  1. Update...Just got back. Weather was shit the whole time. Driskill was a great location and EVERY afternoon the bar was bumpin. Like most old hotels there were issues but not really a big deal. Thursday we arrived late and decided to walk (rather than uber) to Waterloo for free Colter Wall show. Didn't make the show but did get to talk to him. Went to the bar next door for drinks and then headed to Stubbs for dinner before the Ward Davis show. I really can't rate the BBQ at Stubbs because the collard greens were off the chain good. Stubbs indoor was a great happening venue. Ward Davis was strong as new rope. Next day, the ladies went to the Spa at the JW and the guys went to the LBJ library. One thing I have learned from going to presidential libraries is the job as President must sux sweaty balls most of the time. Headed back to the hotel for happy hour and the to Ranch 616. Ranch 616 was super funky and a great find. No way you would just stumble on that place. Saturday, we did a city tour which gave us a little more idea about how the different areas of the City. We just ate at the hotel bar before the concert. We had seats on the left of stage as you were facing the stage. They were sort of from the back as well but they were great. The sound was really good and you could see all the "goings on". I am more of singer/songwriter type guy but every now and then you need to see a Rock and Roll extravaganza and FM filled that bill. Mike Campbell was awesome fill it and Neil Finn did a great job on the vocals. While the ladies couldn't hit the high notes anymore, they sounded fantastic. Had brunch at the hotel on Sunday and flew out Sunday afternoon. Will go back for sure
  2. Colter Wall at Waterloo tomorrow afternoon. Ward Davis at Stubbs tomorrow night. Fleetwood Mac at the Erwin Center Saturday night. Two weeks ago, John Fullbright at a house concert. Next? Todd Snider at the Ryman on 4/20?
  3. Have fun, but stay clear of the needle, call home on your sister's birthday Don't tell them you're bigger than Jesus, don't give it away
  4. Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away Well it took me yearsTo get those souvenirsAnd I don't know how they slipped away from me But only bones lie here entombedMy spirit flies as high as Old Glory wavesRemember all of us and the sacrifice we madeOn the last Monday in May
  5. It ain't the first line but it is my favorite The cuckoo clock has died of shock and the windows feel no pain/pane The air was as still as the throttle on a funeral train.
  6. Well when you're sitting there in your silk upholstered chair Talkin' to some rich folk that you know
  7. There's a man who walks beside me he is who I used to be And I wonder if she sees him and confuses him with me
  8. Well I woke up Sunday morning With no way to hold my head, that didn't hurt Cowboy, cowboy Well, I'm packin up my game and I'ma head out west There she goes shaking that ass on the floor Bumpin' and grindin' that pole I thought love was only true in fairy tales Meant for someone else but not for me. I hear Mariachi static on my radio And the tubes they glow in the dark Roland was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun With a Thompson gun for hire, fighting to be done I want a big red nose I want some floppy shoes I want a squirtin' flower squirt it on you Them boys from Oklahoma roll their joints all wrong Oh says Red Molly to James "That's a fine motorbike. A girl could feel special on any such like" Well it sure didn't take too long I woke up one mornin', she was gone
  9. Seeing a Tweet from Sunny Sweeney that she was touring with Bob Seger, I shuffled through I music and found that Live Bullet recording and started listening to it. First that will be a super interesting pairing between Gettin Sweenered and Bob. I think you folks in Texas will be the only ones with that part of tour available. Live Bullet has some of best horns, percussion mix on it of anything I have listened to in a long time. Going to have to go back and check out Average White Band now. (yes imma Old). Of course all the first run of tickets for the concerts have sold out and you have to pay a big price for a resell ticket. Who you got on your rediscovered artist?
  10. I stumbled upon a super hi end audiophile show one time. The only thing I noticed other than the price tags was that most of folks in there were super olds and there was no way they could tell the difference between what they were buying and a Walmarts boom box
  11. 14. Headed to Austin Thursday. Colter Wall is playing at Waterloo Records. What is the deal about shows there? Any tips. Our plane lands at three and the show is at 5. We are staying at the Driskill. Will we have time to get the hotel and get to show and see anything? TIA
  15. What did you do wrong to deserve this? At least universal sells booze. I assume the Harry Potter deals are the same, but as a whole, Florida should be newer nicer and more options to do other theme park type stuff. If you go to Florida, stay in one of the on property hotels. There are a lot of Perks for staying there. Much more than Disney.
  16. Red Wine, favorite Cabernet from Rutherford...love the dust Bombay Gin Martini as dirty as preacher's daughter Craft beer used to be bourbon in most any shape but that has fallen of the radar and been replaced with various vodka drinks
  17. Well right now is the Shot Show (hunting/guns) and AVN(pron). I wonder if the Shot folks said, "Hey the pron convention is this week, let's schedule our show around that" or vice versa?
  18. Seems like there are a million festivals now. I saw one recently where the bands slots were on for 30 minutes. Shit you can't get your stuff tuned up and warmed up in that time. There is a local festival here called 30ASingerSongwriter. Usually they have two big large venue shows and the a bunch of smaller shows at bunch of different venues on the beach. You have to buy a full weekend pass ($325+-) to get into the small shows. the small shows are where it's at but between the traffic and parking (it can be 5-10 miles between the venues) you are lucky to catch two shows a night. I was checking on band this weekend to see where they were playing and it was like festival to festival...The red dirt folks do Steamboat which looks really cool and Mile Zero in Key west. I guess it is not too hard to get between venues but I guess you have to buy the whole festival deal to see the smaller shows there as well. I think Imma leaning toward the hate em section.
  19. Got the all clad. No better than the less expensive shit. Find a deal a bed bath o. Calphalon and replace about one a year
  20. OK..most all plans are made. Flying in on SW and arrive at 3:00 on 2/7/19. Staying at the Driskill Going to try to make the free Colter Wall show @Waterloo records. Have tickets to see Ward Davis at Stubbs that night. Friday we have spa treatments in the late morning for the womens. Friday night going 616 for dinner. Wanted to go to Clark's but they couldn't take are reservation for 8 people. Saturday night going to fleetwood mac. Got to fill the time on Friday before dinner and Saturday before the FM show. (frankly I could give a shit about seeing FM but the wife wants to see and therefore I get to cost to Austin)
  21. Buzzed?
  22. I was holding out. I got two new (to me) guitars. The L-1 is harder to play, it has some super heavy strings on it...
