  1. Miami FL was about to do away with their football program before Schnellenberger came along. So was Louisville. OU fans make me chuckle when they say he wasn't a good coach. Then again, he did sucker Barry Switzer into scheduling Miami for both 1985 and 1986. We all know how that turned out.
  2. I's somewhat stunned that Herman got fired considering what 2020 has been like. Then again, you cannot allow politics to enter a locker room and maintain support of the entire team. Don't know about Sarkisian. I hope I'm wrong but this hire has John Mackovic written all over it.
  3. RIP Coach Like many Longhorn fans, I was not a fan of Eddie Sutton. I did mellow on him quite a lot when he came out for the 1997 UT- OSU game when he gave the UT crowd the Hook 'Em Horns, Eddie Sutton always defended former UT coach Abe Lemons even though they did have some issues with each other. Below is a link to one of their many battles against each other/ :{url=
  4. Agreed that both the 2008 and 2009 teams deserved better. One got screwed over because of college football politics and the other was done in by poor depth development at QB.
  5. Being a UT fan for over 50 years, I will say that Mack did some really positive things here despite the fact he overstayed his welcome/ 1) He totally flipped the recruiting on aggy eventually getting RC Slocum fired and getting Texas back to its rightful spot as the prominent program in the State. I remember in the mid 1980, a prominent sportswriter for the DMN(later at the FWST) wrote that aggyy will forever be the prominent program in Texas at that point and it's just wishful thinking for UT fans to ever think we ever get it back/ Mack turned that little prophecy wrong and that same sportswriter started calling him "Macky Mack" as a result. 2)He proved that Texas can be a constant 10 game winning a year program again. That all our wins and championships were not just a result of carpet bombing on recruiting. UT was accused of recruiting players just to keep them from playing against us. BTW, it's not true at all. The common thought among sportswriters was that scholarship limits had exposed our football program as being a fraud on the national scene Mack proved that theory totally wrong. 3) He totally embraced and respected the UT tradition unlike the previous coach before him. He wasn't aiming to just be good once out every five years like Mackovic was. Mack wanted to put the program in a place where it was nationally relevant every year. True,. he eventually got lazy, did not make the necessary changes on the offensive side of the ball but he did do some good things while here. This UT fan is appreciative of it.
  6. Sorry about the mistake on LSU's record that year, I knew they went into the 1971 Orange Bowl with 2 losses(one of them being a loss to a 2 win aggy team). All I can say is that the Coaches Poll(the ones who actually know the game of football) gave us the MNC in 1970 while the jock sniffing AP Poll gave it to Nebraska.
  7. The 1970 Texas team would have beaten 1970 Nebraska by at least 2 TDs. People forget that Nebraska struggled mightily with a 7-2-1 LSU team in the 1971 Orange Bowl.
  8. This cannot be happening to a school that considers itself the "Baptist Notre Dame"
  9. Baylor choking on the National Stage,...what a surprise
  10. Question for trolling OU fans: Do you really want to play LSU?
  11. Not addressing anyone in particular though I do sometimes get the vibe that some UT people wanted Mack to continue until he decided to retire.
  12. It appears that after USF got whacked yesterday that Charlie really isn't a good HC after all and UT made the right decision to let him go. I do wish him well though..For all his faults, Charlie Strong never told fans to just live with it(unlike some former UT Coach did on Sept 12,1997). For those who wanted Mack to continue after the 2013 Season, I really don't know what to say to you. His program imploded on the night of January 8,2010 and he refused to recognize it. It was time for him to go.
  13. Actually it was Bill Bates not Spike Owen and yes, he was out, However, lLamar's pitcher David Poss was getting awfully tired at that point. It wouldn't have mattered.
  14. Mack going back to UNC reminds me of the old coaching adage: Never go back to a place where you were once successful. This has Johnny Majors(Pitt) -John Robinson(USC) written all over it With that said, Mack getting Tim Brewster out of aggyland helps us tremendously.
  15. Just give them a mason jar and they'll be fine
  16. Just think that there was a time where UT's offense used to be scared going against a Mike Stoops' coached defense..not anymore
  17. BTW, Texas needs to run an offense (and defense) that best helps a player get to the next level but helps a team win championships.
  18. IMHO. Teas football will be great again once it takes to heart again the old DKR saying "Trends are bunk, only angry people win football games!!?"
  19. Penn State only finished 2 points behind us in the final BCS poll before the bowl season and the CCG. This poll occurred right after our lackluster performance that years against aggy, a team with a losing record playing without their starting QB. Had Penn State not lost to Michigan that year, they would have likely jumped us. Big 10 was considered to be a stronger conference that year.
  20. I have no problem with the 2005 Texas football team being on top. However, if Michigan QB Chad Henne does not throw that last second TD pass vs Penn State then the Niittany Lions go to the BCS Championship game that year against USC, It would have not matter one bit that we defeated Ohio State on their home field that year.
  21. Happy Birthday Wishbone!! Here are some highlights from the late 60s. BTW, I became a Longhorn fan during that period. Not that I had a choice, I was born into a family of Orangebloods. 1968 Texas Football Highlights 1969 Texas Football Highlights This offense was literally unstoppable when it first came out once the kinks were worked out. It literally demoralized opponent by just running over them and trouncing them.
  22. I completely agree with Texas Pete Let me also add that there is absolutely no upside to playing aggy again/ Nothing but a win-win for them and the SEC if this rivalry revives again annually. It benefits aggy(and the SEC) whether they win or lose. For decades now, we've always told aggy that OU is our big rival and that it was unique one. Now some of you want to put aggy on the same plane as OU and play them every year with the hopes of shutting them up. C'mon folks, we all know that aggy never shuts up. They're insufferable when they win and even worse whey they lose. Texas vs A&M = Michigan vs Michigan State. BTW, Ohio State gets away with just one rival. Why can't we?
  23. BTW, I always thought of our rivalry with aggy drawing comparisons to Michigan-Michigan State. If the Spartans went to another conference. Michigan would drop them in a heartbeat, The only people who wants this rivalry back are aggy,. UT people who have aggy relatives and Longhorn haters out there who are pissed that we won the last game.
  24. My question is: Where are the sportswriters out there trying to curb aggy expectations? I haven't seen anything yet. Has anyone else? If this was UT. there would be all sorts of articles written telling Longhorn fans to curb their enthusiasm.
  25. I followed college football for almost 50 years so I have several favorite blowouts. If I have to pick only one, it would be SMU beating Cougar High 41-16 in 1992. Greatest revenge game ever!! One of the best side stories was that the SMU team gave the game ball to Jerry Glanville who I believes ran up the score on aggy Pardee in 1990. SMI Turns It Around On Houston
