all-around than pulling out early.
