  1. Bobby Burton naturally forgot to ask Mack that if he loved UT so much then why did he tell players to go elsewhere in December 2013.
  2. Please, oh please 8 lb. 6 oz baby Jesus ...keep Mack away from the UT program
  3. I don't envision this part happening as long as Chris Del Conte is in charge. But if Del Conte ever leaves and UT gets another Deloss Dodds type AD the watch out.
  4. I agree . This could be a terrible hire for UNC. They were not wrong in getting rid of Mack though.
  5. The question was asked "why did Fred Akers brought in to replace Darrell Royal?" The main reason was because of his earlier ties to Texas football. He was considered to be one of Royal's better recruiters. Matter of fact. Coach Akers recruited a lot of the 1967 UT class that is still considered to be one of the best in the school's history. (The myth that Royal was just recruiting players to keep them from competing against him started with this class).Coach Akers was considered to be an up and coming coach that would fit the new image of UT. He also brought in a new updated concept of defense to the equation. He also hailed from a school that absolutely hates Texas(Arkansas). While he was friends and former teammate of Barry Switzer, Coach Akers understood the meaning of the OU game. He would never invite Barry Switzer to speak with any Teas team like Mack Brown did. one time. When Mack did that, it was like him spitting on Coach Royal's face. He knew how Coach Royal felt about Switzer.
  6. Hailing from North Dallas, I agree that SMU is not really a religious school, It's more a drunken rich frat boy school that used to have some really obnoxious fans especially during the Mustang Mania days, IMHO, they live in a bubble over in the Park Cities. It was really unbearable during the Mustang Mania days when they were obviously cheating and the local press did not seem to care. With that said, I have to give the Mustangs their due tonight. They fought hard all night against a very bad start. Yes, they should be a playoff team.
  7. Very important response from SMU, Question is...can they stop Clemson's offense?
  8. 14-0 Clemson,,what? This has all the makings of a blowout right now
  9. Just watching this College Gameday always reminds me of the old saying: Aggies are God's way of telling us that he all wants us to laugh and be happy!
  10. Mack Brown is great in restoring programs just don't ask him to win championships. He doesn't know how. Nor is he willing to make the changes necessary to win them. It was flat out depressing that Mack appeared be satisfied in having OU take over the Big XII.
  11. I agree that Mack left an odd legacy here. He did restore the UT program back to prominence. on the other hand, there were those embarrassing losses to OU. Real seal clubbings i you ask me. He may have won a lot of games but the lack of conference titles will always be a stain on his record. IMHO, comparing Mack to DKR is rediculous. Coach Royal won 11 SWC titles as well as 3 MNSs. He also projected confidence and absolutely hated losing. You just know any problems with Royal coached teams were going to get fixed. I never got that vibe with Mack Brown/
  12. Had Mack decided to move on after the 2010 BCS National Championship Game, he would have been hailed as the coach who saved the UT football program from mediocrity. He returned UT back to its rightful prominence in college football.. His mission was accomplished that night in Pasadena. I am sure that almost everyone on this board would have wanted a statue of him outside DKR. However, Mack made the mistake of hanging on and the program fell into disarray. His narcissistic behavior behavior would not allow him to do the right thing the program. I will always be grateful to Mack for restoring the UT progra(that was the easy part) but cannot totally forgive him for the way he left.
  13. BTW, Mack once said that beating OU was like beating your best friend. Greg Davis agreed. That sent me into a rage. He also called UT fans a bunch of wife beating alcoholics after the 2002 OU game. This occurred on the 1300 The Zone Show with Craig Way. He was never forced to apologize for it.
  14. Barry Switzer had a winning record against Texas as did Bud Wilkinson and Bob Stoops. However, Coach Royal was 12-7-1 vs OU. Coach Akers was 5-4-1. Coach McWilliams was 3-2 and Mackovic was 3-2-1. Mack was 7-9 vs OU with 4 very bad losses/
  15. Until Mack, it was fifty years when the last UT coach had a losing record against OU. He also has 3 of the top 5 losses to OU as well. Those seal clubbings were hard to take.
  16. Mizzou scores on a scoop and score on a fumble by Jackson Arnold. Tigers go up 30-23 with only 30 seconds left. Where's the Sooner Magic?
  17. Scott Drew is known as a dirty recruiter. That is why he is hated by many basketball coaches(both HS and college). My brother-in-law who was a HS basketball coach for almost 4 decades absolutely hates Scott Drew. IMHO, Scott Drew is just following in the Baylor tradition of dirty recruiting.
  18. IMHO, Tom Herman's Waterloo would have been in 2021 with a depleted roster mainly due to poor line recruiting. Kudos to Chris Del Conte for being out in front of the situatio. As a side note, could you just imagine how back the program would have been if he was retained for the 1998 season? Or how bad it would have been if Mack stayed for the 2014 season?
  19. Me too I want aggy to lose every game. Losing somehow makes them better people.
  20. I'm still checking out UNC message boards. Some Tarheel fans think that Mack will do the right thing and leave on his own volition for the good to the program. It's just crazy they still think that.
  21. IMHO, we need to frustrated OU early and often especially their Freshman QB. Let them know that they're not playing Kansas anymore, The team needs to be patent and avoid early mistakes. As Coach Akers once said "take away their heart and kill their will to win." Prediction: UT 35 OU 13 Unlike Mack Brown., I do not think that Coach Sark is worried about being taken off Barry Switzer's Christmas card list s
  22. I was listening to this game on the radio in Simkins dorm. Needless to say that the whole place erupted after this play. One of my friends actually went to that game. When he and some of his colleagues celebrated amongst themselves, some female Arkansas fan just went up to him and spat in his face. To any Longhorn fan going up there, always be careful Arkansas fans are not normal.
  23. Mack wants to justify his method of coaching and will hang on as long as possible to prove it. Once he passes Nick Saban in wins, he will step down then ask Carolina to put his name on their stadium. (BTW, Mack would have done the same thing at Texas had he passed Coach Royal in wins) Just checked out some UNC boacds and the piticforks are out for Mack.
  24. Even though I criticize Mack for many things, scheduling was not one of them. He understood the college football political pond that UT was swimming in and scheduled accordingly, There are too many lazy overpaid sportswriters in this State waiting for a reason to rank down UT. Same with college football coaches. If you think that playing a hard schedule will win their respect. Think again.
  25. I knew many of the UT players during that time, I wouldn't exactly describe such players such as Gene Chilton, John Stuart, Pau Jetton, Bryan Chester, Ty Allert and Britt Hager as soft.. Air Force did not even have 200 yards worth of offense in that game. Akers coached teams were always on the physical side, Noting less. The soft label started to come during the John Mackovic era Mackovic teams were always soft.
